Chapter Text

“Part-time Security Guard Wanted! Night shift position, looking for someone to bring fantasy and fun to life. Fazbear entertainment. To apply call…”

You skeptically eyed the severely underpaid position on the newspaper ad. Who uses newspaper ads these days for advertisement anyway? Your bank account protested at you setting the newspaper back down on the display case in the gas station. Pulling your phone out, you snapped a photo of the number just in case you change your mind. Grabbing your favorite to-go drink, you smile at the familiar register worker.
“How’s it going, y/n?” Josh asked, scanning your item.
“Same stuff, different day,” you replied, handing over the last five-dollar bill in your wallet.
“I saw you eyed up the newspaper ads, you know if you ever needed a job I could talk my manager into hooking you up here.”
You looked down at the change in your hand, palming the nickels and quarters. “You’re too nice, Josh, but I think I found a place already.”
“Ah, well, offer still stands if you change your mind. Free fountain drinks all shift too. See you later.” Josh winked before you quickly got out of line and made your way to the bus stop.
The whole bus ride you thought about how much you wanted to be brave enough to ask him on a date. You’ve known Josh for what felt like your whole life and you’ve always known the feelings he’s had for you. But sometimes life just doesn’t shake out that way, and, even though you’re not as close as you used to be, you make it a point to always stop by on your way home when he’s working. What would he think if he found out you just lost your job and are struggling between college and affording your apartment? You drag your hand down your face and sigh.
Later that evening you look at the picture of the paper you took and type the number into your phone. You hover your thumb above the call button. There’s a lot of things that go through your mind. What if you’re not cut out for it? What if they turn you down? What if- no, no more theoreticals. You push the send button and the phone starts to ring.
“Hello? Hello, hello! You’ve reached Fazbear entertainment! How can I help you today?”

The uniform came in the mail a few weeks later with what looked like an oversized children's watch, security badge, and flashlight. Seems typical enough. You’d toured the Pizzaplex briefly after your interview. The place is larger than you’d anticipated, but you’d only be cleaning and monitoring the daycare section. The other nightguard would be in charge of the rest of the facility. Apparently, the daycare always needed more TLC. You weren’t complaining as it seemed like an easy enough gig. You clean up from the day shift then sit in the office and work on your college work until 6 am when your shift ends.
The first few shifts went by smoothly. There wasn’t a lot of cleaning to do in the daycare aside from picking up art supplies and scrubbing glitter glue. You never saw the other nightguard except for at the interview when she introduced herself.
After a particularly long night, your boredom got the better of you and you decided to explore around the daycare. The fluorescent lights are always on, beaming down on the colorful climbing sets. Not long after inspecting the ball pit, you get the feeling that someone is watching you. You turn your head back and forth before looking up to a small platform stage well above you. A pair of eyes peer at you over the edge.
“Uhm… hello?” you manage to say, throat going hoarse.
The eyes continued to stare for a while longer before retreating back into the platform. A shudder goes down your spine. You were told that there was a daycare attendant animatronic named Sundrop/Moondrop but that they were inactive overnight due to needing to recharge. Posters were hung throughout the pizzaplex advertising their candies, and children seemed to enjoy the coloring pages of them as you were always printing extras out for the next day.
You had a hard time shrugging off the encounter as you quickly made your way back to the daycare office. You knock over a pile of toy blocks in your rush. Cursing under your breath you messily stack them again before shutting yourself into the office. Before you can breathe a sigh of relief, you look out the window and watch Sundrop drop down in front of the blocks and reorganize them. You take several steps back as they turn to you, smiling wider. They straighten themselves before walking over to the window and tapping on the glass.
