Chapter Text
Kaeya Alberich sailed across the clear blue water toward the mainland of Teyvat. Underneath the midnight sky, he held three neatly written wedding invitations. The lulling waves were calming, and Kaeya began to hum a favourite tune to go along with it. He docked the small boat and approached the postbox where his letters would be taken and sent off in the morning. Upon finding the small box Kaeya took a few deep breaths to calm himself down. The postbox sat glittering in the moonlight, drawing Kaeya in closer. This was for his mother.
He finished humming the song, “Even if you fail..”
He held the envelopes out.
“Lisa Minci.”
The first letter was put in the box.
“Beidou Xiong.”
The second letter.
“Eula Lawrence.”
The postbox snapped shut. No going back now.

Kaeya ran down to the beach just in time to see the boat dock in. He grinned, ecstatic to see his friends in person for the first time in two years. Venti was the first one to see him, “Eep!” he squealed, barrelling towards Kaeya at a troubling speed. Luckily Kaeya caught him before he could go flying off the dock. Diluc took his time walking over, grumbling about Venti and his lack of care for his belongings, but he rightfully took his place in the group hug.
“Ah, I missed you guys so much,” Kaeya muttered into their hair.
“We missed you too!” Venti shouted into Kaeya’s middle.
“Don’t speak for me.”
“But Diluc, weren’t you the one crying about how we’re all growing up-- Ow! Don’t hit me!”
Kaeya laughed, shaking his head in amusement. He truly had missed them. His eyes opened wide in realisation, “Wait, guys--”
“We know,” Diluc grumbled - again - before getting into position. Venti had a wide grin on his face.
“Weee’re Diluc, Kaeya, Venti, we’re the greatest, bestest mates!”
“I’m tough,” Diluc said, rolling his eyes in annoyance and unwillingly flexing his arm.
“I’m tall!” Kaeya said, puffing his chest out and smirking with pride.
“I’m tiny!” Venti finished, jumping up in the air.
“And we’re gonna rock this place! Yeah!” They finished together, bursting into laughter almost immediately after.
After their laughter had died down, they began to walk towards the hill up to the hotel before Venti grabbed Kaeya’s hand greedily, “Kaeya, it's beautiful ! I want one!”
Diluc looked over, eyebrows raised, “He did well, didn't he?” Kaeya beamed, Diluc had always been more protective over Kaeya and had continuously stated his dislike of Kaeya’s fiance when they first got together.
“I’m getting married tomorrow!” Kaeya giggled, overcome with giddiness, “I’m so glad you’re here... because I have a secret and I can’t tell anyone else…”
Diluc and Venti exchanged a glance of confusion, thinking the same thing. Venti reached his hand towards Kaeya’s belly. “Kaeya…”
Kaeya blinked before realising what he was insinuating “What? Oh, Oh! No! What! How-- You know what, never mind.” he rolled his eyes, “It’s- Well, I’ve invited my other mum to my wedding.”
Venti gasped loudly, “You’re joking ! You found her?”
“No no no! Not exactly. Well, you know what mum would say when I asked. It was a Summer romance, and she’d been long gone before my mum realised she was expecting, right?”
Diluc nodded, having heard the conversation before.
“Well, I kind of accepted that was all I would ever know. Until..” Kaeya reached into the bag he had been carrying, “I was ransacking some old trucks, and I found this.”
He pulled out an old book covered in sparkles and jewels, “It’s the diary she kept the year she was pregnant with me!”
“Oh, Kaeya!” Venti gasped again, shocked but so, so intrigued.
“July 17th,” he read, “What a night!”
“I don’t know if I want to hear this,” Diluc complained.
“I do!” Venti replied eagerly, scooting behind where Kaeya had sat so he could see the pages.
“Lisa rowed me over to the little island. That's here - that’s Kalokairi - We danced on the beach, and we kissed on the beach, and... dot dot dot!”
“What?”
“Dot dot dot!” Kaeya said, “That's what they did in the olden days!”
“Oooh!”
“Ew.” Diluc whispered, making a disgusted face at the image.
Venti leaned closer to the diary, eager for the drama.
“Lisa’s the one! I know she is! I’ve never felt like this before!”
Kaeya jumped up and ran more up the hill, the other two following as he went.
“Honey honey how he thrills me! Aha, honey honey!” Kaeya sings, dancing about as he goes.
“Honey honey! Nearly kills me! Uh-huh, honey honey!” Venti joins in, happy to sing along to an old song the group used to love.
He turned to Diluc, the only one not running up the hill - and the only one carrying luggage - and pointed at him, expecting expression on.
Diluc sighed, “I heard about him before, I wanted to know some more, and now I know what you mean, he’s a love machine. Oh, he makes me dizzy!”
The other two giggled and continued the climb up the hill, singing and dancing all the way.
“When you do your… thing!” Kaeya and Venti finished in sync, before sitting down on a tree stump.
Diluc followed shortly after, “So this girl Lisa’s your mum?”
Kaeya shook his head, “The plot thickens.” He opened the book again. “All this time Lisa’s been telling me she loves me, and now she’s announced she’s engaged!”
Venti and Diluc’s mouths hang open.
“So now she’s going home to get married and I’m never going to see her again!”
Diluc winced, “Poor Jean…”
Kaeya shook his head, this time with a wide smile. “August 4th. What a night!”
“No..”
“ Beidou rented a motorboat so I took her over to the little island!”
“Beidou?”
“Kaeya wait!”
“Though I’m still obsessed with Lisa, Beidou’s so wild, and such a funny girl! One thing led to another, and... dot, dot, dot!”
“No!” the other two yelled.
“Yes!” Kaeya cackled.
They ran up to the entrance of the hotel.
“August 11th. What a night !”
“Again? Get it, Jean!” Diluc hit Venti up the head, “Ow…”
Ignoring his friend's antics, Kaeya continued, “Eula showed up out of the blue, so I said I’d show her the island. She’s so sweet and understanding, I couldn't help it and…”
“Dot dot dot!” The three said together, all varying levels of excitement.
“Oh my god.” Diluc said, “I actually can’t believe--”
A humming noise interrupted the redhead’s whining as Jean herself came out of the hotel. Diluc had always had a bit of a crush on Jean, and seeing her now made no difference. Her hair had few greys and her skin few wrinkles. She looked happy as always, a smile never disappearing from her face.
“Here come the bridesmaids!” She sang jokingly, teasing an inside joke between the four of them.
“Jean!” Diluc and Venti ran over to give the woman a hug.
“Wow! Look at you two… stop growing already!” She laughed, giving them each a kiss on the forehead.
“Ahh, I’ve missed you lot almost as much as Kaeya has. You sound like you’re having so much fun already.”
“Oh, we are!”
“Ahh,” Jean sighed, turning back around and waving them off, “I used to have fun.”
“Oh, we know!” Both Kaeya and Diluc hit Venti for that comment.
Jean raised an eyebrow but brushed it off quickly. It was good to see Kaeya having fun.
When Jean was far enough away, the three giggled and ran up to the hotel room, finishing the song from earlier.
“Honey, honey, touch me, baby! Aha honey, honey!”
“Oh my gosh,” Venti begins, “This is too much. Who even is your mum then? Lisa, Beidou or Eula?”
“That’s the thing, I don’t know!”
“Well, who did you invite then?”
Kaeya looks up at them sheepishly, and they both seem to get the message.
“Oh--my---god.” The two took steps back with each word before collapsing on chairs.
“Do they know?” asked Diluc.
“Of course they don’t! What would you write to a total stranger? ‘Please come to my wedding, you might be my mother?’ Of course not! They think mum sent the invites! And with what's in here,” he shook the diary, “no surprise they said yes!”
Venti jumped and squealed in delight. Diluc sighed, again. This will be a very interesting wedding.
