Threats and vows, a study on love

Summary:

Based on Trashking's amazing story "Cold Feet" where Louis storms out of an arranged marriage.

Louis finally gets married to the love of his life:

“Thank you for loving me, I promise to make sure it’s worth it” Louis finishes because he was telling the truth when he said he wanted to get married as soon as possible.

“It’s always been worth it,” Legosi whispers to him.

Work Text:

When people look at Legosi and Louis they see the brains of a genius and charismatic herbivore and the strength of a 6'2" broad wolf with komodo dragon blood. But they miss half of it. Legosi might look like no brains and all muscles, but he is a smart and kind creature. And Louis does have the frame of an herbivore and an incredibly calculating mind, but he knows how to fight and handle all sorts of guns. They are more similar than people give them credit for, and once you get to know them you understand it was inevitable for them to end up together.

Louis is very much used to being the center of attention. Doing theatre and being the Shishigumi’s boss had benefited his public speaking and performance skills. Still, he was not completely prepared for a wedding, his wedding, and even though he is surrounded by people he loves he feels impatient and half-expecting something to go wrong.

He expects Legosi, his soon-to-be husband, to be the one freaking out. But he seems even calmer than usual, his tail moving slowly as he speaks to Gosha.

Louis sees Yafya walking toward him with a glint of determination in his eyes and tries to prepare for the inevitable threats as the former Beastar sits down next to him.

“I’ll do us both a favor and go straight to the point,” he says and Louis thanks him mentally. “I could sit here and talk to you for hours about all the things I could do to destroy you if you ever hurt this kid,” he proceeds with an expression that doesn’t betray his feelings.

Louis raises an eyebrow prompting Yafya to finish what he’s doing.

“And we both know what I’m capable of,” he continues, letting the implications of being a former Beastar hang over Louis -who despite keeping a straight face has his thoughts going a mile a minute- “But I am very much aware that even if you were to completely annihilate Legosi’s heart, he’d still wish you no harm. Because he is better than both of us,” he continues with a half-smile that seems to be reminiscing.

Yafya allows Louis to sit in those words.

“And believe me, I know how it is to be absolutely in love with someone good who makes you feel that maybe you’re not so terrible because they love you and they think the world of you.” And Louis gets it, he’s met Gosha multiple times, and every time he finds the same kindness and acceptance and love in the reptile eyes he shares with Legosi. “I just hope you’ll be gentle if it ever comes to breaking his heart, that’s my one request.” Yafya asserts, letting his pride aside, somewhat of a miracle.

Louis knows, and hopes, he would never do something like that. However, he is aware of his shortcomings and he knows that even if he gives it his all he might still fail Legosi.

“I can do that”, he replies with a knot in his chest praying to Rex to be merciful and allow him to keep Legosi even if he were to lose everything.

He’d rather not say it out loud, but any life with Legosi is a life worth giving a try.

Once they are both on the altar Legosi pulls out something that looks like a 10-page essay from his suit and clears his throat.

“I didn’t know how to start this, so I’ll just go for it I guess,” he chuckles.

Louis can’t help the smile spreading on his face. Legosi has always been charming in the way you’d never expect a stupidly kind and gigantic apex predator to be.

“Louis, you are everything I could only hope and dream to have,” Legosi declares while looking at him like he holds the answers to all of his questions and as if he were the only thing in his world, and Louis feels so loved. “Not even in my wildest fantasies did I think I would be here marrying you, the love of my life, the most beautiful creature I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness,” the wolf continues and Louis swears he can smell honey embedded in his fiance’s words.

If Louis were to be listening to someone else saying these words he’d think how corny it sounds in a heartbeat. But having Legosi looking at him and reciting his vows makes him feel like everything he’s endured until now has been worth it, so worth it to have this man declare his undying love to him in front of so many of his loved ones.

Louis can’t help but glow and gloat, he wants everyone to see this. He has someone who would give everything for him and someone he’d do anything for. He feels, no, he knows he is the luckiest creature to ever exist.

“I promise to be the best I can for you, I’ll give you everything I have and everything I am,” the wolf promises with a determination he’s always loved seeing in those calm eyes.

Louis makes the mental note to ask Legosi for the papers so he can keep them and read them whenever he needs a reason to go on. And he is thankful to have someone recording the whole thing because he knows this moment, these honey-covered words from his lover are something he will revisit to a point some would consider obsessive.

“I will strive every day to give you whatever you need and whatever you want, even if it means I’ll end up brawling with cats,” he smiles while the Shishigumi try to cover the tears in their eyes.

Legosi somehow manages to keep everyone engaged as he goes on about how much he treasures the red deer in front of him. Louis had never been as happy as he was during the wolf’s 25 min vows. His friends would later joke about how the vows didn’t seem to end but Louis would never complain about it.

Louis clears his throat. “I don’t have 20 pages worth of vows, all I have is the need to marry you as soon as possible” he states with all the sincerity in the world and he hears some laughter.

“Legosi, you make me feel like the most fortunate creature in this world, and every day I’m thankful I get to love you and be in your presence” he continues while looking up.

He can already see the glassiness in his lover’s eyes and knows that his eyes have been wet for a while.

“I promise to be the best I can, if only for you” he swears. “I have loved you for so long that I can’t recall a time in which you didn’t fill me up with all these embarrassing feelings” he continues with a smirk. “And I love you so unconditionally that I couldn’t care less that one hundred people are watching me declare all this to you.”

And it is the truth, Louis is willing to do anything for Legosi. Having some people witness his deepest and strongest feelings seems like the smallest sacrifice and he will not hesitate to do this.

“I have never loved anyone as I love you,” he tells him once more. “I didn’t even think it was possible for me to feel like this. I thought I was doomed to be alone, but then you came into my life and refused to leave… And I realized that maybe life could be so much fun and waking up in the mornings would no longer feel like a chore. Because I might have plenty of obligations, but loving you feels like a reward, and I promise to make sure I’ll earn it every second you’ll have me” he tells him and he knows he’s never meant anything as much as these words.

Legosi is already sniffling and he can hear some in the crowd doing the same.

“Thank you for loving me, I promise to make sure it’s worth it” Louis finishes because he was telling the truth when he said he wanted to get married as soon as possible.

“It’s always been worth it,” Legosi whispers to him.

Yafya smiles and asks “Louis, do you take this wolf to be your husband?”

He’s barely done asking this when Louis is replying.“Yes, I do,” looking straight into Legosi’s eyes.

“Legosi, do you take this deer to be your wedded husband?” Ibuki looks at the wolf.

“Yes, please,” he says with a smile that threatens to show his fangs.

“You might kiss the husband,” he says and they proceed to kiss as if they were starved. There is no hint of shame in any of their actions. They are finally surrounded by unconditional love and acceptance.

Kissing Legosi after being declared as his husband has Louis feeling so invincible that he knows no path he could have followed would have led him to feel this way.

“How were you so calm?” Louis can’t help but ask sitting in the hotel room “You always looked so uncomfortable being the center of attention...” he trails off.

“Why wouldn’t I be? I got to marry the love of my life surrounded by our family,” Legosi tells him with a smile. “It felt like the peak of my life, I’ve never been more at peace… If I had died right after marrying you, I’d have died happy” he swears and Louis knows he’s being completely honest.

Louis can’t help the blush creeping on his face. Leave it to his fiance, no, husband , to make him blush after all these years.

“Try not to die soon though,” Louis jokes, trying to engrave Legosi’s words in his brain so he can savor them for the rest of his life.

“Anything for you, dear husband” Legosi promises, looking at him softly and leaning down to kiss him for the thousandth time that day.

Louis would always marvel at how no matter how much they kissed, it felt just as precious every time.

Bonus scene:

“Was he annoying you?” Gosha asks. “I promise he won’t try to hurt you, I asked him as much,” he smiles and Louis recognizes the love in his almost unreadable face.

Now Louis has one less concern in his life, not that Legosi would ever let anything happen to him anyway.

“No, he simply asked me to be kind to your grandson, this is the only favor he’s ever asked of me,” Louis confides. “And I can do that,” he laughs.

“I know,” Gosha replies kindly. “I am very grateful that you’re in Legosi’s life,” he says as he pats so softly between Louis' shoulders, with the same perfect control over his strength that Legosi has.

Louis relishes the feeling of having a family .

Notes:

This is my first work for the Beastars fandom, I do apologize if it seems a bit ooc. I do feel like Louis is so in love he wouldn’t give a flying fuck about all these people knowing how stupid in love he is. And I think Yafya being with Gosha would open him up a bit and show his kind side.

Thanks for reading!
