daydreaming under the moon

Summary:

jungkook tries everything an omega usually does to appeal to an alpha. but little does jungkook know that yoongi was a human.

Chapter 1

Summary:

jungkook heard the door open, an insult on the tip of his tongue when he felt himself tense up. standing right in front of him was the man from before, except he wasn’t as wide awake. the sharp eyes were now soft and tired. the big presence that jungkook had felt was now covered by an oversized black shirt.

“can i help you?” the man grumbled, obviously just rolling out of bed. despite that, jungkook couldn’t help but find this man attractive. ridiculously attractive. everything about him was making jungkook’s omega crazy. he wanted to drop to his knees right there and then. but jungkook fought against his omega, even if his knees almost buckled.

Chapter Text

jungkook is late to the class because of his one night stand. now before anyone judges him, he wasn’t busy having sex. no. his one night stand turned off his alarm in the middle of the night because he needed to get all eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. while jungkook admires the dedication, this was his last class of the week, and the teacher's assistant was strict about latecomers. as nice and steamy as angry sex was, jungkook has been trying to buildup a good connection with the TA that he wasn’t going to let some asshole alpha ruin six weeks of hard work and ass-kissing.

“good morning hobi-hyung,” jungkook beamed, trying not to pant loudly as he barely made it to the crowd of students going in. hoseok turned to look at him, smiling brightly at him. “you look amazing today, new shirt?”

hoseok looked down at his shirt, laughing as he nodded. jungkook stepped inside, glad that he didn’t arrive late. hoseok turned to lock the door like he always did, shutting out any late student. “it is,” hoseok patted jungkook’s back as they stepped into the auditorium. “thanks for noticing, jungkook–ssi.”

jungkook just smiled before walking to his seat. as he did, he noticed someone seated at hoseok’s TA desk. his sharp, feline eyes watched jungkook as he crossed in front of him. jungkook felt a cold chill go down his spine as their eyes met, something making jungkook’s omega shiver underneath the man’s stare. a bit flustered, jungkook looked away immediately, feeling the heat rising to his cheeks.

“alright, professor kang will be running a little late today so he asked me to start without him,” hoseok said as he walked to the middle of the auditorium. “last week he left you all to read the first five chapters of the textbook, if you haven't read them, i suggest you take this time to read them.”

without another word, hoseok walked back to his table, the man leaning into him as soon as he was close.

“is that guy always kissing up to you?” the man whispered to hoseok, jungkook’s wolf ears picking up the whisper.

hoseok smiled as he settled down into his seat, pulling some papers close to him. “yeah,” hoseok whispered back, jungkook chuckling as he took out his textbook, opening up to the sixth chapter. “but he’s cute, so i let him.”

the man shook his head at hoseok, sharp eyes looking up at jungkook. jungkook pretended to be reading the chapter. “don’t be a such a doormat, hobi. the guy is obviously using you.”

jungkook felt offended, of course he wasn’t. maybe he flutters his eyelids whenever he gets one answer wrong and coyly asks for hoseok to turn a blind eye. and maybe jungkook butters him up with compliments before asking for his missing assignments and yeah, okay, maybe he was using him.

“you don’t think i know that?” hoseok laughed, the sound making jungkook look up. he knows? hoseok knows that jungkook is using him? “but he’s cute, hyung. there’s something adorable about him that i’m okay with it. plus, i never do anything he asks me to do.”

jungkook scoffed, looking back down at his textbook. and here he thought they were going somewhere. no wonder his grade never changed. just stayed at a low b minus. jungkook sighed, deciding to pass this class the boring way - by working hard.

“that’s stupid,” the man sighed. “just because he has a cute face doesn’t make that okay. you’re both ridiculous.”

jungkook’s omega wavered, making an uneasy feeling pass through him. almost as if his omega didn’t like hearing what the man had to say about him. jungkook frowned, what did he care? this man meant nothing to him. who cares if he thinks badly about jungkook?

and yet, the disapproving look on the man’s face, the words echoing in jungkook’s head - he couldn’t help but feel guilty.

“do you have anything to eat besides soggy fries?” jungkook whined as he looked around taehyung’s kitchen. “i am starving.”

taehyung was in the living room finishing up the game as jungkook walked around his kitchen, completely disgusted with how disorganized everything was. taehyung must be painting again.

“nope,” taehyung said. “ah, stupid gun! i’m out of ammo, jungkook, come tap back in!”

jungkook ignored him, just opening then closing the cabinets over and over again. “you’re useless to me. i’m going over to seokjin’s, want anything?”

taehyung jumped from his seat, pausing his game before turning to look at jungkook. jungkook smiled at him as he put on his jacket. “ask him for any food waste!”

“again? taehyung, just go out and buy some paint,” jungkook sighed, opening the door. “you always pout when your paint doesn’t come out as  pigmented as you want it. then you end up in a bad art funk for weeks.”

taehyung ignored him, turning back to his game. jungkook rolled his eyes before closing the door behind him, and walking a couple doors down. he knocked on seokjin’s door, yawning into his hand as he waited.

the rain was slowly starting to pick up, making the university below look so melancholic. students running from class to class, the soft hum of cars zooming by. jungkook almost felt sleepy.

jungkook heard the door open, an insult on the tip of his tongue when he felt himself tense up. standing right in front of him was the man from before, except he wasn’t as wide awake. the sharp eyes were now soft and tired. the big presence that jungkook had felt was now covered by an oversized black shirt.

“i’m looking for seokjin–hyung but i must’ve gotten the wrong dorm,” jungkook looked around, he must’ve knocked on the wrong door. seokjin doesn’t have a roommate. he lives alone.

the man yawned before walking away, leaving the door open. jungkook furrowed his eyebrows, watching as the man disappeared into the apartment. “jin-hyung, it’s for you!” he heard the man yell.

jungkook peaked his head in, immediately recognizing the inside of the dorm room. this was definitely the correct place. “hyung?” jungkook said before stepping inside. “you here?”

“yeah!” he heard someone call out from inside. “i’m in the restroom, guk! i’ll be right out, make yourself comfortable!”

jungkook smiled at that, toeing off his shoes before closing the door behind him. the dorm room was so quiet, you could hear the rain outside. the complete opposite of taehyung’s loud dorm room. he put on seokjin’s guest slippers and walked towards the kitchen, stomach rumbling as he did.

“taehyung’s asking for food waste again,” jungkook said, as if seokjin was in the same room as him.

“i know, i left a bag by the door,” seokjin responded. jungkook turned towards the door, spotting the black trash bag. “it has all my fruit scrapings, please take it to him when you leave! and you told him about his pouting, right? the pigmentation?”

jungkook hummed loudly, opening the fridge. he almost cried from how beautiful everything was. so neatly organized and full. “i tried to but he still insisted.”

seokjin sighed as he opened the bathroom door, jungkook turning to look at him. “that kim guy must be back from new zealand,” seokjin said as he walked into the kitchen, leaning his hip against the counter. “do you want me to make you anything?”

jungkook shook his head, grabbing a pudding cup before smiling at him. “i just need something to get me through tonight’s studying. i have months of material to catch up on if i want to raise my grade,” he peeled off the top of the pudding cup, licking it. “who was the guy at the door? one night stand?”

seokjin furrowed his eyebrows before realizing who jungkook was talking about. “oh, no, that’s yoongi. he’s my new roommate.”

yoongi. so that was his name. “ah,” jungkook said, trying to sound as disinterested as possible. his omega whined, wanting to know more about yoongi. even his name sounded as pretty as yoongi’s pouty lips. “that sucks.”

seokjin shook his head, reaching over to close his fridge door. “not really, he’s really nice. we bicker here and there but they’re always harmless.” seokjin smiled at jungkook. “why? did you find him attractive?”

jungkook scoffed, hating how easy seokjin could see right through him. he could probably smell jungkook’s whiney omega. “he’s okay,” jungkook lied. yoongi was more than okay. “i saw him today in class with my TA so i was curious.”

seokjin snickered, giving jungkook a look before walking away. “be careful, jungkook. your curiosity usually leads in a different direction and yoongi isn’t like that.”

jungkook huffed, offended as he followed seokjin into the living room. “what’s that supposed to mean? i’m not that curious about your new roommate.” jungkook sat down on the couch, ignoring the smirk on seokjin’s face. “but is he an alpha? or?”

“if you’re so curious,” seokjin slapped jungkook’s legs, making the youngest put them down from the table. “go ask him yourself. his room is just on the right.”

jungkook just scoffed, waiting for seokjin to turn on the television. jungkook’s wolf ears picked up the soft mumbles coming from yoongi’s room, almost as if the man was sleep talking. jungkook smiled softly as he ate his pudding, his omega finding it adorable.

jungkook walked into the auditorium, expecting to find hoseok at the front door but he wasn’t there. instead, yoongi stood there, meeting jungkook’s gaze for half a second before looking away. jungkook’s omega whined at the lack of attention. jungkook shook away the gutted feeling and made his way to his seat.

“morning,” he said to the girl next to him. she smiled at him, bidding him a good morning as jungkook settled into his seat. he looked around the room, trying to find hoseok. “where’s hoseok?”

the girl looked over at yoongi. “hoseok won’t be able to come in for a week,” she whispered, jungkook following her line of vision to look over at yoongi. “rumor is that he’s in a rut.”

jungkook’s eyes widened, leaving yoongi to look at her. “he has a mate?” jungkook whispered. the girl nodded, making jungkook wonder who it was. he’s never seen hoseok with someone. if it wasn’t yoongi, then who was it?

yoongi walked to the middle of the auditorium, looking around the class as he waited for everyone to settle down. he sighed, his sharp eyes making jungkook shuffle in his seat. there was something about the man that made jungkook feel flustered. he wasn’t sure what it was but it was starting to frustrate jungkook.

“as many of you already know,” yoongi spoke loud and clear, his voice carrying all the way to the back where jungkook was seated. “mr. jung won’t be able to join us for two weeks so i will be replacing him for the time being. my name is min yoongi.” he bowed before walking off to the table.

professor kang walked in a few seconds after, but jungkook’s eyes stayed on yoongi as he sat down. yoongi opened a folder, picking up hoseok’s grading pen, and quickly went to work.

all throughout the class, jungkook couldn’t pay attention to whatever the professor had been talking about. he couldn’t find himself looking away from yoongi. even when he did, his eyes found themselves coming back to yoongi. something about the man lured jungkook back.

jungkook was in trouble.

“so, is he an alpha?” taehyung asked as he shoved a spoonful of ice cream into his mouth. jungkook deflated into the seat, shrugging his shoulders. “well, have you asked seokjin? you said they’re roommates! maybe he knows.”

jungkook stared at the ceiling of the ice cream shop, shaking his head. “no,” he said sternly. “i already made a big deal to him about not caring, it’ll hurt my pride if i ask him.”

taehyung giggled. “jungkook,” he said, rolling his eyes playfully. “fine, what if i ask him? he’ll tell me.”

jungkook lifted his head, looking at taehyung. “really? you’ll ask him?”

“yes,” taehyung smiled. “if it means you’ll swear off those asshole alphas, i’ll ask him. maybe this way you’ll actually get yourself into a relationship.”

jungkook rolled his eyes. “it’s not a crush! i just want to know if he’s an alpha.”

“see you say that but we all know your omega is head over heels for him,” taehyung giggled again, eating another spoonful. “deny it as much as you want, your omega falls for alphas too fast. and most of the time, they’re assholes who just use you for sex.”

jungkook ignored him, looking out the window in an attempt to avoid that statement. he knew that better than anyone else. his omega easily falls for alphas, always wanting to please them, and make them happy. when jungkook was easily influenced by his omega, jungkook would let himself get emotionally and physically attached to alphas who would never reciprocate his feelings. jungkook would bond with alphas who would never returned the bond. which led to jungkook getting his heart broken and his omega hurting for months.

it wasn’t until the last alpha that jungkook let himself fall for deeply, that jungkook realized how fragile his omega was. when the alpha left jungkook for another omega, jungkook fell sick with heartbreak, not leaving his bed for months. after that, jungkook started having one night stands. he would get his sexual fill and save his omega the heartbreak.

“oh, isn’t that him?” taehyung used his spoon to point in a direction, jungkook following with his head. jungkook’s stomach churned as he found yoongi sitting across a beautiful woman. she was eating from yoongi’s cup, yoongi smiling at her easily. “they seem close.”

jungkook swallowed the urge to whimper, his omega begging jungkook to go interrupt whatever was happening. his omega whined, wanting to throw a fit, but jungkook fought against it. he just watched as yoongi said something, making the woman laugh.

“it’s fine,” jungkook said as he looked down at his ice cream, which had melted from jungkook’s disinterest. “it wasn’t like i was going to marry him or anything.”

taehyung kept watching them. “i don’t think they’re dating.” he said, eyes moving up and down the two. “she’s wearing a wedding ring and he isn’t.”

jungkook’s omega made jungkook snap his head around, eyes roaming their hands to confirm what taehyung was saying. surely enough, the woman had a sparkly diamond on her finger, and yoongi didn’t.

“that,” jungkook didn’t care. he didn’t want to care. “that doesn’t mean anything. hyung, please stop staring at them.”

taehyung smiled at him, jungkook looking away from yoongi. “it means something,” he said. “what do you think the story is there? should we eavesdrop.”

“no, we shouldn’t,” jungkook said but his omega did it anyway. jungkook picked up their conversation easily, ignoring the smirk growing on taehyung’s face.

“i’m fine,” yoongi said to the woman, sighing softly. “i wish you’d stop worrying about me.”

the woman shook her head, the hand without the ring reaching out to grab yoongi’s. taehyung raised his eyebrows at her bold move, jungkook’s omega wanting to growl. jungkook’s stomach felt funny at the soft smile yoongi gave her.

“i’m always going to worry about you, oppa.”

jungkook looked away, his stomach churning as he did. he felt strange again. felt his omega bouncing around, trying to get jungkook to get up and do something but jungkook melted more into the seat.

“hyung?” jungkook said softly. “can we leave?”

taehyung nodded, picking up both their ice creams, and going to throw them away. when taehyung came back, jungkook slowly wobbled out of his seat. he wasn’t sure what was happening or why but jungkook avoided looking at yoongi as he left the ice cream shop.

jungkook sighed as he rolled around in bed, the soft sound of the rain hitting the concrete echoing in his room. jungkook turned in his bed, mind busy with all sorts of thoughts. his mind bouncing from one subject to the other. he thought about taehyung and seokjin, their unspoken feelings for one another. he thought about taehyung still being hung over the mysterious kim man. he thought about who the mysterious kim man was and how many artworks he’s inspired taehyung to make. he thought about hoseok and who his mate was. he thought about hoseok’s alpha and how sexy he must be during heat. he thought about yoongi. his mind went into a rabbit hole of questions with him. who was yoongi? where did he come from? was he an alpha? beta? omega? who was the woman? was she married? what was their relationship? did she know yoongi before getting married? did yoongi love her? was she just his sister? why was she worried about him? why did jungkook feel terrible whenever someone touched him? why was he longing to be the one to touch yoongi?

“fuck,” jungkook whispered as he sat up, feeling his body warming up as his mind started to drift somewhere else. yoongi’s lips, yoongi’s long and slim fingers, yoongi’s deep voice. he shook his head. no, he shouldn’t go there. jungkook doesn’t even know who yoongi was. whether he was an alpha or not.

jungkook ran his fingers through his hair, letting out a deep sigh. he can’t. he shouldn’t be falling for yoongi like this. not again, not after jungkook promised himself to keep his omega’s feelings out of it.

if he liked someone, jungkook wanted to like them on his own terms, not because his omega wants to bond with an alpha so desperately.

jungkook got up from the bed, throat dry. he grabbed his jacket from the desk chair and walked out of his dorm. he put on his jacket as he walked down the building’s stairs, skipping over a couple steps, mind made up.

he’ll just have to find someone to forget yoongi. even if it was just for tonight.

jungkook walked down the path to the front of the street, he looked both ways before crossing the street, feeling his omega whine about jungkook’s plan.

he crossed the street, throat feeling drier the closer he got to his favorite club. jungkook walked past the local park, coming to a stop when he spotted someone sitting at the swings. his heart sped up as he recognized who it was.

his omega beamed as jungkook stared at yoongi, who slowly swung up and down, mind somewhere else. jungkook turned to the club, just a few more feet. jungkook closed his eyes. he wanted to like someone on his own terms. his omega whined, begging jungkook to go to the swings.

“i hate you,” jungkook mumbled to himself, his omega happy as jungkook took small steps towards yoongi. yoongi looked up at jungkook, his eyes staring at him curiously. “hi, sorry, i saw you on my way to the club.”

yoongi’s gaze wasn’t as sharp as before, yet, jungkook felt flustered. almost as if he said something wrong. “there’s a club?” yoongi asked, his voice sounding just as nice as jungkook remembered.

“yeah, it’s themed,” jungkook said, leaning against the swing pole, not sure whether to sit down or not. “you can come with, if you,” that’s weird jungkook. “if you want.”

yoongi chuckled, jungkook feeling his stomach churn at the view in front of him. he’s never seen yoongi smile at him like that before. why...why did jungkook’s heart flutter? “i’m good, thank you.” yoongi gestured at the second swing. “you can sit, if you want.”

jungkook should turn down the offer, he should go to the club. he was supposed to forget yoongi. “sure,” jungkook sat down at the swing, “i haven’t been on a swing since elementary.”

yoongi hummed, slowly swinging back and forth. “i come here often, it’s a nice place to think.” he said, gesturing at the sky. jungkook looked up, eyes widening when he saw the moon. “you can always see the moon here too.”

“that’s nice,” jungkook whispered, staring at the moon, feeling a breeze pass them by. “i’m sorry for interrupting your thoughts, i can leave.”

yoongi met his gaze, a small smile on his face. “you’re fine, jeon.” he said. “do you always party?”

“no,” jungkook quickly reassured, not sure why. “i was just overthinking a lot of things that i needed a distraction.”

“i see,” yoongi said as he stared at jungkook. he watched as yoongi stared at him through the corner of his eye, making jungkook’s heart race.

jungkook looked at yoongi, heart racing even faster when yoongi didn’t look away. the two of them sat there, staring at each other. jungkook’s omega begged him to move in closer.

“so how long have you known hoseok?” jungkook asked, drawing on the sand with his foot. “you two seemed close.”

yoongi chuckled as he turned away from jungkook. “i’ve known him for a couple of weeks. how did you know we were close?”

“you just seem like you are. i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to overstep,” jungkook looked down at his aimless drawing. “sorry.”

“you apologize a lot, don’t you?” yoongi chuckled. “there’s no need to apologize. you’re right. we’re close. it’s the only reason why i agreed to take his place for these two weeks. i would’ve turned down the offer in a heartbeat if it had been anyone else.”

jungkook couldn’t help but chuckle, finding it a little cute. “that’s very nice of you.”

“what about you? are you close with hoseok?”

“not really. i’ve only talked to him a couple times,” jungkook lied through his teeth, not sure why. jungkook knew he was lying and yoongi knew it too. but if yoongi had any indication of calling jungkook out, he didn’t show it.

“well, if you get the chance to know him, you should,” yoongi smiled as he turned towards jungkook. “he’s a great person.”

“you too,” jungkook blurted out, making yoongi raise his eyebrows. shit. “i mean—you seem like a good person. not everyone would step in for their friend.”

yoongi nodded. “thank you,” he smiled a little bit bigger before turning away and towards the moon.

jungkook let out a wavering chuckle, feeling his palms start to sweat.

but it was different.

jungkook noticed it then. that his omega hadn’t said anything or made him do anything. his omega only whined and threw a fit whenever yoongi wasn’t near.

but now that yoongi was close, now that they had a decent conversation—his omega stayed silent. no whining and no tantrum.

these feelings.

they were jung—no.

“i should go,” jungkook shot up from the swing, startling yoongi. “i’ll see you at school!”

without another word, jungkook ran all the way home, trying his hardest not to smile.

these feelings weren’t his omega.

shit.

and yoongi. he was cuter up close.
