Good day, Kim Seokjin

Of course Taehyung had realised it before, that his fame had risen in the last few years. But that morning, when he went to get the post at the front door of his apartment, tossing the bills to the side for later in the week, before turning over the last post card, that’s when it hit.

The card was simple blue with the Make a Wish logo printed in white. On the back a short message, phone number and email address.

“Make a wish.. would love to meet you… sent a letter… visit patient… Kim Seokjin.” Taehyung was muttering to himself while scanning through the note. Someone wanted to meet him so much they used their one Make a Wish chance on it.

He wasted no time, of course he’d do it, if he could help make someone a bit happier, he would take the shot. He typed in the number on his phone, pressing dial.

“Hello? Kim Seokjin speaking.” The voice on the other line sounded bright, definitely higher than his own, but somehow more mature.

“Hi, I’m Kim Taehyung. I just got your card.” He spoke carefully, unsure of what he was supposed to say.

“Ah, Taehyung-ssi. Right, I assume you want to participate in this?”

“Yes. If someone wants me there, I’ll be happy to come see them for a bit.”

“Right. Well, I have spoken to your manager already, so all that’s left to do is plan when you are free to come by. Do you want me to speak to your manager about this or will you do it?” The other male spoke quickly, but clearly understandable. He was obviously experienced, making Taehyung feel at ease enough to continue.

“No, right now is fine. Would Tuesday work? Next week?” It was lucky, really, that he just happened to have a scheduled day off soon. After that he would be back in the practice room before kicking off his first tour.

“Tuesday… That’s perfect actually! He is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday so this will be the perfect way to cheer him up before. At what time can you stop by?”

“I’m not sure how you normally do this…” Taehyung was once again back to speaking hesitantly. “Could you make free time from eleven to nine? I- I will plan the day, if you tell me what I should know.” Having said it out loud he felt more confident in his idea. He just wanted to make the day as special as possible for the.. boy? man? The person that apparently went by he and him pronouns.

“Oh? We don’t get that a lot, but sure. I’m sure he will like that. Is it alright for me to text you some of his info?” The next few days Taehyung spent his time in between practices planning, asking Seokjin questions about the guy and organizing the various activities.

“Seokjin hyung, is this alright?” Nervously Jungkook showed the older his outfit. Yesterday, they had told him he’d get a visit today. At first all of the hospital staff refused to tell him who it was or why he was coming, but Seokjin had a massive weak spot for the younger’s doe eyes. And boy did Jungkook know it, so now he was getting dressed to meet Kim Taehyung.

He was wearing an oversized black hoodie, with the hood up and a black headband under it, black oversized cargo pants and black platform boots. “You look good, totally you,” came the answer. Jungkook let out a sigh of relief.

Taehyung was led through the hospital to a room on the fifth floor. It was a room with three beds, but it looked as though only one was currently occupied. While the tables and shelves next to two of the beds were empty, the bed next to the window on the left was somewhat decorated.

A small bouquet of yellow flowers with green in between were bound together with string. It was such an unusual combination that they must be there for their meanings. ‘What did mom tell me about them?’ All he could remember was that the string was to the right, so it’s meaning was for the recipient. Then he saw the man sitting on the bed.

“Jungkook-ssi?” The other had apparently been sitting on his bed, watching Taehyung look through the room with big eyes.

The sound made him snap back to reality, before replying. “Yes. You can… drop the formalities if you want. You’re older than me, anyway.”

“Alright, call me hyung, Jungkook-ah.” For some reason, Jungkook looked like he hadn’t expected that, so the singer continued. “What, you thought I was going to drop formalities while having you politely calling me Taehyung-ssi?”

The younger grinned at that, he was right, that sounded stupid.

“Jungkook-ah. What do the flowers mean?”

“Hm? Oh! The yellow one is Goldenrod, means encouragement or good luck, the green ones are thyme, for courage and strength. Seokjin hyung’s boyfriend is obsessed with flower meanings, he gives me new ones whenever he comes to visit.”

Taehyung was now sitting on the bed next to Jungkook with some space in between them. “What about the drawings, who made those?” He nodded slightly towards the wall behind the bed, where a good number of drawings were displayed. They varied from simple to elaborate.

“Some of them are from the children here,” he moved his hand in the direction of some obviously childish drawings, “kids I babysit,” those kids seemed to be older, because the drawings had upgraded from colorful lines to actual drawings with varying skill levels, “and my own.” The last few drawings were obviously a grown up’s doing. Some were simple sketches, others more elaborate, but they had a consistent level of talent.

“You should draw for one of my albums.” The comment had come out as a passing thought, which made Jungkook if possible even more shocked. People had complimented his art before, of course, he knew he had some talent, but getting a job offer out of it. One mentioned so casually, not to mention from his favourite singer. “If you want to, of course. I also can’t promise we’ll use it without question. But I like your style.”

It took Jungkook a while after that to recover, embarrassingly so. Now they were at a small café for lunch.

“He was doing fine actually. But then came the onion and he genuinely tried cutting it. With the wrong side of the knife, the round side of the onion on the cutting board.” Both of them were laughing at Jungkook’s retellings of Namjoon and his failed cooking attempt. Sejin, Taehyung’s manager, was sitting with them, laughing along just as hard.

The day was only getting started, but Taehyung was quickly growing to like Jungkook’s personality. It had taken a bit to get him to really talk, but when he finally did the man was energetic and funny. Taehyung also adored his smiles. Plural because every smile had a different reason. It would take him a bit to learn all of them, but he could already tell he would love every second of it.

For Jungkook it was different, but enjoyable all the same. He had already known he loved Taehyung, as a singer, an inspiration. But the Kim Taehyung with him today was even more welcomed. The one who laughed at his jokes and stories, who told him stories of his own.

The rest of the day was filled with whining, jumping, running, smiles, bunny dances, and doe eyes from Jungkook.

Whining because Taehyung wouldn’t tell him anything about where they were going all throughout their car ride, instead distracting him with games like Perfect Pitch game.

Jumping as soon as they got out of the car at Lotte World. Jungkook started running around, yelling softly about how happy he was, before jumping once more onto Taehyung’s back, who had easily caught him. They had spent the first few minutes walking around like that.

Running around from one attraction to another, pulling Taehyung along by his hand.

Smiles whenever they were on an attraction, whenever Taehyung made a joke, when they were fitting cute headbands on each other at the shop.

Bunny dances when they stop at a restaurant on their way to the next location, because apparently Jungkook got happy enough from food that he made small movements while sitting that Taehyung says looked like a bunny hopping around.

Doe eyes when Taehyung took him to his favourite spot in the city, where they could look over a huge part of the people walking around down there, sitting safe and quiet.

Yes, Taehyung decided when he got back to his apartment after dropping Jungkook off at the hospital, the man’s number in his phone, today had been a success. A genuine good day.
