Work Text:
There was a loud knock at the door. There was really only one person in the netherworld who knocked, a certain delinquent.
“Come in!” Ayashii hollered in response. Mao simply rolled his eyes as the aforementioned delinquent entered the room.
“You didn’t have to knock, Beryl. You could’ve just walked in.” Mao huffed. Damn delinquent and her damn manners.
“Knocking is polite.” She replied simply before flopping down on the couch next to Mao.
“Tch. Yeah, whatever.” He rolled his eyes, but she simply giggled and scooted closer to him.
“What movie are we watching, Ayashii?”
“Ehh...I was thinking something dumb like a cliche slasher film.” Aya responded, sifting through the different movies he had in his hands. “I picked up a couple of bad-looking movies, but I don’t know if they’re the good kind of bad or the painful kind of bad. Ooh, this looks interesting.” He popped the movie into the DVD player before joining the other two on the couch.
About halfway through the movie, Aya had his arm around Mao, and Beryl was laying on the latter boy’s lap. They were all comfortably cuddled up together. Aya used his free hand to run his fingers through Beryl’s hair, stroking her hair and running his fingers up the ridges of her horns. He also touched Mao’s face, who flinched and moved away from the contact, blushing lightly.
“What are you doing?” He asked, trying to sound harsh.
“Your skin is so pale. Kinda like a porcelain doll.”
“I am NOT like a porcelain doll! They’re weak and fragile, nothing like me.” Aya chuckled. Mao was anything but weak, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t fragile. He knew Mao was sensitive, he was sure Beryl knew too, but Mao would never admit that. Not that being sensitive was a bad thing. For a demon from the netherworld, an overlord in particular, though, he was sure it was the worst thing in hell.
“Yeah, you’re right. You’re the strongest person I know.” He said lovingly, pinching Mao’s cheek gently. “I love you.”
“Y-you…?! I-I-I…”
“Is it so hard to say ‘I love you too’?” Beryl asked, giggling at Mao’s flustered expression. His face was bright red and his eyes were blown open wide.
“S-shut up, Beryl! You wouldn’t know!”
“Oh yeah? Why don’t you tell me you love me, then? I bet I could say it back, unlike you!”
“Fine! I-I love you, Beryl.” Beryl felt her face grow warm, the words having an unexpected effect on her.
“I l-love you, too, Mao.” She responded as confidently as she could. She knew her cheeks were rosy with blush, but she refused to acknowledge why. “S-see?”
“Tch! W-whatever!”
“You two done yet?” Ayashii teased, holding back a laugh. “As much as I love watching you two confess your undying love for each other, we were in the middle of a movie.”
“Like any of us were paying attention,” Beryl replied, brushing off Aya’s comment about them being in love.
“W-wait a second, undying love?!” Mao exclaimed, face somehow flushing an even deeper red. Aya laughed heartily, and Beryl felt her face start to match Mao’s red one.
"Asshole!" Mao graveled, angrily hitting Aya on the arm.
"Ow, ow! Okay, okay, calm down. I'm sorry, I'm just teasing you. You two are so cute together."
"We are not!" They both exclaimed at the same time. They were really just proving his point even more. Aya chuckled again, giving beryl a small kiss on the forehead. She pouted slightly but said nothing. Aya also gave Mao a small kiss on the cheek, earning a small whine from the dean.
"Let's finish this movie, shall we?"
