Work Text:
Laura walked into the club room, where everyone had been waiting for her, and slammed the big red book down on the table. "Everyone, I have an announcement," she said. "For our next club activity, we are reading... this."
"Oooh, what is it?" Manatsu grabbed the book and held it (upside down).
Minori leaned over and looked at the book. "That's the Communist Manifesto," she said.
"Exactly," said Laura, holding up a finger. "I've read it and it makes a lot of good points. It's something I'm going to implement in my kingdom when I am Queen."
"I don't think communist societies have queens," Minori said flatly.
"Hmm. You're right, they don't," said Laura. She put her hands on her hips. "That's why once I implement my plan, I will abolish my own position. Finally all the mermaids of the world will be united, and we will all work together for the greater good. From each mermaid according to their ability, to each according to their needs."
Asuka raised an eyebrow. "I thought becoming Queen was your dream this whole time? And now you've decided you want to give it up?"
"Yes, exactly," said Laura. "For the good of the ocean, I must give it up." She said this last part very dramatically and made a sweeping motion with her arm. "We've talked before about how the Tropical Club is about doing what is the most important right now. And right now, I think it's the most important to help the working class in their continued struggle against capitalism. As far as I'm concerned? Reading this book and then acting on it is a perfect club activity."
"You seem very, erm, intent on this," said Sango. "But I'm glad you've found something that you're so passionate about."
"Me too!" Manatsu exclaimed. "I want to help! Can I help?"
Laura looked at her oddly. "You mean, help with me in Grand Ocean? You're not a mermaid," she said.
"What about up here?" Manatsu asked. "I want to help the whole world!"
"Hmmmm..." Laura pondered this. "That's not a bad idea. We should help everyone unite against the bourgeoisie." She turned to Kururun. "What do you think, Kururun?"
"Kururun~" said Kururn, who was flopped on the table doing absolutely nothing.
"Perfect! It's settled, then," said Laura. "Once we've freed the people of my kingdom, we'll go around the world and help the noble proletariat uprising!"
"Whoo-hoo!" Manatsu threw up her hands in celebration. Then she paused. "Wait, what's a proletariat?"
Laura patted her on the head. "Don't worry. I'll tell you later."
