Chapter 1: the love letter

Chapter Text

Bellamy was in his last class, watching the clock like his life depended on it. Anything the teacher was saying didn’t reach him at all, the only thing he could think about was getting to the school shoe lockers as fast as possible once the bell rang.

‘come ON, can’t time just go by faster?!’

It was Friday and before the weekend he had something he needed to put in one of the lockers. See Bellamy had written a letter, a love letter, and he was actually going to give it to his crush. Bellamy never liked to show it but deep down he was a hopeless romantic, and after having a crush on a specific upperclassman since middle school, he wanted to at least TRY and do something about these feelings. In reality he knew his crush would never return his feelings, but he couldn’t help how he felt.

The truth is the person Bellamy had a crush on, was one of the most fearsome guys in the whole school, hell the whole town!
Donquixote Doflamingo. Bellamy had been in awe of Doflamingo since he first saw him and developed a huge crush for a few years now. Most people assumed Bellamy just idolized Doflamingo but in truth he’s in love with him. Doflamingo was tall, strong, blonde, and mean. He was also popular and a king of manipulation, some people even called him ‘the puppet master’. But Bellamy never focused on those things, to him Doflamingo was determined, passionate, charming and an overall incredible person. Bellamy had tried to get close to Doflamingo by doing favors for him, everything from running errands to fighting Doflamingo’s enemies. And every time Doflamingo would treat him with the same angry smile and annoyed tone.

Bellamy wasn’t stupid, he knew Doflamingo saw him as a pest, but no matter how badly Doflamingo treated him, no matter how dangerous the favors he asked Bellamy to do where, and no matter how many times Doflamingo’s “VIP” friends treated Bellamy like trash, he kept coming back. Desperately hoping that if he didn’t complain, if he didn’t get upset, if he did every little thing Doflamingo asked, maybe the man would give him a chance. But after years of this treatment Bellamy just couldn't pretend any more. He couldn’t keep lying to himself and tell himself that he was okay with this when he wasn't. So he gave himself a final ultimatum, he would tell Doflamingo how he felt and then be done with him. Bellamy knew that after everything that had happened, this wasn’t healthy, he should have given up a long time ago but he didn’t. Hopefully if he confesses, even in just a letter, he can finally put all these emotions to rest and try and move on. He knew it was risky and there was the possibility Doflamingo would just use the letter to humiliate him but Bellamy didn’t care. Doflamingo had done worse, Bellamy just wanted to try and get out these feelings he kept to himself for the past few years, but it wouldn’t be easy. Even knowing how Doflamingo treated him Bellamy still couldn’t help how his heart would race when he saw his senpai’s handsome face. How his thoughts would drift to the guy's deep voice and muscular body, getting lost in daydreams where Doflamingo was actually happy to see Bellamy, treated him gently and kindly.

Bellamy let out a deep sigh, when finally-

*brrring!*

At the sound of the bell, he jumped up, grabbed his bag, and ran out the door.

If the teacher had called to him about leaving so fast he didn’t notice, he had to get to Doflamingo’s locker before he or his friends got there. Bellamy could drop off the love letter and then his crush would find it before leaving school for the weekend. This way Bellamy would have the whole weekend before the dreaded rejection on Monday. Plus this way there was less of a chance his crush would be able to show his friends and make fun of Bellamy… at least right away. Bellamy knew Doflamingo and his crew loved to gossip so he was sure Doflamingo would show them the letter as a good laugh, however, deep down Bellamy hoped that with it being the weekend maybe it would allow time for the words of his letter sink in and Doflamingo wouldn’t show it to anyone. Maybe Doflamingo would actually take Bellamy’s letter to heart and keep it to himself...maybe Doflamingo would be surprised and...maybe he...

Just then Bellamy reached the front of the school, no one else was here yet.

‘Oh thank god’ Bellamy thought.

He immediately went to Doflamingo’s locker. He pulled a book out of his bag then took the letter out of it, he did this to try and keep the love letter as neat looking as possible, Bellamy even went out of his way to buy nice looking stationery just for this one letter. He took a deep breath and hesitated for a moment…

“...maybe I shouldn’t-”

But just then the sound of chatting and footsteps of other students jerked him out of his thoughts and into a panic. He put the letter in the locker and ran to his own to change his shoes and hopefully hide. As he’s putting his indoor school shoes away he looks over to Doflamingo’s locker. He feel’s his cheeks burn just thinking about the love letter he just put in there, then Doflamingo swaggers into view and Bellamy’s heart beats so loud he’s worried Doflamingo might actually be able to hear it. Bellamy pretends to be looking through his bag for something as he tries to discreetly watch Doflamingo from a few rows away but then-

Doflamingo stops and opens the locker NEXT to the one Bellamy put the letter in.

Bellamy feels his heart drop to his stomach and his blood runs cold.

‘oh god. oh god. oh god! oh god!! OH MY GOD?!?!?!’

Doflamingo had already left his locker and started heading out of the school, completely unaware. Meanwhile Bellamy is having an inner screaming match at himself.

‘OHMYF**KINGGOD IT WAS THE WRONG LOCKER! I PUT IT IN THE WRONG LOCKER!! WHY AM I SO STUPID WH- w-wait the letter! Oh god whose locker is that?! I have to-!’

but just then someone comes up to the locker Bellamy put his love letter in. A different upperclassman; tall with nape-length black hair, a muscular body, and broad shoulders. Bellamy feels like he might actually pass out. It was Crocodile

Just like Doflamingo, Crocodile was one of the most feared students in school, but unlike Doflamingo who had a more social and outgoing personality with a sense of humor, Crocodile did not. Crocodile was rough, vindictive, smug, and very quick to anger. Bellamy was also pretty sure he’d never seen the guy smile, Crocodile just always looked angry. He was someone Bellamy had never even spoken too. AND HE HAD HIS LOVE LETTER!

Bellamy doesn't even wait to see Crocodile’s reaction, in another panic Bellamy runs out of the school and doesn't stop till he gets home. He slams the front door to his house and slides down to the floor panting as the reality of the situation starts to set in.

“what have I done?!”
