In a neighborhood playground, a group of bullies is kicking a little spiky blond kid named Katsuki. The child, barely five years old, had just manifested his quirk a few days ago, and, in his excitement, had accidentally hurt another kid with it, despite apologizing, the kid's older brother (who was starting middle school) didn't take the whole thing too kindly, hence the situation Katsuki's currently in.
"How does it feels now, huh?" The leader of the gang asks while landing another kick on the ribs "Not so tough now, huh villain?!" the poor victim in the ground moves a little
"I'm... I'm not a villain!" he groans in pain, little tears, which would be denied later, start to form in the rim of his eyes
"You make explosions! that hurt people! you hurt my little brother! your quirk is evil and you are a villain!" the same kid replies
"And you are ganging up against someone younger than you!" a new voice sounds in the playground, this newcomer throws some pebbles at the bullies, making them stop on their attack and to actually get back. Katsuki looks up and sees a little silhouette up on the slide, it has a cape, a mask, and boots; the figure jumps off the slide and the boy can see the new kid better, they had black-greenish hair tied up in a high ponytail and a little dark sleeveless bodysuit "Three middle schoolers against one young kid isn't fair! you are being the real villains here! And I must stop you in the name of justice!" the child proudly declares with determination
"Oi, she is the quirkless brat!" one of the gang says
'Quirkless?' Katsuki thinks with dread 'She can't be older than me, I didn't stand a chance against them, they'll hurt her!' he tries to move but the older boy steps on his back while smirking
"Get her" he orders
The other two kids run to the girl to tackle her, one with little electric sparkles in his hands and the other with his fingers starting to look like rope, just as they get close, she twirls effortlessly between them before kicking them to the dirt, then, she runs at full speed to the leader, who just stares in a bit of shock, and pulls him to the ground as well, she steps on him before jumping to put herself between them and the injured kid
"You are weak, you better run before I get back up" she tells them seriously
The other kids groan and stand up, the leader smirks at her words
"Huh? What back up could get a quirkless deku like you?" Katsuki sees how the unknown girl flinches at the nickname. She frowns, takes a bit of air, and proceeds to scream at the top of her lungs
"MOM!!!!!!" she yells with all her might, the other kids pale and runs in fear of an adult intervention
"We'll remember this" the leader shouts as they escape the desert playground. The girl huffs before turning to Katsuki
"Hey, are you alright?" she asks offering her hand, he just stares at her for a moment before taking the hand in front of him, he stands up and makes a face at the pain he can feel all over his body
"A bit in pain, but I'm fine, thanks" he answers, Katsuki has the nagging feeling that he has seen this girl elsewhere. The girl looks at him and beams
"You are the boom boom kid!" she exclaims
"The... boom boom kid?" Katsuki blinks confused
"Yes! yes! the kid with the sparkles in his hands!" she smiles brightly and takes off her mask "I'm Shim-" she stops, looking the tiniest bit conflicted and in pain, but just for a second before smiling again, a little less bight this time "I'm Midoriya Izumi" she bows "we are in the same class at daycare"
A flash of recognition hits Katsuki, she is the girl that recently moved to the neighborhood, he remembers his parents talking about it cause they were curious
"I'm Bakugou Katsuki" he also bows, the girl- Izumi, looks excited
"Your quirk is so cool! and also, so pretty!" she beams, the boy can almost see stars on her eyes, he blushes
"They said it was a villains quirk" he scowls
"Well don't listen to them, I really think is really cool! you could use it to stop other villains, or, or to save people!" she points out
'she really looks excited' then a thought occurs to the blond child
"Hey, do you like heroes?" the other girl beams once more and Katsuki has to almost look away cause her smile is way too bright.
That is the question that starts everything, the question that becomes the starting point of their friendship
