Love it when we make up (go ahead and ruin my makeup)

Summary:

Taehyung pursued art for a reason; as a Fine Arts student by day and a Youtuber at night, he loves pretty things like detailed paintings and seamless makeup looks.

He should've known that the tattooed boy, a son of the makeup artist he looks up to, will pique his interest.

He loves pretty things after all.

Notes:

Prompt:

Taehyung is a rising Beauty Guru on Youtube; he’s skilled, funny and terribly charming. When a major brand asks him for a collaboration, he’s sure it’s the turning point of his career. The owner of the brand is his hero, his inspiration, a teen mum who built her make-up empire by her late thirties/early forties.

When he meets the woman’s son, Jungkook, a tattoed gamer with a blatant disdain for the online beauty community, he realizes that not only his career is in for a big upgrade.

Work Text:

The room is filled with the quiet rustling of papers and soft taps on a laptop, quick fingers typing away, actions in a rush. Taehyung's eyes flit on the screen and his focus is wavering away.

It's a Friday night, but here he is, slaving away on a very, overdue video he promised his followers. Jimin is out there partying to who knows where, and as much as Taehyung wants to abandon his work and join Jimin in his rendezvous, he opted to stay.

He loves posting videos on his channel, revels in using the platform as an outlet for his creativity, but he regrets the deadlines he set for himself. He really shouldn't complain, being a rising Youtuber definitely had its perks; the freedom to post whatever and whenever he wants, PR packages from different makeup brands, and of course, the Youtube money.

Or as Jimin calls it, the "beauty blender bucks".

Upon monetizing his channel a couple of months back, Taehyung knew he has to set a pace for his channel to continuously grow and stay relevant in the game. He vowed to his subscribers that he'll be posting every one to two weeks, depending on how many requirements he has to pass for university.

Juggling plates and outputs for art school and living a second life as a Youtuber was something Taehyung was immensely grateful for. All of his time and focus were being poured to things he's passionate about. He had a lot of moments in his life where he reflects how fortunate he is to do the things he loves.

This moment, however, isn't one of those moments.

Taehyung curses as he misspells another word for the video's description, his vision blurring the sentences together due to weariness. He manages to finish it just fifteen minutes before the deadline, a shaky exhale of relief escaping his lips. He clicks on the upload button, the whole uploading process took another 5 minutes.

The hair on the back of his head is disheveled due to ruffling it often as a way to relieve stress. He tries to smooth it out but to no avail. He moves on from his hair to collect and dispose of all the notes and drafts he scribbled on small pieces of paper. It's a habit he does before editing and posting, he thinks it helps with organizing his ideas into a cohesive process.

He then quickly makes himself a late dinner, microwaved mac & cheese, with a can of coke. He couldn't bother cooking a whole meal, not when he's going to pass out from fatigue.

He sits down on his desk with his meal, checking out the contents of the video to double-check any errors he might've overlooked and to browse the comments as well. It has been ten minutes since the video was posted and it already garnered a hundred comments. Taehyung's heart swells with appreciation for his viewers. Scrolling through the page, he can see mostly positive comments, praising him for the summer-themed look he created.

There are a few negative comments too and although it gave him a slight pang in the chest, he knows better to ignore.

Several more minutes pass by, Taehyung is glad the video earned a lot of positive feedback. He's about to call it a day when a specific account he knows all too well, commented.

"This is so lovely! Our team would love to have a collaboration with u ♡"

It took him several double-takes to process who commented on his video. Taehyung doesn't trust his eyes so he refreshes the page, expecting the comment to be a figment of his imagination, but it's still there.

On the topmost part was a comment Taehyung imagined about on a lot of days. It was a comment from one of his biggest inspirations, the main person that got him interested in makeup in the first place. The person that inspired him to make a channel of his own.

Beside the comment displayed Jeon Kyungmi's picture, one of the biggest makeup channels from YouTube's early days until now.

He discovered her channel during a time he needed it the most, the woman's videos served as a safe space he can always visit. Jeon Kyungmi is one of the people Taehyung views with utmost respect.

While he's in the middle of an existential crisis, his phone rings with the sound of a notification alarm. Snapping out of his trance, Taehyung hurriedly opened his phone to see an email from Jeon Kyungmi herself.

The word restless is an understatement; Taehyung is feeling a flurry of emotions all at once. His shaky fingers hover over the email notification with anticipation, breath hitching as he does tap it. Taehyung's eyes slowly scan the text, it was quite brief, but the contents still filled his heart with trepidation. He's not quite sure if he processed the whole email clearly but there is a specific statement he couldn't quite get over with:

"I'm personally inviting you for a collaboration with our brand, JK Cosmetics. This collection will be designed by you and our team, both will be partaking in the overall designing process. I look forward to hearing from you and I'm hoping you will be a part of our team in the future!"

The text was concluded with a custom email signature of Jeon Kyungmi and her company, a dainty design fitting her aesthetic. He rereads the whole email repeatedly just to make sure his mind is not fabricating things up, and when he's a hundred percent sure that wasn't the case, he proceeds to muffle his scream with a pillow.

He's beyond elated, it was something he dreamed about but didn't dare hope to actually happen. He is fully aware he is new to the industry and the competition with other creators can be tight, so to be picked by one of the most successful brands for a collaboration was so stupendous to Taehyung.

He did the next thing that pops into his mind: he calls Jimin.

He hastily looks for Jimin's name in his contacts. He chooses the video call option the moment he finds it.

It was ringing for a few seconds but then the audio suddenly bursts out with loud bass due to the club music, with Jimin looking wasted beyond control displayed on his screen. The screen is dark but every now and then, Jimin's face shows better when bright neon lights flash on his face.

"Taetae!! W-where are you?" Jimin slurs out his words while he smiles ditzy at Taehyung. He would've lectured his best friend to take it easy with the alcohol, but he has other pressing matters to discuss.

"Chim you won't believe what just happened." Taehyung says breathlessly, voice hoarse from screaming excitedly. He couldn't care less if other students in his dorm building will file a complaint, because at the moment he couldn't contain his happiness.

"I wouldn't know because I'm having the time of my life-" Jimin got cut off by his equally drunk boyfriend, an architecture student they befriended from one of the New Year parties held months ago, Min Yoongi.

Yoongi is nuzzling Jimin's neck affectionately, muttering a quiet "Hi Taehyung-ah" when he sees Taehyung on Jimin's phone screen. Taehyung would gush over his friends' softness but he needs to give the announcement first before he'd explode from bottled-up bliss.

"This is code red, hear me out!" He scolds his friend jokingly, with no malice lacing his voice.

Jimin shooed away Yoongi while he finds a secluded spot in the club. Taehyung sees Jimin sit down in one of the club's couches, away from the loudspeakers and groups of people. Jimin's face is more discernible now due to the brighter lights of the area he's in. "Okay okay, what's up?"

Taehyung takes a deep inhale and lets the words flow out of his mouth. "Jeon Kyungmi reached out to me for a collaboration."

That sobers Jimin up, he straightens his back while his eyes widen comically. "Huh?"

"Yes! A fucking collab!"

"Oh my god!"

"Oh my god!" Taehyung repeats Jimin's outburst.

Both of them were jumping out of joy, as ridiculous it may look to other people. Jimin's smile is beaming, his grin alone encompasses a lot of unsaid words.

"Taetae I'm so proud of you, does this mean you'll be famous and forget me now?" Jimin asks as he wipes an imaginary tear away. Taehyung can only laugh at his friend's dramatics.

"You know I could never." Taehyung winks at him.

"Okay, but when are you starting on the collab though?" Jimin asks swiftly.

A pause.

"Crap I haven't replied to them yet." As Taehyung says this, Jimin couldn't hold himself back from slapping his forehead.

"You buffoon! What are you waiting for? Don't leave them hanging." Jimin urges him. He makes his way back to Yoongi because he senses the call is about to end.

So Taehyung says a quick goodbye and closes the application. He opens his email to type a reply, an affirmation to be part of the project. He reviews the text he wrote to assure himself he typed everything right, and hits send.

After doing so, he shuts down his phone and decides to sleep all the jitters he's been feeling. He finds comfort in his freshly washed duvets, so sleep came to him instantly.

Tomorrow will be a good day, he'll claim it.

~

It was two weeks since Taehyung received an email that will most likely change his life. After receiving more details of when and where Taehyung should go for the collaboration, he's been lamenting on his own talents, afraid of the possibility his contributions to the JK Cosmetics partnership will be subpar. He wants to leave a good impression to the team and most importantly, to Jeon Kyungmi herself.

Jimin had been the sweetest friend, always hyping him up and constantly reminding him he was invited for a reason.

Taehyung tries to remember all the encouragement Jimin gave him; He's now standing in the middle of a sidewalk, panic slowly starting to creep up in his chest. He's on his way to the address included in the email and being tardy on his first day wasn't part of the plan. His hands are clammy while it fumbles with his phone, Naver maps illuminated on the small screen.

Several wrong turns later, he managed to see a huge building with the JK Cosmetics' logo brandishing it's front. He eased up for a little bit to collect himself, and power walked his way to the entrance.

The interior is sleek and minimalistic, as expected from a well-known makeup company. Everybody is dressed fashionably, sleek coats and clicking heels surrounding his vision. Taehyung is glad the first thing he got with his Youtube earnings was a designer shirt, saved for special occasions like this. The receptionist greets him with a polished smile, directing him to the elevator and instructed him to wait in a specific room for his appointed meeting.

Taehyung's palms start to sweat as the elevator passes each floor. He simultaneously wipes his hands on his pants while inspecting his reflection in the elevator mirror, double-checking if his makeup is still in good shape. He resists the urge to ruffle his hair out of uneasiness, not wanting to waste the time and effort of styling it earlier.

As he reaches the room he was directed to, he waits anxiously. He was, fortunately, five minutes early, so he has time to collect his bearings.

Or overthink every possibility that might happen, Taehyung involuntarily does the latter.

His inner musings were halted when the door opens and a small group of people comes in. He immediately stood up and bows to the three women, two of them looking like they're in their late twenties, both dressed in expensive-looking attire from head to toe.

The other one is a face Taehyung is all too familiar with. Like the other two women, the eldest is dressed in designer clothing from head to toe, only this time she exudes a more authoritative aura.

Taehyung is about to feel intimidated when the woman smiles a familiar smile, radiating the same comfort it gave him when he watched her videos. Despite her age, Jeon Kyungmi looks youthful, not much different from her internet persona. Her doe eyes alight with akin to a warm welcome. Just like that, all the uncertainty he felt earlier melted away.

"It's nice to finally meet you." Jeon Kyungmi said as she approaches him. Taehyung was about to extend his hand for a handshake when she pulled him in for a hug. He suddenly became conscious of how much perfume he spritzed on himself earlier that day, hoping he won't leave a bad impression on his role model.

"Likewise, it's an honor meeting you, Ms. Jeon." He said as earnestly as he can.

"No need to be so formal." She laughs wholeheartedly. Pointing at the two women she's with, Jeon Kyungmi introduces them with delight. "These two are my most trusted associates, Chaerin and Sooyoung. They will be assisting you throughout the whole process."

He recognizes Chaerin and Sooyoung from some of Kyungmi's videos. Taehyung bowed to them for the third time that day while both women smile at him.

"Now that the pleasantries are out of the way, let's discuss the collab now shall we?" Jeon Kyungmi says while leading the three of them to another meeting room. A projector was placed at the front, files placed in an organized manner on top of a table. Sizable windows surrounded the walls, displaying the high rise buildings Seoul has to offer.

Sitting on a chair parallel to Kyungmi's made Taehyung realize that this is happening. It never dawned on him before that the idea of working with Kyungmi can be palpable.

The meeting proceeds without a dawdle. First, they discussed what Taehyung's contract entails; basic information like how he's supposed to go to the office every Saturday, what is the scope of his participation for the collab, a timeline of how the project will go, and the like. Most of these were already indicated in the documents sent to him online, but he appreciates the quick rebriefing.

Next, Jeon Kyungmi proposed her ideas for the product’s main concept, an autumnal themed palette with shades varying in different colors and textures. Taehyung pitched in his ideas here and there, while also making mental notes on what the team is discussing as they go on.

It was all so overwhelming, but the doubts and worry Taehyung felt were replaced with excitement. He couldn't wait to see the finished output, seeing his ideas come to life is something that motivates him to give his all for this project.

"Let's take a break!" Kyungmi says as she claps her hands together, prompting the two associates to tidy up all the presentation materials on the table. "Sooyoung, please lead Taehyung to the pantry, let's meet again in an hour." Kyungmi says while she goes outside to take an important phone call.

Sooyoung waits for Taehyung by the door, smiling kindly as always. He follows her while she walks through winding hallways, Taehyung tries to commit the directions in his memory. Everywhere he looks, interesting art pieces littered his peripheral. He's here to work but being surrounded by his interests makes the place feel like home to Taehyung.

For a moment, the air is filled with the soft clacking of heels, but as they reach the pantry and Sooyoung opens the door, he is met with a spacious room and light chatter from some of the employees.

"If you need something, don't hesitate to approach me, I'll be at my office three doors from here." she says. Taehyung says a short thank you and watches her exit the room.

Taehyung eyes the selection of food, there's a booth that serves more filling meals and an area where snacks are placed in tables and cupboards. He's not that hungry, so he chooses the latter. He mindlessly picks cup noodles, a familiar brand he always gets during sleepless nights in his dorm; procrastinating over a project needed for one of his tougher subjects.

He eyes the water dispenser that is currently being occupied by a stranger, filling what seems to be like his sixth cup of ramen.

'What is this guy doing with six ramens?' Taehyung wonders to himself.

Since the guy is taking so long to put his cup noodles on a tray, Taehyung decides to get juice from one of the refilling stations. He accidentally fills the glass to the brim, so he tiptoes his way to a vacant table first.

With careful steps and eyes focused on his drink, Taehyung didn't notice the stranger from the earlier is going the same way as he is, noticing a little too late as their shoulders collide harshly. The tray jostles in the man's arms and one of the ramen cups slightly tipped over, spilling some broth onto the man's sleeves.

Taehyung is about to profusely apologize but he is taken aback by the man's expression. The guy's initial shock morphs into a grimace, and if looks could kill, Taehyung would be dead on the spot.

He locks eyes with Taehyung, almost as if he was scrutinizing the eyeshadow he had on his lids. Then his eyes cast down on Taehyung's nametag and upon reading the name, it prompted him to scoff. Taehyung's prior self-consciousness is washed away with confusion.

What.

The rude man then started to casually walk away from him, bringing his tray of ramen to who knows where. Taehyung is speechless. He wants to do something, anything, but his feet are stuck in its spot.

'What was his deal?' Taehyung is pretty sure he had never met this man in his life.

He tries to will his anger away, focusing on getting his own snack to keep himself occupied. It didn't work because he absentmindedly added too much hot water to his noodles, causing it to become soggy. That only added irritation to Taehyung's already foul mood.

He angrily slurps on his noodles while glaring at the door where the rude man exited from. It was his first day and someone was already out there sabotaging his plans of having a good time.

He tries to finish the rest of his meal. He notices some of the employees in nearby tables were glancing at him discreetly, and after the slight ruckus he made earlier with the stranger, he really couldn't blame them for staring.

After a few more minutes, Taehyung gets up to throw away his trash and makes his way back to Jeon Kyungmi's meeting room.

When he got there, Kyungmi is on her laptop, typing away in a focused manner. She glances at him with a small nod. Chaerin and Sooyoung are there too, busy with setting up the projector and adding new papers on the table.

When Kyungmi is finished with her document, she did a double-take with Taehyung's appearance. "What happened to you? You look like you've been through a war."

Taehyung thinks that might've been the case, recalling the uncomfortable events earlier in the pantry. He settles for a white lie anyway. "I might've over-eaten earlier." Taehyung says sheepishly.

Kyungmi doesn't look like she believes him, but she let it pass anyway. She then claps her hands, a habit Taehyung noticed, to start the second half of the meeting.

As usual, the meeting went smoothly. Taehyung gets more confident in speaking up. He's suggesting ideas and formulating concepts for the project excitably. He's getting into it, even making jokes with the team, pleased to see that even Kyungmi is laughing at his attempts.

That went on for a few more hours, and Taehyung feels productive and content. They tackled a lot of topics in such a short amount of time, but they still have a long way to go. Kyungmi asks him again if he can come to the office every Saturday for their weekly meetings and since his dorm is only a few minutes away, he assured her that it was no problem.

They were about to call it a day when someone suddenly opens the door.

Nothing could've prepared Taehyung at that moment. He wasn't expecting to see the man again but here he is, gaping like a fish when the rude stranger from earlier enters the room like he owned the place. Unlike earlier, the man isn't wearing his hoodie this time. He is wearing a white shirt that displayed a full sleeve of tattoos on one arm, Taehyung knows he's staring but he couldn't look away.

Of course, the timing had to be his enemy, because the man notices his staring. Taehyung had to look away when the man raised his brows. He can feel his cheeks redden, ultimately deciding the room didn't have enough air conditioning.

The man ignores Taehyung completely and directs his attention to Kyungmi. "Dad asked if we should go to that new pizza place downtown."
His voice is surprisingly pleasant. He's wondering why the man is being casual towards Kyungmi. More importantly, he wonders why they were talking about his dad.

Wait.

'It couldn't be.' Taehyung thinks with horror.

Taehyung is aware his mouth is gaping open. He barely registers the conversation the two were having because the cogwheels in his head are too busy connecting the dots together.

Kyungmi addresses him, snapping him out of his daze.

"Taehyung, this is my son, Jungkook." Jungkook bows to him politely, a huge difference in attitude compared to earlier's situation.

"Jungkook, this is Taehyung. He's the collaborator I'm talking about, a rising talent in the makeup industry." Kyungmi is smiling at him, unaware of the tension that is now blanketing the air.

Taehyung believes he was raised right by his parents so he also bows to Jungkook. When he looks up, he can see the disdain in Jungkook's eyes, but it was strategically sealed with a blinding smile from the boy.

"Nice to meet you, Taehyun." Jungkook smiles mockingly. Taehyung thinks he did that on purpose, so when Jungkook extends his hand for a handshake, Taehyung holds it tightly. Not hurtful, but enough to make the man uncomfortable.

"It's actually Taehyung, but it's nice to meet you too." Taehyung replies as he gives him his most charming smile. Two can play this game, he thinks.

"Jungkook here is also a new Youtuber like you, a gamer to be exact." Kyungmi says fondly.

"You may see him in the hallways every now and then, his office is located on the same floor, a few doors away from here. I hope you get to know each other well." Kyungmi continues as she continues to stay oblivious to Taehyung's dilemma.

Jungkook is unfazed by the situation, even smiling a cheeky smile.

Taehyung knew Jungkook doesn't have plans on befriending him, but he's not going to let the man dampen his spirits either.

He was here for one thing only; and that is to do his part for the collaboration. It was an opportunity given to him and Taehyung is not going to let anyone ruin that.

Not even the son of Jeon Kyungmi herself.

~

An array of brushes were placed on top of Taehyung's bed, along with a selection of palettes and makeup products. Soft music is playing in the background, with giggles erupting from Jimin's lips as Taehyung chooses yet another wrong color for his eyelids.

He was helping Jimin with his makeup, his best friend requesting to give him a bold look. He's meeting Yoongi in few hours for another date night, becoming more frequent now that both of them have a lot of free time.

"Don't you get tired of each other?" Taehyung says jokingly, maybe a hint of curiosity. Jimin just smiles wistfully, a look Taehyung recognizes whenever Jimin is about to have declarations of love and adoration for the architecture student. He stood up straight, despite Taehyung's protests on not to move.

"We just click you know?" And when Taehyung is waiting for him to elaborate, he continues, "We understand each other so well even if we don't voice out our feelings. He gets rid of the self-doubts I'm having before it turns into something worse." Jimin's voice turns into a hushed whisper, fingers nervously playing with the loose strands of his sweater.

Taehyung knew Jimin for a long time, knows how the boy can be an overthinker. He's glad Jimin found someone that brings out the best in him, someone he can trust his best friend with.

"We're- we're good for each other Tae, I like him so much." Jimin finishes shyly.

"I'm happy for you Chim, you deserve to be happy." Taehyung beams at him. He truly meant his words.

There were a few seconds of silence. Taehyung adds finishing touches to Jimin's face, brushing highlighter on the boy's cheekbones and a little bit on the tip of his nose. It was a comfortable silence until Jimin's expression warped into something teasing.

"Enough about me, how about you? You deserve happiness too, maybe tattoo boy can help with that."

Taehyung badly wants to wipe off the smirk on Jimin's face, resisting the urge to ruin the freshly applied makeup he worked hard for.

Jimin continues, "Funny how the defining feature you recalled was his tattoos, I remember you said you have a thing for tattoos-"

"Don't even start." He says with a huff. It has been a week since he met Jeon Kyungmi, also a week since he met her insufferable son, Jungkook. It was a Friday, meaning he'd be going to the Jeons' building again tomorrow for his weekly meeting. He's mostly excited, of course, but he's also partly dreading the possibility of bumping into Jungkook again.

"He doesn't seem that bad. You should talk to him more." Jimin pushes the topic further.

"You should've seen his face when he scoffed at me Jimin. Scoffed." Taehyung exclaimed irritably. "I don't even know him, yet he's starting one-sided beef with me." As he continues his rant, he nudges Jimin away from his bed so he can properly tidy up the products they used.

"You'll never find out the reason for his pettiness if you ignore him completely." Jimin reasons out. Taehyung knew he was right, but he figures he doesn't have the energy to be the bigger person.

"I don't care what he thinks, I'm here to make a name and to collect my coins." Taehyung says while rubbing the tips of his fingers together. Jimin throws a pillow at him before getting out.

"You do you. While you wallow in your boy problems, I'll be on my way to make out with Yoongi." Jimin says by the door, blowing a kiss to Taehyung's way.

Before the blonde-haired boy exits the dorm completely, Taehyung shouts, "Don't let my masterpiece go to waste!"

Jimin replies with a half-baked "goodbye!". and then the dorm is filled with silence again. Taehyung is about to get ready for bed when Jimin's prior teasing start to fill his mind.

He doesn't know why it bothers him so much, doesn't know why Jungkook managed to get under his skin this badly, so Taehyung tries to will away his overthinking by being productive. He opens his YouTube account to see what his subscribers want him to film next. He also opened his Notes app to write down the ideas that intrigued him.

Being productive didn't last long. His thumb is starting to get tired of copy and pasting comments, eyes getting jittery from reading a hundred comments by now.

He decides to take a break by watching Jeon Kyungmi's new upload, a video of her showcasing her favorite products at the moment. 'Strained eyes be damned.' Taehyung thinks.

Like a routine, Taehyung starts to relax as he hits the play button. The room is now filled with her gentle voice, describing the products she has on her hands; a cleanser that apparently did wonders for her skin. Taehyung took a mental note to try that out next time after his current one runs out.

The video is finished before he knows it so he scrolls through the recommended videos. He's about to click an older video of Kyungmi when a name catches his attention.

"GCF Daily" it reads. The username isn't the only one that caught his eye, but also the thumbnail. Edited in an Overwatch gameplay through a green screen was Jeon Jungkook, laughing in a way that displays his bunny-like teeth.

'So he can smile.' Taehyung thought bitterly.

It was the same Jeon Jungkook that was a nuisance to him days ago. The same man that hated him for merely existing.

So Taehyung doesn't know why his cursor is hovering over the video. For the past couple of days, the idea of searching Jungkook's YouTube account never crossed his mind, mainly because he couldn't be bothered to search about people that were rude to him for no valid reason.

'So why now?' Taehyung questions his sudden curiosity. He shifts the blame to Jimin for planting the idea in his head.

Several seconds of self-conflict, he decides to play the video to get it over with. He manages to convince himself it is for getting to know the enemy, nothing else.

The video starts with Jungkook greeting his viewers, dressed in another black hoodie. Taehyung wonders if the man only wears hoodies. He then explains he was doing an Overwatch Commentary, as stated by the video's title.

The screen shows his main, Widowmaker, strategically placed on a high ledge. When the game starts, Jungkook managed to get a headshot already. Since Widowmaker was placed in a high spot, others were attacking him from below, but Jungkook managed to avert almost all of the attacks. Taehyung is lying if he says he isn't impressed.

When he does get hit though, Taehyung notices Jungkook scrunch his nose out of frustration. It was amusing to see, a huge difference from the presumptuous man he met.

His face lights up with joy whenever he does something thrilling. Taehyung only notices then the resemblance between him and Kyungmi, especially with the eyes. It's still unbelievable for him to envision Jungkook and Kyungmi are related; let alone Jungkook being Kyungmi's only son.

He watches Jungkook on the screen again, doing a small victory dance when his team wins on the first round. The video is fifty minutes long but Taehyung reaches a decision to watch the full video.

He is starting to watch Jungkook's reaction rather than the gameplay itself. He catches himself control a chortle when Jungkook made a decent joke. His snide comments were engrossing too and Taehyung now understands why the man has a huge following.

When the video is over, it was only then Taehyung realizes the fact he enjoyed watching it.

Jimin's words from earlier reappeared. He decidedly ignores it.

He turns off his phone and decides to get ready for bed instead, already forgetting his original task of noting comments. He is hoping the feeling of being depleted can be relieved with sleep. He needs to get up early for tomorrow too, so he tries to look forward to the prospects tomorrow will bring.

When he's fast asleep, his consciousness dreams of various things. However, the only thing Taehyung remembers from it when he awakes the next day are recognizable eyes.

~

It was another day in the Jeons' offices, and Taehyung is delighted for the task they have on hand; swatching eyeshadows.

Kyungmi wasn't with them today, Chaerin explaining the woman attended a business meeting overseas. The two associates facilitates the task they have with finesse, as expected from Kyungmi's colleagues.

When Sooyoung presents the palettes made from previous batches, Taehyung's eyes lit up like a sun. Most of the palettes, if not all, are familiar to Taehyung. There are some pieces he doesn't quite recognize, only to find out from Chaerin and Sooyoung that those palettes are the ones that were either discontinued or a prototype.

Taehyung is jubilant to test everything either way. He was asked to swatch pre-existing colors that he might want to be included in the collection.

In the previous meeting, since the collection is expected to be released by October, Taehyung wants to have a cozy palette that has a hint of fantasy elements. He's been browsing online for inspirations, wanting his palette to be unique but still practical for everyday use. Shades of browns and reds start to litter the back of his hand.

In the midst of writing down the shades he wants to be included, Taehyung felt thirsty. The whole commute on his way to the office was like a marathon, finding himself getting caught in the middle of rush hour in the subway. Making up his mind to get a drink, he excuses himself to the two women, both typing away on their laptops.

On his way to the pantry, Taehyung can't help but admire the well-designed hallways, thinking to himself for the nth time that week on how lucky he is to be here. There is a specific piece on the wall he likes, a photograph of a man gazing by the sea. It was a simple piece but whenever Taehyung looks at it, he feels pacified.

Once he moves on from the artwork and gets to the pantry, he goes straight to the fridge and gets himself a bottle of strawberry milk. He was about to exit when his eyes caught a glimpse of the ramen selections.

He hates how he associates ramen with a certain tattoed boy.

If Taehyung is being honest with himself, he wishes he'd never come across into Jungkook again. So far he hasn't seen the man for today and Taehyung prays to his angels it'll stay like that for the rest of his stay.

He tries to suppress the memories from last night, an image of a happy Jungkook comes into view in his head.

For the remainder of the day, Taehyung feels restless. The workload itself wasn't the cause of his tiredness, even finds it a good distraction. But every time the door opens, or a male voice calls out to Chaerin or Sooyoung, Taehyung slightly jumps from his seat, mentally preparing himself to face whatever Jungkook might throw at him. Each time it ended up being somebody else, an employee asking inquiries to the two associates, or an intern submitting a file.

And each time he sees its a different person, Taehyung feels relief. He doesn't want to acknowledge the slight disappointment hitting his gut, assumes it is the competitive side of him wanting to confront Jungkook and give him a piece of his mind.

His thoughts were halted as Chaerin repeatedly mentions his name, informing him they were done for the day. Hours passed by like seconds and Taehyung doesn't know if he feels happy the day is over, or feel discontent; because he did enjoy swatching and testing out new colors. He gave Chaerin his notes, indicating different shades that might make it to the final palette. He helps them out clear the table and once he's done, he waves goodbye at the two women.

Once he gets out of the elevator, he hears a distant pitter-patter, only to see droplets of rain hitting the clear windows of the building's main lobby. Taehyung curses, he didn't figure it might rain today, plus an umbrella wouldn't fit in the bag he always brings.

He could call an Uber, but the stingy part of him wants to risk it and go for the subway located a few blocks away instead. With extra workload from both the collaboration and university, Taehyung figures he should save for a high-end laptop.

He's eyeing the outside world, already plotting which way to go to, picking an efficient shortcut that'll provide him enough shade when he runs in the rain. He's about to open the cold door handles when a figure from his left catches his eye.

He thought he'd be able to leave the office unscathed, but there he is, in his hoodied glory, standing to his left was Jeon Jungkook. Taehyung's breath hitched, and the sound might've alerted Jungkook with his presence.

He's holding an umbrella in his hand, a huge camera case on the other. He looks like a bootleg version of Bob the Builder in Taehyung's opinion, so he's tempted to ask Jungkook if he's on his way to fix something when he remembers his own umbrella-less state.

This time it is Jungkook that looks at him with amusement, although it vanishes as quickly as it appeared. He reaches for the door and side-eyes Taehyung as he goes outside.

One Uber ride won't hurt his savings, but there is something about Jungkook that sets off his competitiveness. The side-eye he was given was a challenge, Taehyung was sure of that.

As an act of defiance, he opens the doors and felt the cold from the rain hit him immediately. He catches Jungkook not too far away from him, so he struts his way to the boy, careful enough to go to the shaded areas.

When he reaches Jungkook's line of sight, Jungkook did a double-take.

'I don't need a stupid umbrella to go home.' Taehyung thinks pettily. He doesn't know why he needs to prove a point to the man, or what point he's trying to make to begin with, but all he knows is he wants Jungkook to be aware he isn't backing out from whatever it is they have going on.

That went on for several seconds, Taehyung almost feeling triumphant, until they both turn a sidewalk. As Taehyung looks up, he sees no shaded areas that'll allow him to reach the station dry. He'd have to run in the open area if he wants to get home.

He can just reside in a nearby cafe and wait until the rain passes, but he has unfinished homework due in a few hours, he couldn't risk it.

Jungkook is peering at him, pompousness in his eyes that Taehyung couldn't ignore. Taehyung decides this whole ordeal has been juvenile and senseless, already making his way to a cafe when Jungkook breaks the silence.

"What kind of moron doesn't bring an umbrella during June?"

And Taehyung should be offended by that, but the first instinct he had was to defend himself. "It was sunny the whole week you ass."

"Keyword: was. Should've checked the weather reports then." He's about to leave when Taehyung held onto his sleeve, the same sleeve that got stained with ramen broth a few days ago. "Wait." Taehyung figures since they're already talking, he might as well benefit something out of it.

"What now?" Jungkook huffs irritably.

"I know you don't like me-" Jungkook scoffs at that. "-but can you please lend me your umbrella? I just need to get to the station."

He watches Jungkook debate with himself. Did he detest him that much to the point it takes him so long to decide? Taehyung didn't even request for anything out of the ordinary.

"You know what, forget it-"

"Hurry up before I change my mind." Jungkook says as he raises the umbrella to give space for Taehyung. There is a constipated look in his face that Taehyung wants to point out, but he figured he shouldn't test the man any further.

He skips almost happily next to Jungkook, a subtle warmth now engulfing his sides due to the shared body heat. As soon as he settles beside him, Jungkook starts to walk with huge steps.

"Can you slow down, damn." Taehyung complained but Jungkook paid him no attention. Taehyung continues to talk anyway, "Why are you even commuting? Don't you rich kids drive a BMW or something?"

"I drive a Mercedes actually, what's it to you anyway?" Jungkook replies monotonously. His eyes suddenly flitted to Taehyung's bag. "More importantly, are umbrellas too uncool for Prada now?"

"This is a Gucci household."

“Huh. Can afford a Gucci but not an umbrella.”

Taehyung’s eyes twitch as Jungkook berates him for his choices. Worried for his own state of dryness, Taehyung decides to drop the topic, fearing Jungkook might leave him alone then and there in the middle of the streets.

A few seconds passed, a deafening silence engulfed them, save for the sound of rain. They do manage to reach the station without another squabble. Taehyung faces Jungkook with uncertainty, having difficulty in formulating words, but he managed to voice them out. “Thank you for the umbrella, I guess.”

There is that look again, Jungkook’s features morph into nonchalance.

Taehyung doesn’t know why, but he was hoping he’d see a glimpse of the Jungkook from the video he's seen, the Jungkook that has emotions not limited to his blatant dislike for Taehyung.

When Jungkook made it clear he isn’t even going to say a “You’re Welcome.” Taehyung turns around to leave. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but he feels unsatisfied. He decides to forget anything that has to do with Jeon Jungkook and tries to think about his assignment instead. He walks away to reload his subway card, the exhaustion this day gave finally dawns on him.

While waiting for the train, he hears familiar footsteps looming behind his back. He catches a glimpse of a figure from his peripheral vision. The subway was relatively empty due to the sudden rain, so he looks back to see who it might be.

His suspicions were confirmed when he sees Jungkook typing away on his phone, pretending like Taehyung wasn’t there. He clears his throat to catch the other man’s attention, and when Jungkook lifts his eyes to meet Taehyung’s, he quirked an eyebrow.

“I can hear your stompers from a mile away,” -Jungkook looks at said stompers. “-but why are you following me?”

Jungkook processes the question for a moment, then when he realized what Taehyung was implying, he did his signature scoff. “Don’t flatter yourself, we’re going the same way home.”

That prompted Taehyung to blush, his cheeks heating up due to embarrassment. He shouldn’t have assumed, but Jungkook’s silence from earlier made him think he wanted to part ways from there.

When the train doors opened, Taehyung is glad the train was spacious, save for a few high school students seated a few meters away from him. He watches Jungkook take a seat at the far end of the train. Jungkook turns off his phone, puts it in his front pocket, and proceeds to take a nap.

It is Taehyung’s turn to take out his phone, he sees several messages from Jimin about taco night, emails from Chaerin and Sooyoung regarding the reports for today’s task, and one missed call from his internet provider, probably another proposal for an upgrade.

For a rising Youtuber, Taehyung noticed his recent routine was a bit lackluster. As much as he wants to join the occasional mixers and hangout invitations from his friends, the collaboration was his top priority right now, figuring if he played his cards right, it’ll bring him more opportunities in the future. Not that he’s complaining about his current circumstances though. He is more than grateful to be part of the collaboration; it was one of his main dreams after all.

After telling Jimin his order for taco night, aka Chipotle takeout, and thanking Chaerin and Sooyoung for the report updates, he opens his Twitter account to kill time. After passing a tunnel, Taehyung sees through the subway windows that the rain shifted into a light drizzle, the clouds making way for the sunset’s vibrant colors.

It was a comfortable quiet, the soft pitter-patter of the raindrops hitting the glass windows accompanied the merry laughter of the students. At some point, Taehyung got tired of scrolling through his phone and decides to watch the scenery from outside instead.

Its a blur of buildings, a sliver of sky peeking in between skyscrapers. The vibrant orange from earlier muted down into a soft gradient, shades of pinks and purples were added to the mix. After a stressful day, the calming scenery was something Taehyung’s heart needed.

As he admires the outside world, in the midst of it, his attention was slowly diverting to Jungkook. The man has his arms crossed, head leaning to the side in a position Taehyung finds uncomfortable. The serene expression on Jungkook’s face says otherwise though. His chest is slightly rising up and down with even breaths, eyebrows twitching whenever the train doors open for each stop.

Taehyung took his time analyzing the man’s face, comparing it to when he’s awake. It was a stark difference from the Jungkook he talks with; the lines from his forehead whenever he frowns disappeared, the constant tug of his lips whenever he scoffs transformed into a subtle pout. He almost fooled Taehyung that he’s innocent, but Taehyung knew better.

The way they met was bizarre, to say the least. Taehyung personally thinks he’s a good man, always a friendly face people can rely on. He doesn’t recall a time in his life where he purposely started conflict just for the sake of it. Bottom line is, as narcissistic it may sound, Taehyung dares to say that he’s a likable individual.

Accidentally making ramen spill on Jungkook’s hoodie, on their first meeting, can’t be the only reason why the man dislikes him so much. Taehyung doesn’t know what it is, but he is bound to find it out.

So when the intercom announced the train’s arrival to his station, upon going out, he looks back to see Jungkook’s sleeping figure. Through the small glass doors, he sees Jungkook’s face illuminated with subtle purple light from the sunset.

And maybe, something tugs Taehyung’s heart-strings, a slight longing to get to know the man’s reasons, a longing to know him more.

Several weeks have passed, and nothing much changed between Taehyung and Jungkook. After the 'rain incident', as Jimin likes to call it, Taehyung was expectant they’d move past the disdainful scoffs and hateful glares, leaning more towards ‘civil interactions’. He was proven wrong.

A few days ago, he was running late due to the usual train rush hours, so every second counts. He was running towards the open elevator doors when he sees a groggy-looking Jungkook. He silently prayed Jungkook would keep the elevator open for him, but the ‘piece of shit’, Taehyung’s words, rolled his eyes before closing the elevator doors, leaving Taehyung gaping at nothing.

But even if things with Jungkook are far from going well, everything about the collaboration is going spectacularly good. With an initial concept taking place, Taehyung is set to have a photoshoot today portraying said concept. He’s currently in his costume, a frilly white blouse with intricate patterns adorning the front. His previous brown hair was dyed into a light ombre of pinks and oranges. Fake flowers are placed effortlessly in the strands of his hair.

Surprisingly, his make up is done by Jeon Kyungmi herself. He's expecting another makeup artist from the team would do it, but Kyungmi wanted to do Taehyung’s makeup, saying she needed a break from all the business meetings and go back to her roots. Taehyung is about to cry then and there, for it is an honor to have his makeup done by Kyungmi.

She didn’t waste any time as she starts picking up brushes and eyeshadows to use. Her touches are feather-like, careful not to hurt Taehyung, or make him uncomfortable. He is hoping Kyungmi will do his makeup again for future photoshoots, for the shoot scheduled for today was more for the aesthetic part of the collaboration, like teaser photos and banners for the website.

Photo sets and videos in the future will highlight the actual product more once it gets finalized, and Taehyung is more than happy to dress up for all of it.

Before he knows it, Kyungmi is finished with his makeup. She encourages him to take a look at the mirror, so Taehyung stood up and anticipatingly looks at his reflection.

Now, Taehyung knows all too well he’s a conventionally attractive person, but he is still floored by his reflection. The colors Kyungmi chose for his look was pretty neutral, nothing too bold, but it still highlighted his features beautifully.

The makeup complemented his attire, and he feels whimsical overall. He is practically glowing, so he thanked Kyungmi for doing a magnificent job with his look. He is now looking forward to the photoshoot more, excitement thrumming in his veins.

He was told to sit for now, because they are still waiting for the photographer to arrive. He takes several selcas and sends it to Jimin, his friend hyping him up through the chat. He was in the midst of doing a dramatic pose when he overhears Sooyoung sounding distressed over the phone. He says goodbye to Jimin and turns off his phone to properly listen because it looked serious.

When Sooyoung is done with the phone call, he looks at Taehyung and Kyungmi regretfully. “Mr. Chan won’t be able to make it today, he had a personal emergency.”

Disappointment starts to make its way up to Taehyung’s chest. “Can we contact other photographers?” He says with a hint of hope.

“Unfortunately, other photographers the company is in contact with are all busy, Mr. Chan was the only one available this weekend.” Sooyoung replies.

“This won’t do, we need to do this photoshoot today, rescheduling it will cause delays with the project plans.” Kyungmi says stressfully. Her face transforms into surprise as an idea popped in her head. Taehyung is curious about what her suggestion might be.

"But maybe we can do something about it, wait I'll call him." She says while abruptly leaving the room. Chaerin and Sooyoung seemed to understand her statement, for they start to give instructions to the interns to double-check the props in the set.

When Kyungmi comes back to the room a few minutes later, she is smiling brightly. Taehyung immediately notices she brought someone else with her. He starts to feel panic because alongside Kyungmi, is Jungkook, scratching the back of his neck awkwardly as he scans the room.

"Jungkook here is actually a photography major! He's luckily free today, so he can help us out." Kyungmi smiles proudly. Jungkook, after scanning the room, made eye contact with Taehyung. His eyes widen for a bit, but it reverted back to normal just as fast.

Taehyung swore he saw a tint of redness in the man's cheeks, but maybe he was imagining it.

After processing the fact that Jungkook is indeed joining their photoshoot today, Taehyung begrudgingly accepts his fate. They don't have a choice. Either way, Jungkook is their best bet. He's starting to worry about the events that might transpire later because posing for his enemy wasn't part of his to-do list for today.

Jungkook's hand holds a camera bag, the same one he brought during the rain incident. He didn't waste any time as he starts to set up his tripod and fiddles with the set's lighting equipment. He is wearing a white shirt again, showcasing his tatted up arms, hands skillfully moving like it was muscle memory. Taehyung is still in his seat as he watches it all.

He catches himself staring openly, so he stops his ministrations and focuses on a more important question; 'Does he not have a problem with any of this?' he thinks.

Jungkook then moves on to the props, ordering interns to arrange things that are out of place. One of the interns looks like he's about to pass out, and Taehyung couldn't blame him because Jungkook in his element can be very intimidating.

Several minutes passed by, Jungkook goes to Kyungmi to say something. Kyungmi then proceeds to tell the team that the set is ready. She looks at Taehyung, urging him to come forward.

"I already told Jungkook beforehand the concept we're going for, he'll direct you on what to do." Kyungmi says excitedly, again, unaware of the uneasiness coming off of Taehyung in waves. She then urges him to stand in front of the backdrop, surrounded by fake props like synthetic peach trees and flower vines.

He's awkwardly waiting for a signal, hands fidgeting against the soft material of his sleeves. Jungkook notices this, so he rolls his eyes at Taehyung and speaks. "Start by posing with the vines, use them however you want."

And Taehyung does what he's told, holding the vines in his fingertips, he coils it around himself. The plasticky feeling against his skin is uncomfortable, but he is more nervous to make eye contact with the camera, knowing full well Jungkook is behind it. He takes a deep breath and tries to pose.

There was a brief moment of silence, but as soon as the shutter sound resonates through the air, Taehyung exhales a breath he's been holding. That went surprisingly normal.

They took a few more shots with the vines, poses varying each time. Jungkook works fast too, leaving little to no room for Taehyung to rest in between takes.

The nervousness Taehyung felt earlier mellowed down into something more neutral. He didn't know why he made such a big fuss about working with Jungkook, seeing that the process they're doing now seems so normal.

A little too normal for Taehyung's liking. It's been several minutes, and they moved past the vines and onto the peach trees. Jungkook is directing him to do similar actions from earlier, and if Taehyung is being honest, he was expecting a little more variety for this shoot.

After a quick debate with himself, he decides to intervene and voices out his suggestions. Before Jungkook can click his camera, Taehyung holds his hands up, signaling for Jungkook to pause.

"I know you do this frequently and the photos will most likely turn out great-" Taehyung starts, trying to analyze Jungkook's reaction. "But maybe we can change the angles and lighting a little? Just a suggestion." His voice drops by the end, thinking that maybe he overstepped. Jungkook does study photography for a degree, who was he to make suggestions?

Jungkook's face looks blank for a second, but then it contorts into an expression with masked irritation, the twitching eyebrows were enough indication. He did do what Taehyung suggested though, hands fiddling with the lighting and walking to a spot nearer to Taehyung.

Taehyung was about to say his thanks when he heard Jungkook mutter under his breath. "You beauty gurus and your fucking demands."

Taehyung felt like a bucket of cold water was poured over his head. He was afraid his suggestion might rub Jungkook off the wrong way, but the man's side comments are definitely uncalled for.

"What does being a beauty guru have got to do with it?" Taehyung asks indignantly, he was about to press the matter further when it clicks.

Suddenly, things made sense.

"Is this what all of this about? You have something against beauty gurus?" Taehyung continues. It was said in an accusatory tone, but what else is he supposed to think, considering most of the dislike Jungkook had for him was baseless.

"If I say yes, what will you do?" Jungkook asks challengingly.

That set something off inside Taehyung. He wants to continue his rant when Jungkook interrupts him before he can even open his mouth. "Let's just get this over with."

Everybody else around them didn't notice the exchange, most of them are on their laptops or phones, some are having a conversation with one another. Taehyung didn't know if he was glad to be saved from the embarrassment, or be disappointed because he wanted people, most especially Kyungmi, to see how distasteful her son is acting.

It's suffocating to be in the same presence as Jungkook. He wouldn't say being a Youtuber, a beauty guru no less, defined his overall being. Taehyung believes he has different personas to him and being a beauty guru is only one of them.

Nonetheless, it is still something he's passionate about, something he puts a lot of time and effort into. Being a beauty guru put him into college, it brings food to the table, it gave him purpose. So for Jungkook to hate on that for no absolute reason gave Taehyung a whiplash. The man didn't even deny it.

He tries to even out his breathing and poses for the camera. Granted, Jungkook did follow his advice, but it didn't do much to rid of Taehyung's bitter mood. He was moving on autopilot, actions a bit robotic but he tries his best to not let it show in the pictures.

The rest of the afternoon went by pretty slow, Taehyung's initial excitement dampened akin to dread. He is counting every minute that passed by, wanting this whole ordeal to be over. Kyungmi is paying attention to them now, laptop set aside so she can monitor how the photoshoot is going. By her compliments, Taehyung thinks he masked the negative feelings pretty well.

The photoshoot did end, much to Taehyung's relief. The rest of the team gathers together to see the photos. Taehyung feels Jungkook's presence beside him. Despite the familiar warmth the man's body heat gave, Taehyung feels awfully cold.

He transfers the photos onto a laptop. When he opens the files and navigates through the different shots, Taehyung is taken aback on how good the pictures looked. He knew Jungkook was good, but not to this extent. Both Taehyung and Jungkook are praised for doing a job well done.

Kyungmi hugs Jungkook and thanks him profusely, but as soon as she lets go, he excuses himself and left the room.

Even with his presence gone, Taehyung's chest still feels heavy. The team started to clean up the set, backdrops and props put back in their rightful place, but Taehyung's feet are stuck in its position.

He finally got some answers, but it wasn't enough. There is a sinking realization, maybe that is all there is to it, and Taehyung doesn't know how to deal with that.

“Meet Kim Seokjin, he’s the company’s most trusted event organizer.” Kyungmi introduces a man in his late twenties, broad shoulders and a face suited for the runway. Said Kim Seokjin bows politely and Taehyung does the same.

The next task in their agenda is to plan meet and greets and brand launches for the collaboration. Seokjin is the right guy for the job, and Taehyung is delighted to see a familiar face. Kim Seokjin, aside from his day job, is a fellow artist like himself. He’s a huge fan of Seokjin’s art process videos on Youtube, always admiring the man’s detailed work and color schemes.

“I’m a huge fan of your works.” Taehyung says bashfully, making Seokjin laugh wholeheartedly.

“Thank you very much, I also love your videos.” Seokjin says with sureness in his voice. Taehyung decides he likes Seokjin, despite only meeting him for a few seconds.

The meeting is different from their usual ones. Seokjin is talkative in a way that it captivates the people around him, a charming soul that makes everybody in the room gravitate towards his presence. Even Chaerin and Sooyoung, who are mostly typing documents and only speaks when necessary, are getting invested in the conversations.

But even with his fun and pleasing personality, Seokjin maintains professionalism. The infographics he made reflected his distinct art style, while also containing all the necessary information Taehyung needed to prepare for future meet and greets. If ever, it’ll be the first time he’s going to meet his viewers, and he doesn’t want to let them down.

Seokjin gives him advice on how to present himself and his palette when the time comes. But he also emphasized that it’s important to be himself. “I’ve seen your videos and how your viewers already love your vibe. Keep that energy for the project launches and you should be fine.”

Taehyung takes note of that. He may experience difficulties though. It is one thing to talk to a camera set up in the comforts of his own room, its another to meet hundreds of people without a computer screen protecting him.

“You will be fine, trust me I’m always right.” Seokjin says with a wink upon noticing his inner turmoil.

The day goes on, break time passes, and the meeting continues, Taehyung is getting confused with event planning jargon thrown his way, but Seokjin clarifies everything to Taehyung. It's a little overwhelming for him, but he managed to finish the meeting with new-found learnings and determination.

He packs his notes into his bag and says goodbye to the team. Before he can leave the meeting room, Seokjin stops him from leaving, hands gently tugging on his sleeves.

"Sorry about that-" Seokjin chuckles nervously. "But is that a Princess Peach pin I see on your bag?"

Normally, Taehyung would be shy to talk about his Nintendo games obsession, but upon seeing the sparkle in Seokjin's eyes, he instantly knew that the man was also a fan.

"Why yes, yes it is." Taehyung says fondly. "I got it from a reseller, it was originally sold at Comic Con."

"No way, you're saying that’s one of the limited edition ones they had last year?" Seokjin's eyes are now comically wide, mouth gaped open as he inspects the pin further. "Can I touch it?"

When Taehyung says yes, the mirth in Seokjin's face is irreplaceable, then proceeds to delicately touch the pin.

"I have the limited edition Mario Kart 8, wanna play it sometime?" Seokjin asks absent-mindedly, eyes still fixating on the pin.

"Are you kidding? Of course!" Taehyung exclaims. "I was gonna get that but it went out of stock before I got my hands on it."

"I have a friend in Gamestop that can give us new releases." Seokjin says with a wink.

From then on, they started to talk about all kinds of games they play; From mobile games to console preferences, they talked about it all. There was a point where they had a light argument on which Zelda game is the best, but all was good.

Then the topic shifted into FPS games. The first thought that came up to Taehyung's mind was Jungkook playing Overwatch, but he would never admit that to himself.

"The day is still early, we can play several rounds in the game room?" Seokjin asks him, already going to the hallway in which Taehyung assumes contained the game room. Taehyung couldn't say no, it's been a while since he last played a proper game due to the collaboration, so he is more than excited to play with Seokjin.

Seokjin leads the way. Taehyung rarely goes to this area of the floor, doesn't really have a chance to explore because the rooms he always frequents in, such as meeting rooms and pantries, are located on the opposite side.

~

So it wasn't his intention to find himself in front of Jungkook's office, a shiny gold plate embellished on the door; 'GCF DAILY' it reads. Taehyung assumed Seokjin was talking about a different room, not the room of the man he's trying to avoid.

"I think Kyungmi already told you about Jungkook?" -Taehyung nods defeatedly. "He has a dope setup, so I really like playing in his office. I hope you don't mind!" Seokjin says with a smile, cheeks protruding endearingly.

Taehyung wants to scream that yes, he does mind, he minds a lot if he's being honest. He lets Seokjin knock on the door otherwise, not wanting to feel guilt if he declines what Seokjin wants. With bated breath, Taehyung waits for Jungkook to answer the door.

Several seconds later, quiet footsteps slowly approach the door and when it opens, it reveals a disheveled Jungkook.

Only this time, he wasn't wearing his usual hoodie or white shirt, he's wearing a black tank top that fitted him nicely, defined muscles being accentuated with the tight fabric. Taehyung would be lying if he says he doesn't find Jungkook at least mildly attractive right now.

Jungkook's eyes were sleepy, but it immediately widens when he realizes Taehyung is at his doorstep. He chooses to ignore him and only acknowledge Seokjin's presence. "What do you want hyung?"

Seokjin, unaware of their quarrel, walks right into Jungkook's office. Taehyung follows after him sheepishly, avoiding Jungkook's stare as he passes him by.

The office isn't what Taehyung expected at all. The walls were painted in pristine white, the furniture looking normal too. He was kind of expecting Jungkook's office to be bathed in neon lights and all-black furniture, similar to the vlogs of other streamers he has seen.

One thing that stood out in his room was his PC set up. Taehyung could recognize the very expensive brands that will likely cost him his monthly earnings if he dares buy one. The monitor is open, showing a paused game of Overwatch, indicating that Jungkook was already playing before they arrived.

"Taehyungie and I were talking about playing before he goes home, hope you don't mind." Seokjin uses that persuasive voice again, the same one he used on Taehyung to convince him to play.

He's already holding the mouse when Jungkook swats his hand away.

"I do mind." Jungkook says flatly. Taehyung feels his eyes twitch, so much for feeling welcomed.

"Why are you so disrespectful?" Seokjin whines, ignoring Jungkook's warning and continues to play with his eyes on the screen.

"I was planning to stream after this gameplay, hyung."

"Your viewers can wait, I can't. I only come here once in a blue moon so at least pretend I'm the Easter bunny or something."

Jungkook can only sigh into his palm when he realizes Seokjin isn't going anywhere. The man exits out of his current game while setting up a new one, a multi-player round for two teams.

"Get your spare laptops Gukkie, because I will teach Taehyungie how to play." Seokjin says smugly.

"Wow, and I thought you were likable." Taehyung says while sticking his tongue out childishly at Seokjin, the latter doing the same thing to him. Jungkook watches them silently and sighs again as he looks for spare laptops.

A few moments later, Jungkook is holding out a laptop to him. He doesn't quite process that Jungkook wants him to take it so the latter snaps. "What are you gawking about, just take it."

Taehyung, still confused as ever, asks him why. He didn't think Jungkook would actually allow him to stay in his safe space, considering the last time they talked, it didn't exactly go well.

"What do you mean why? Why are you even here if you're not going to play?" Jungkook begrudgingly replies. His tone made Taehyung feel irritated, so he swiftly takes the laptop away from Jungkook, not caring if he might accidentally break it. It is an expensive gaming laptop too, but Taehyung couldn't care less at the moment.

Seokjin eyes the two of them warily. "Who put a stick up in your asses?"

They ignore Seokjin's comment and proceed to open the game. Jungkook is on a laptop too, since Seokjin made it clear earlier that he's playing on the main PC.

"Alright younglings, I will end both of you so hold onto your seatbelts."

"We're not in a car hyung."

"I said, hold onto your seatbelts."

And Seokjin didn't lie. He's a really skilled player. When the game started, he immediately had three kills, and Taehyung was one of them. He didn't think he'd respawned so early in the game, but Taehyung isn't backing down from the challenge. He went on a high ledge, planning to take Seokjin down, but before he can do so, someone took his kill away. Said character was Jungkook’s.

They were on the same team, while Seokjin is on the enemy team. Even so, Taehyung wants to kill his own teammate for the sake of it.

He sees Jungkook snicker beside him, proud of himself for shooting Seokjin first. Taehyung, being the sore loser that he is, won’t allow Jungkook to take all the glory.

His kill count start to rise, he's determined to dish out payback to the enemy team, Seokjin specifically, while also being resolute to have a higher kill count than Jungkook. They were neck on neck, and while Taehyung disapproves of Jungkook with all of his being right now, he is kind of surprised he can match a pro gamer’s skill.

Several moments later, Taehyung and Jungkook’s team reach one hundred percent completion with their capture point, thus winning the game. Both men were elated, suddenly facing each other in perfect sync, a happy smile in their faces. When they realize their actions, they both looked away with sheepish expressions.

Taehyung’s kill count unfortunately was lower than Jungkook’s but winning the game made him forget that momentarily.

Seokjin on the other hand looks bummed for a moment, but it changed into faux naturalness. He claps his hands while facing them.

"Good game lads. Be grateful I went easy on you two." Seokjin says nonchalantly, but both Taehyung and Jungkook are aware that was a lie. He collects his bag and stands up to leave.

"Wait where are you going?" There is a slight panic in Jungkook's voice. Taehyung doesn’t blame him because he also feels the same.

"Don't be a sore loser hyung, we can let you win on the next round." Taehyung adds.

"Stop it." Seokjin laughs. "I really need to go though, my fiancé is at home by now and I want to have dinner with him." Seokjin sighs dreamily when he mentioned his fiancé. It was the first time Taehyung found out about Seokjin’s relationship, for the man kept it strictly professional in all of his social media.

"Disgusting." Jungkook scrunches his nose, while Taehyung pretends the gesture didn't affect him in any way. "Send Namjoon hyung my regards."

"Will do." Seokjin replies in a sing-song voice. "I'll leave you two now, try not to kill each other literally hm?" Seokjin says as he analyses them with a knowing look. Taehyung feels himself gulp, already overthinking what might happen after Seokjin leaves. He doesn't know if he's allowed to stay, now that his only excuse of being here is leaving.

"Just go, I want to play on my PC now." Jungkook says while pushing Seokjin's broad shoulders out of the way. Seokjin flicks his forehead, causing Jungkook to flinch.

"Always a brat."

Seokjin then proceeds to gather his belongings and leaves. Taehyung is contemplating whether he should leave with him or stay. He wants to do the former option but his feet won't cooperate.

The older man waves a dramatic goodbye before completely vanishing from Jungkook's office, leaving the two of them in awkward silence.

Like being broken out of a trance, Taehyung starts to leave too, but Jungkook's quiet voice fills the air, stopping him mid-action.

"Want to play another round?"

It was such a simple question, but it carried so much weight. It was laced with Jungkook's hesitance, anxiety even, and Taehyung hopes it also meant as a possible peace offering.

So with sureness in his voice, Taehyung goes back to his seat and replies, a little too happy for his liking.

"Sure."

~

Its been three hours since Taehyung said yes to Jungkook's offer. Three hours since they've been playing non-stop.

"I notice you've been using different heroes every time we play. Who's your actual main though?" Jungkook asks through a mouthful of chips, cheeks rounded as he chews with fervor.

"I like to experiment I guess? But my favorite has got to be Dva."

"Figures, she kinda suits you." Jungkook cocks an eyebrow. There is something about his statement that is filled with unsaid remarks, so Taehyung felt the need to retaliate.

"If you're gonna make a beauty guru joke, drop it." Taehyung warns him.

"I didn't even say anything? You're the one assuming things." Taehyung doesn't somehow believe that.

Jungkook ignores the stink eye he was being given and continues. "Anyway, I also like to experiment, but the one I main the most is-"

"Widowmaker." They both say at the same time.

There was a pause. Taehyung starts to redden while Jungkook starts to smirk.

"Well, somebody did their homework."

"Shut up."

When Jungkook sees Taehyung refuses to talk again, he chose to change the topic to get rid of the silence. “I didn’t expect you to be a player. You’re not too bad I guess.” Jungkook says while casually inspecting his nails for show. Taehyung throws a potato chip in his face.

“With a few more practices, I’ll surpass your gaming channel, Jeon.”

“We’ll see about that.”

They played some more until their backs start to hurt. After a heated match in Overwatch, they decided to play something light, both suggesting at the same time that they should play Mario Kart.

They're both on the couch now, situated more comfortably while playing with the PS4. The screen showed both Taehyung and Jungkook's kart bumping against each other, skidding along Rainbow Road. It was the last lap, and to be quite frank, Taehyung is adamant about maintaining his win streak.

There was an instance where Jungkook was momentarily in the first place, but Taehyung luckily got a blue shell, immediately using it against him. Jungkook curses when the blue shell obliterated his kart, just a few meters away from the finish line. Taehyung took the opportunity to zoom past him and won the game.

"I don't like this, lets go back to playing Overwatch."

"Is this Jeon admitting defeat?" Taehyung teases him.

"Shut up." It was Jungkook’s turn to be embarrassed. “Why are you so aggressive in Mario Kart anyway? Oh wait, you’re one of those aggressive Youtubers that have beef with other Youtubers don’t you?”

"First of all, it’s not that deep. Second, your views on beauty gurus are really skewed, what do you think I do in my free time? Make storytime videos?" Taehyung laughs. To be fair, he never had conflict with other Youtubers and influencers, finding it a waste to invest time in meaningless arguments.

"Something like that.” Jungkook smiles cheekily.

And it was nice. Seeing Jungkook smile like that to him was nice. Being in his office while playing games with him was nice. Taehyung was unsure where they stand though, is it too sudden to call Jungkook his friend? When just a few hours prior to their gaming marathon, Jungkook was looking at him like he’s not worthy of being acknowledged at all.

So with a guarded heart, Taehyung settles with being acquaintances. He considers that as progress either way.

“It’s getting late, aren’t you supposed to be home by now?” Jungkook asks curiously.

“Are you trying to get rid of me?”

“No!” Jungkook exclaims. When he realizes his outburst, he collects himself and speaks again. “It’s getting darker outside, it’d better if you go home when there is still light.”

Upon looking at his watch, it was indeed, later than his usual work hours. So he stands up and stretches, joints aching from being idle for too long. He gets his bag and makes his way to the door. They were standing there awkwardly, both incapable of forming words. Taehyung starts anyway. “See you next week I guess.”

“Yeah me too.” When Jungkook realizes that didn’t make sense, he stutters another response. “W-we should do this again sometime. Maybe I’ll let you win.”

Taehyung scoffs at that. “Okay, Jeon.”

He hesitantly walks away from the door, looking back to wave a casual goodbye to the man. He was hoping Jungkook would at least walk him to the building’s exit, but even he knows that request is too much with their current state of affairs.

He wanted an excuse to talk to the man more, and upon looking back to Jungkook’s face one last time before he heads to the elevators, he hopes that the look on Jungkook’s face, a reflection of his own hesitance, was a sign that he’s thinking the same too.

"How do I look?" Jimin asks Taehyung as he parades in another obnoxious looking jacket, getting cautious looks from the saleslady. It was frilly and sparkly, not really wearable for an everyday look, but Jimin made it work.

It was a Sunday, the pair decided to hang out in the mall for the sake of killing time. At some point, they made this elaborate inside joke of reenacting Asia's Top Model episodes, and today it was Jimin's turn to be the receiver of Taehyung's fashion critique.

"The jacket is gorgeous but you need to work on your walk honey." Taehyung says pensively. "You need to carry the jacket, not the other way 'round."

Jimin, the diva he is, starts to strut around the store like he owns it, and when he thinks no one else is looking, he does a very convincing slutdrop. He thought wrong, because the saleslady witnesses it all, prompting her to choke on her spit. When Jimin realizes a stranger noticed his little show, he quickly places the jacket back in its hanger, grabs Taehyung's hand, and proceeds to flee from the premises.

When they were out of sight, the pair of friends were laughing until their stomach hurts, both doubling over with giggles spilling out of their mouths. "She didn't even get to see your smize."

"Sis might faint for real if I do it." Jimin says with confidence. As someone that witnessed strangers bumping into inanimate objects because of Jimin's visuals, Taehyung doesn't doubt that might actually happen.

They proceed to get milkshakes in a nearby booth, Jimin scrunching his nose when Taehyung gets the strawberry flavored one. "You always get that, it's not even real strawberries."

"Oh and your chocolate flavored one is authentic." Taehyung rolls his eyes. Soon enough, they sit in comfortable silence, enjoying their milkshakes as they people-watch. Since it was the weekend, the mall was pretty crowded, but it only gave them more reasons to make up scenarios with every stranger that piques their interest.

"That man looks like he's from the mafia, coat and all."

"That couple over there looks like they're going through a divorce."

"She looks like she has forty plants in her apartment."

"Look at this dude though, I kinda wanna baby him." Jimin says while eye-ing a man in a bright neon yellow shirt, brown hair tousled effortlessly. When he smiled with his friends, his mouth formed a heart shape, bright laughs loud enough to reach Jimin and Taehyung's table despite being several meters away.

Jimin's comment stops Taehyung from people-watching. "Hey, I'll tell Yoongi hyung you have eyes for another man."

Jimin only raises a brow. "Oh please, Yoongi may be my main baby but I know for a fact that man is open to threesomes." This information made Taehyung gasp, but Jimin continues anyway. "I'm serious though, we have it in our bucket list, along with roleplay-"

"Alright, that's enough. I don't need to imagine you and Yoongi hyung doing the diddly-do."

"Who the fuck even says that." Jimin laughs. His laughter dies down as he watches another stranger that caught his eye. "This one might be up in your alley though, u have a kink for goth boys."

"I do not have a-" Taehyung stops mid-sentence as he realizes who Jimin was referring to. He was wearing a bucket hat that obscured his face but when he faces Taehyung's direction, he instantly knows it was Jungkook.

Jungkook bought ice cream from another stall, looking quite innocent as he eats it despite the all-black attire. He has yet to notice Taehyung's presence, and Taehyung is immensely grateful for Jungkook's inability to be aware of his surroundings.

Jimin is watching Taehyung with narrowed eyes. "I didn't think you'd actually like him this fast-"

"That's him."

Jimin looks confused. Taehyung remembers Jimin never really knew what Jungkook looked like, only detailed descriptions of his appearance whenever he tells Jimin of their interactions.

"That's Jungkook." Taehyung clarifies.

Jimin takes a while to process Taehyung's reply, but once he does, a grin settles on his face. Taehyung belatedly regrets telling him.

"Didn't expect to meet him this soon, but I'm not complaining."

"And who says you're gonna meet him? We're staying here." Taehyung says adamantly, praying to his angels that Jimin won't do anything risky. Of course, Jimin never listens to him, Taehyung realizes that as he watches Jimin finish his drink in one gulp, and starts to walk his way to Jungkook.

He tries to stop him by tugging on his sling bag, and Jimin stumbles back. "Don't do this. I'm literally begging you."

"Relax, I just want to see him up close and personal, I won't talk to tattoo boy." Jimin says while smiling sweetly like a cherub.

"We both know that's a lie."

"It's not."

"It is."

"Drop it."

"No."

Taehyung wants to continue their squabble when he sees a tall figure approach them. He curses his luck as Jungkook's form start to become clearer, a curious look in his eyes when he sees the two of them arguing.

"Taehyung?"

"Jungkook! What are you doing here?" He says with a nervous tone, pitch higher than normal. Jimin is clearly enjoying his predicament because he didn't bother hiding his 'shit-eating grin'. Jungkook looks at Jimin then, only realizing that he might've bothered Taehyung and his friend.

"I'm sorry I didn't realized-"

"Hello, I'm Jimin! Taehyung's best friend. Pleasure to finally meet you." Jimin extends a hand to Jungkook while the latter hesitantly shakes it.

"It's nice to meet you too, but how did you know my name?"

"Oh, Taehyung talked about you! Quite a lot of times actually." Jimin replies nonchalantly. Taehyung sets a mental reminder to kick Jimin in the shin later. Jungkook looks at Taehyung with a questioning stare. Taehyung pretends to ignore it.

"Anyways, I need to polish my clarinet, need it for orchestra lessons soon!" Jimin exclaims. Before Taehyung can complain, Jimin stops him. "See you later, and nice to meet you again Jungkook!"

Jimin didn't have a clarinet nor orchestra lessons. He's a dancer.

Jimin's small stature didn’t hinder him from walking away. Taehyung only stutters a weakened protest as he watches Jimin’s retreating form. When he realizes that his friend is serious about leaving him, he sighs and faces Jungkook. “Don’t mind him, he’s weird like that.”

“Okay.” Jungkook drags out the syllables. “What are you doing here though?”

“Just hanging out, until Jimin left me. How about you?” Taehyung is playing with his sleeves; The memories of yesterday’s gaming marathon playing in his mind.

“Stocking up on groceries.”

“Can I come with you?” When he realizes the statement he said, he cringes inwardly, regretting the fact he’s unable to take his words back. His fridge at his dorm is filled with food and he really doesn’t need to buy anything.

Jungkook only shrugs his shoulders. “Why not.”

Taehyung didn't expect that answer, assumed that Jungkook will push him away for getting all comfortable with him, but he's glad he thought wrong.

They find themselves within the grocery store several minutes later. Jungkook getting a huge metal cart while Taehyung got a small basket for his impromptu grocery shopping.

It was quite nice at first, just two acquaintances shopping for food.

So Taehyung doesn't understand why and how this conversation even started. He spoke too soon, the comfortable silence they had earlier was broken with Jungkook's indignant talking.

“Food is better when it’s spicy!”

“If you like making your tongue numb from the pain that is, you do you.” Taehyung argues. They were in the seasoning aisle, and Taehyung is shocked to see the different types of spicy condiments Jungkook had on his cart. Just thinking about the spiciness made Taehyung's nostrils burn.

"You're Asian yet you dislike spicy food." Jungkook retorts. They've moved past the spices and onwards to the cup noodles aisle now, rows and rows of ramen packaged neatly on the white shelves. He proceeds to get every variety of noodles in bulk, his cart getting filled with junk food and MSG.

"I can't believe I'm worried about your physical health." Taehyung eyes the cart with mild disgust. His eyes scan Jungkook's noodle stash and he sees the brands he used during the first time he met. "What were you planning to do with six cup noodles back when we met at the pantry?"

"It's for a gaming mukbang."

"Why is that not surprising at all." Taehyung snickers. He's casually picking his favorite noodles that he often snacks on, in moderation of course, because he needed to appear like he's here to actually buy something.

The prior debate they had eventually died down, the silence filled the air yet again.

Jungkook proceeds to get all the remaining items on his list. Taehyung can't help but notice the way the younger man scrunches his nose every time he contemplates on what to pick. It is endearing to see.

They are at the cash register now, and there is an item that wasn't in Jungkook's cart before. Before the cashier can put it in a paper bag along with his other purchases, Jungkook stops her and takes it.

Taehyung watches as Jungkook have an inner debate with himself. Once he's decided, he faces the former, and hands him the bottle of strawberry milk.

"What is this?" Taehyung asks curiously.

"I saw you drink a strawberry milkshake earlier, so I figured you must like strawberry flavored things."

At that moment, Taehyung's heart swells.

"You really don't have to, Jungkook." Taehyung tries to decline his offer but Jungkook insists.

"Take it, it's a thank you for accompanying me today. Doing groceries is usually boring but with you around, it's never quiet."

"Hey!" And even if his tone sounds offended, his heart is filled with fondness. He gets the strawberry milk and takes a cautious sip. He doesn't know why he's being cautious; because the milk Jungkook got him is the brand he usually gets. He'd like to think it was a nice coincidence.

The strawberry milk was good as expected, but getting it from Jungkook made it a whole lot sweeter.

~

It's becoming frequent.

Taehyung and Jungkook's interactions evolved from downright avoidance to awkward greetings in the hallways to casual conversations. It was a gradual pace, but sooner or later, they find themselves talking to each other during break times, after work hours, and the like.

Even Kyungmi was surprised to see Jungkook address Taehyung out of nowhere after Taehyung's shift has ended, not used to seeing the two interact outside a professional setting.

It started with gaming invitations. Every time Taehyung's work hours ended, Jungkook would ask him to play in his office. Of course, Taehyung doesn't decline, finding the prospect of playing tempting every time.

And perhaps he enjoys Jungkook's company too.

At some point, they figured that playing one time a week wasn't enough, so they exchanged Overwatch IDs.

They now play three to four times a week.

His playtime with Jungkook was being incorporated in his schedule and even Jimin notices the sudden change. His friend would often complain about how Taehyung doesn't have time for him anymore. "You know, I support u and all, get that schlong or whatever, but you've been playing that goddamn game with him for hours now, I want my best friend back."

Taehyung would retaliate Jimin is being overdramatic but eventually, he notices the huge chunk of time being used on his gaming with Jungkook, and he thinks again that Jimin might've been right.

It doesn't stop though.

One time, during one of their matches, Taehyung referenced an overused anime meme, and he hears Jungkook gasp on his mic. Figures. Jungkook is also an anime fan, hence the excitement.

The next time they meet in the office, they talked about the different shows they've seen. Both talking animatedly, hands moving with excited gestures whenever they bond over a specific anime or scene they like.

Jungkook invites him to watch the recent episode of One Piece with him one day, and Taehyung wouldn't miss that for anything. The former's initial shyness turned into excitement, already opening his PC to stream the new release.

During the show, Taehyung notices they'd have the same reactions too. Both would scream during epic fight scenes, both would laugh at the same jokes, and even saying the same comments at the same time.

One episode wasn't enough. When they were finished with it, there was a silent agreement to binge-watch older episodes. Taehyung pretends he doesn't see Jungkook trying to muffle his sniffles during a sad scene of a character dying.

It was all too fast. After the anime and gaming marathons, their conversations shifted into something more. They would talk about nothing and everything, little bits of secrets they didn't know about each other gets slipped into the discussions they have every now and then.

They both found out they have the same taste in music; their Spotify playlists consist of similar, if not the same, songs. They have shared the same opinions on a lot of things, despite having completely different personalities.

There was a time Jungkook revealed that JK Cosmetics is based on his name.

"All this time I thought JK Cosmetics meant Jeon Kyungmi," Taehyung says exasperatedly.

"Nope, it's based on my first name's initials." Jungkook replies. "I was the reason my mom started doing makeup professionally in the first place. She and dad were poor so she utilized her hobby to make ends meet, to give me a better life."

It was how Jungkook says it with so much sincerity and love in his voice that made Taehyung feel soft. This type of topic was new to him, and he wishes to have more of them.

You can say that that conversation shifted something between them; they've become into proper friends, sharing not just their interests, but sneak peeks into their personal lives as well. Naturally, they exchanged numbers.

Taehyung could spend the entirety of his 24 hours each day talking to Jungkook.

Yoongi and Jimin could attest to that. Yoongi went over to Taehyung and Jimin's dorm one day for a sleepover. It was something they often do, and Taehyung would complain each time that he feels like a third wheeler whenever Yoongi is around.

The couple planned on teasing him about it. There was a romantic scene playing on the rom-com they chose out of boredom, so Yoongi and Jimin used that as possible bait, both deciding to ask Taehyung on how he feels to be a third-wheel for the nth time.

When they faced him, Taehyung wasn't paying attention to the movie at all; instead, he was typing on his phone. He had a smile on his face, and the couple could only assume its because of a certain tattooed boy.

With knowing looks, they decided to leave Taehyung alone.

~

The room is dark, save for the colorful flashes on Jungkook's tv screen. Taehyung is at his office again, successfully convincing Jungkook to postpone his streaming schedule to watch the new movie from their favorite animation studio.

The plot of the movie was simple enough; it's about two lovers, a human and a moon guardian meeting in harsh circumstances. The plot was kind of predictable, Jungkook comments, but the art style was its main redeeming value.

Taehyung agrees. The scenic shots look like it took a lot of time to make, making Taehyung's respect for animators increase tenfold. The characters were uniquely designed as well.

Or maybe he's being biased because one of the protagonists had a similar toothy smile as Jungkook.

Setting that thought aside, both men continued to admire the craftsmanship put into the movie.

Taehyung is in the middle of admiring the current scene's color palette when Jungkook's voice suddenly fills the air.

"Man, I admire artists so much." Jungkook says while his eyes are still on the screen, wide and bright.

"Does that mean you admire me?" Taehyung teases.

"Well, yes." Jungkook replies nonchalantly.

Taehyung didn't expect that at all so his heartbeat quickens its pace. Jungkook doesn't notice his dilemma so he continues.

"I really admire the stuff you do. I don't know much about art outside of photography."

That made Taehyung straighten his back.

"What do you mean? You're very artistic. Your photos are really good. It's in a different medium, but it's art nonetheless." Taehyung thinks thoughtfully.

He remembers the photograph hanged in the office corridors. During one of their late-night conversations, Taehyung reveals he likes to admire the piece every time he passes by it. Jungkook confesses it was him that took the photo; a picture of his dad from one of their family beach trips, before the fame and fortune Kyungmi experienced.

Taehyung can only chuckle at his luck; even before he and Jungkook became close, he's already admiring the man's work from the beginning.

"Not to mention your tattoos are literal art." Taehyung adds. His eyes scan Jungkook's tattoos, the man wearing a sleeveless tank top again, similar to the one he wore during the first time they played.

The intricate patterns start from Jungkook's shoulder up until his fingertips. The linework is very detailed and the shading is seamless.
The design itself varied from flowers to quotes from Jungkook's favorite songs. He imagines Jungkook's thought process as he gets those designs tattooed.

He wants to ask him about it's meaning, but maybe it's a question for another day.

Taehyung voices out his thoughts. "They look beautiful. The lineart is so clean, I want to color within the lines."

"You can do that, I guess."

Taehyung couldn't count the times Jungkook surprise him out of nowhere, this instance is one of them.

"A-are you sure?"

"I don't see why not."

"Jungkook, I will go ham, are you sure?" Taehyung repeats. He didn't lie, his hands are already itching to fill the designs with colors.

"Just go get your materials ready." Jungkook scoffs.

So that's what Taehyung did. He rushes out of Jungkook's office to get extra palettes in a nearby stockroom. When he gets back to Jungkook's office, there is a smile on his face, almost reaching his ears.

"Sit back and relax, let the artist do his work." Taehyung says with pride.

They were both seated on the couch, Taehyung leaning forward to get a proper look of Jungkook's tattoos. It's more beautiful up close. Taehyung traces one of the inked flowers with his fingertips, can feel Jungkook's slight shudder upon contact.

The smell of laundry detergent emanates from Jungkook's clothes, and a light cologne is mixed in with Jungkook's natural scent.

He smells like the sea, fresh and clean. Taehyung had to pull away from him a little because he might give away the fact that he's openly sniffing Jungkook. He paces himself and adjusts his seating position. Despite distancing himself, he can still feel the warmth from Jungkook's body.

Taehyung is getting overly aware of how close they are, so to distract himself, he starts to brush colors on the tattoos.

He starts coloring in the flowers first. He picks several shades of purple to make a beautiful ombre. Greens for the vines and leaves entwining Jungkook's arm. Before he can color another flower with blue hues, Jungkook stops him.

"That's actually a tiger flower, my birth flower. Can you color it in orange instead?" Jungkook requests shyly.

Taehyung couldn't say no to that, so he decides to make it into the most convincing tiger flower he has to make. It took him a little longer to pick a perfect shade of orange, but once he does, he starts coloring it in delicately.

The brush might've tickled Jungkook, because he's subtly squirming in while Taehyung works.

The latter notices his movements so he tests it again by brushing lightly on Jungkook's arms. Jungkook promptly squirmed in his seat again so Taehyung did what he had to do.

He kept brushing the ticklish part on Jungkook's arm and elbows, making the younger man giggle slightly.

"Stop that." Jungkook says with firmness in his voice.

"But how can I color your arms sir?" Taehyung teases. He's tickling Jungkook on his neck and ears now, making Jungkook's earlier giggles transform into full-blown laughter.

He thrashes around making Taehyung accidentally put eyeshadow on inkless skin. It's becoming into a huge mess but at least they're both having a good time.

The sight made Taehyung's chest fill with a feeling of something new yet familiar. He knew he and Jungkook came a long way, but he didn't expect things to turn out like this.

Seeing the man in front of him with a huge grin on his face, arms filled with artwork Taehyung can proudly say he made, its making him realize a lot of things.

For every laugh, every smile, every look thrown his way, Taehyung finds it hard to suppress feelings he's afraid of naming.

~

The collaboration is close to completion, and Taehyung is having mixed feelings.

Especially now, the final product he worked hard for in the past few months, is now in his hands. The palette reflected his hard work from the packaging to the shades itself. The cover was something he designed with careful consideration, wanting it to reflect his image.

The palette is in rose gold, "KTH x JK Cosmetics" placed on the middle with a custom font he made. Silver lineart littered the corners of the cover, designs based on Taehyung's hobbies like art and makeup.

When he opens the palette, he admires how cohesive the shades look next to each other, the names Taehyung picked for each shade added character too. Jimin is going to be thrilled once he finds out that his favorite color, a yellow golden highlight, is named "Soulmate".

They were having a second photoshoot today to showcase the palette itself. Taehyung jokingly asked Kyungmi if she's going to do his makeup again, but Kyungmi shook her head.

"I'd love to, but it'll be better if you're the one that will do it. It'll be nice if you're the first one to make the first masterpiece with the palette you worked hard for." Kyungmi smiles kindly.

Taehyung almost cried then and there. To hear that comment from her is so surreal. This whole collaboration felt surreal.

So with encouragement from Jeon Kyungmi, he started working on his look.

It was bold and vibrant this time contrary to his previous photoshoot makeup that is mostly in soft colors. He picked the darker shades from his palette to create a dramatic effect on his crease. It complemented the colors of his costume.

The costume had the same frills and patterns like his last one, but this time it is in a deep auburn. The main overall theme they had was to showcase the versatility of the palette, allowing consumers to make different looks differing from subtle makeup to more glamorous looks.

When he's done, Kyungmi praises him for doing a job well done. As he looks at a full-length mirror to inspect his reflection, Taehyung feels satisfied with how his look turned out.

And just like last time, he sends Jimin multiple selcas. A few seconds later his phone pings with a notification from Jimin, an invitation to do a video call. When he opens the app, Jimin had tears brimming his eyes and redness blotching his nose. He was crying because he claims he's so proud of Taehyung, and the latter wanted to cry with him but he composed himself so he wouldn’t ruin his makeup.

“Stop crying, you’re making me cry!” Taehyung complains.

Jimin blows his nose with tissues, reddening his face even more. “Shut up, I’m having a moment.”

Taehyung was about to retort when Chaerin calls his name. “I’m sorry to bother you, but we’re about to start.” She had a small smile on her face, probably amused between Taehyung and Jimin’s interactions.

Taehyung says goodbye to Jimin, the latter saying a mumbled “good luck!” before he closes the app. He sets aside his phone to go to the main room containing all the props and backdrops. Interns were doing last-minute touches to the already flawless set. Like last time, it contained fake plants and trees, the leaves are darker and more autumnal themed.

In the midst of it all, stood Jungkook. He's ordering interns around to rearrange the props and lighting until he’s satisfied. Taehyung stood by the doorway, unsure as to why Jungkook is here.

Kyungmi notices his confusion so he approaches Taehyung and pulls him by his arm. “Since the photos turned out so well last time, I asked Jungkook to do it again. It was easy because he didn’t object at all to the idea.”

That thought made Taehyung blush.

“Now go do your thing dear, blow us all away.” She says while pushing Taehyung towards the set, alerting Jungkook of his presence. When they made eye contact, it rendered both of them speechless. They tried to speak at the same time and gets flustered all over again when they talk in unison.

There is a flush in Jungkook’s cheeks similar to the first time they had a photoshoot, but this time it wasn’t as discreet.

“You first.” Taehyung offers.

“Y-you look good.” Jungkook blushes. Taehyung restrains himself from touching the back of his head, a habit he formed when he doesn’t know what words to say. He belatedly realizes he hasn’t replied to Jungkook so he said the first thing he can think of.

“Thanks, you too.”

In Taehyung’s opinion, Jungkook looks good all the time, but the latter was wearing a plain white shirt and denim jeans, his usual attire on normal days. Upon comprehending the implications of the words he said, Taehyung corrects himself.

“I mean thank you! Thank you.”

Jungkook giggles on how awkward they were being so he encourages Taehyung to go in front of the camera so they can finally start.

Everything is the same, yet everything feels so different.

The process is in the same manner as the first photo shoot. Taehyung poses with the props, Jungkook clicks the camera. They would do that for several more sets until both of them feel satisfied. But there is something lingering in the air despite having done this already.

Taehyung feels vulnerable whenever he does a photoshoot with Jungkook. Only this time, his vulnerability is for a completely different reason. There is something intimate on the way Jungkook would look above the viewfinder to have a glimpse of Taehyung without any barrier between them.

His eyes have always been so expressive; the previous disdain it contained for Taehyung now turned into fondness. His voice when he instructs him turned softer too, compared to the first photoshoot where it was filled with animosity.

Taehyung felt like he dived in deep when he met Jungkook. Their whole relationship is an unpredictable storm.

Jungkook now instructs him to do a particularly hard pose. Taehyung tries to bend his arms the way Jungkook instructs him to, but to no avail. An idea forms in his head.

“You photographers and your fucking demands.” He says with a smile.

Jungkook’s face had a twinge of regret upon recognizing his own words from before. When he looks at Taehyung’s face and realizes it was a joke, he loosens up and smiles back.

“Just want the best for the pictures.”

Taehyung continues to pose as best as he can. He would often make eye contact with Jungkook whenever the younger isn’t looking through the viewfinder, and the shyness that blankets the air is mixed with tension.

For every laugh, every smile, every look thrown his way, Taehyung finds it hard to suppress feelings he's afraid of naming.

Only this time, Taehyung is willing to take it to the next step.

~

The day he’s been waiting for finally arrived; its brand launch day.

Jimin keeps swatting away Taehyung’s hand to prevent him from ruffling the back of his head out of nervousness. They were currently in a waiting room but from here, Taehyung can hear the chatter of thousands of people in the main hall. He’d eventually have to face said thousands of people.

“Calm down, you can do this.” Jimin scolds him.

“Jimin I get nervous presenting a PowerPoint presentation in class, what makes you think I’m ready for this?” Taehyung replies.

“Just imagine you’re in your room. These people are probably the same viewers that supported you all throughout these years.” Jimin says confidently.

He’s right though. These people are the main reason why he managed to get this far in the makeup industry. That eases his anxiety for a little bit.

“What if I don’t meet their expectations?” Taehyung asks while fiddling with his shirtsleeves.

“Nonsense, you’re the most loveable person I have ever met.” Jimin hugs him tightly. “You are a bad bitch, your mere presence should blow them away.”

Taehyung punches him lightly, and Jimin’s words may have been silly, but it did the job to cheer him up.

“You’re up in five minutes, remember what we practiced.” Seokjin suddenly calls out. He had a clipboard in his hand, looking like a stereotypical event organizer.

“When in doubt, just smile and wave.” They both say at the same time.

Before Taehyung can go out of the waiting room, Jimin calls out. “Break a leg! You still have a man to collect after this!”

Taehyung curses Jimin for being straight-forward. He glances around them to see if anyone had a clue on who Jimin was talking about. None of them seemed to notice except for Seokjin, who is smiling cheekily next to him.

“So. Jungkook huh.”

“Don’t start now.” Taehyung groans.

“I knew it. I can practically smell the sexual tension from you two when we played in his office.”

“With all due respect hyung, shut up.”

Their banter died down but the thoughts in Taehyung's head didn't. Prior to this day, Taehyung told Jimin about his feelings for Jungkook. Jimin was more surprised that Taehyung finally admitted it to himself, rather than the fact his friend had romantic feelings for Jungkook in the first place.

Jimin reasoned out that after the collaboration, Taehyung wouldn't have a reason to go to the Jeon's offices anymore; he wouldn't be seeing Jungkook as much anymore.

So with newfound determination, Taehyung is set to tell Jungkook his feelings. Or at least ask him out on a proper date.

Currently, Jungkook wasn't able to make it for his launch due to his own personal schedules. Taehyung was mildly disappointed to find out but also relieved because that means he'll have more time to collect himself.

But first, he needs to deal with the brand launch. He's closer to the stage now, just waiting for the signal on when he'll go out. Jeon Kyungmi is on the stage looking polished as always; She is doing a speech about her company's goals and ideals. She brilliantly shifts the topic into her own vision to give talented young artists a platform, and this brand launch is one of them.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I want to introduce a talented colleague of mine. We've been working on this product for the past few months and now, you'll be able to meet the other half that made all of this possible." She pauses to look at him standing by the sidelines.

"Most of you may know him by the name KTHolic." Loud cheering erupts from the crowd when she mentioned his username. "-a rising Youtuber known for his creative videos. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, Kim Taehyung!" she finishes while encouraging the crowd to cheer.

"Go!" Seokjin pushes his back. The deafening cheers from the crowd made Taehyung grounded and realize that the brand launch is actually happening. He walks cautious steps towards Kyungmi while glancing at the crowd. He tries to remember what Seokjin informed him, on what words to say, but at the moment he couldn't remember a thing.

So he did what he was advised to do at times like this. He smiles and waves.

Kyungmi seems to notice his nervousness so she took the lead for the most part. She asks Taehyung questions about the brand, why it was made the way it is while also asking him his experiences as a YouTuber.

It helps that he actually loves what he does because the answers came to him almost instinctively.

She knows how to jump from one topic to another seamlessly. Taehyung almost forgets there was a crowd in front of them because talking to Kyungmi gave him a sense of security.

There is a question and answer portion after the brand introduction, Taehyung tries his best to answer the questions as honestly as he can. When the news reporters and media staff finally felt satisfied with his answers, the program moved on to the meet and greet segment.

Taehyung thinks this is the segment he's most nervous about.

Talking in front of a crowd is one thing, meeting his viewers was another. These are the people that admired him, people that supported him from the get-go. These are people he cares about, so their opinions and views about him are something he wants to turn out well.

The queue for the meet and greet is long, making Taehyung's anxiety spike at a higher level. Each person will get about twenty seconds with him and a picture. With bated breaths, he waits for the first person to arrive.

A few seconds later, a girl went in with a shy smile. Her shirt has a quote of an inside joke he shares with his viewers. It brought a genuine smile to his face for the first time since the meet and greet started.

"Hello, you're such an inspiration to me." The girl says hurriedly for she wants to say everything she can in the given span of twenty seconds. "Never stop doing what you love to do." She continues.

Taehyung knows his viewers like him but he didn't realize he affected them to this extent. To hear such kind words brought warmth to his heart. His passion for makeup is the reason why he started, his viewers are the reason why he stayed.

He expresses his gratitude to her and asks her what pose she would like to make, they settled for a side-hug.

That went surprisingly well, he thinks.

That first interaction gave him the strength to meet the rest of his viewers. He's looking forward to meeting the rest of them, doesn't really understand why he doubted the love and support he received. He finds himself enjoying the experience, initial anxiety dying down.

At this moment, Taehyung is reminded of all the things he's grateful for.

The sound of champagne bottles being popped open filled the air. Confetti flies through different directions, thanks to Chaerin and Sooyoung's makeshift confetti poppers.

The brand launch was a success. It was well-received by both the media and the customers. Reviews of his palette are already being uploaded in various social media sites and so far the response has been good.

Taehyung couldn't be any happier. That was his palette, something he created from start to finish. His hard work paid off, all the designing, swatching, testing, and planning; it all prospered into a wonderful outcome.

Jimin and Yoongi were beside him, smudging cake icing along his cheeks. They claimed it was their way of congratulating him, and for once, Taehyung doesn't mind.

"Imagine being an icon at the tender age of 24."

"Yoongi hyung I'm only 22."

"I'm talking about myself." Yoongi slurs out.

Deafening silence. Jimin takes his hand and leads him to a nearby couch.

"Don't mind him he's wasted already." Jimin groans, annoyed. Taehyung looks at the clock to check the time. "Damn it's not even midnight yet and he's already a goner."

"Enough about him, let's talk about you." Jimin says as he raises his glass. "Here's to my soulmate, for following his and dreams and being good at it."

"Cheers to that." Taehyung indulges him.

They watch the crowd for a while. Unfortunately, Kyungmi couldn't make it to the after-party, she had to catch a flight to New York for another business meeting. She was able to video call Taehyung and give her his congratulations.

Taehyung didn't expect he and Kyungmi are close enough to do video calls now, but he isn't complaining.

Chaerin and Sooyoung are singing a popular pop song with interns dancing as background dancers, everybody is hyping them up. Taehyung makes sure to get a video to tease them once they're sober.

One thing is missing though and Taehyung tries his best not to be disappointed.

"He'll come soon enough." Jimin convinces him.

"I'm not going to hope Chim. Maybe it's a sign I shouldn't tell him."

"The night is still early, he'll be here before you know it. He has to or I'll break his kneecaps for missing out your important day." Jimin threatens, trying to look as menacing as possible.

"You do realize he can break you in half right?" Taehyung throws the garnish from his half-empty martini.

"Who's going to break who in half?"

Taehyung can feel his neck crack when he whips his neck around upon hearing that voice.

Jungkook is standing there sheepishly. His hand brushing the back of his neck, mirroring Taehyung, almost instinctively raising his hand in unison. He is wearing a blue silk top, unintentionally matching Taehyung's red one. His hair is swept to the side effortlessly, showing his wonderful set of eyebrows.

"Am I late to the party?" Jungkook asks.

"You are right on time!" Jimin exclaims. He stands up from his seat and goes to Jungkook. He pushes him to sit with Taehyung; the latter mortified at Jimin's obvious actions.

"Now if you excuse me, I'll be babysitting my boyfriend over there." Jimin points to Yoongi sitting dangerously on the edge of the couch. The older man was about to fall off when Jimin ran to catch him just in time. Before he can bring Yoongi to a safer room, he looks back to Taehyung and mouths "Get your man."

Taehyung looks at Jungkook to gauge his reaction to Jimin's statement but fortunately, he is looking at his phone. Taehyung coughs to get Jungkook's attention. The younger man looks at him with a quirked eyebrow.

"You're showing up to my after-party to play on your phone." Taehyung teases.

"I'm checking if my mom is at the airport already, doofus."

"No name-calling today, because today is my day." Taehyung replies while flipping his hair, but fails miserably when one of his rings get stuck in between the strands.

Jungkook laughs at him while he flushes into a deep red color. He helps him untangle the ring from his hair, their hands brushing together. They were so close and Taehyung can smell that familiar ocean scent he loves.

"So full of finesse." Jungkook says while he successfully untangles the mess Taehyung made. He brushes out Taehyung's hair with his fingers, prompting Taehyung to feel comfortable. "But congratulations, for everything I guess."

"Why thank you, you can buy my palette on my website."

"If I show up one day with a full face of makeup on, it's over for you, Kim." Jungkook says proudly. Taehyung can see Jungkook wearing subtle makeup every now and then but nothing too bold. Taehyung's hand itches to put different colors on the boy's eyelids and see what he'll look like with a stunning cut-crease.

The conversation lasted for a few minutes. Different opinions being thrown here and there, everything said in total agreement. Talking to Jungkook has always been easy, or at least it became easier after they had the chance to get to know each other. The ease in his heart is short-lived, for Jimin's reminder rings at the back of his mind.

He needs to be honest with his feelings soon.

He tries to delay it, putting the thought in the deepest crevices of his mind, but it keeps appearing like a constant reminder. He's now spewing random topics he can think of to keep the conversation with Jungkook going.

Jungkook notices the change in Taehyung's demeanor so he places a comforting hand on the latter's knee. "Hey, slow down. Is there something wrong?"

And a dam inside Taehyung breaks. Maybe it was the softness in his eyes or the concern in his voice, but seeing Jungkook care for him like this makes it harder to suppress the thought he's been delaying. He looks at Jungkook properly, assessing his features up close. His eyes wander to the mole below his lip to the scar marring his cheek. He's taking his time to memorize every detail, for every event that'll follow will be uncertain.

"Taehyung?" Jungkook repeats, his voice a little bit lower and a little bit uncertain. They were facing each other completely now, just a few more inches and their lips might brush.

Before Taehyung can change his mind, he lets the words spill out of his mouth.

"I like you."

The silence is deafening. Jungkook slightly backs away from him and Taehyung pretends the heavy feeling in his throat was caused by the champagne.

When he realizes Jungkook isn't going to reply anytime soon, he musters up all the courage he has left. "I like you for a while now. I don't know when or how it started, especially due to the circumstances of our first meeting-" Taehyung realizes he's rambling, so he collects himself and starts again.

"The point is, I like you. It started from noticing the small things you do; When you accompanied me to the train station, when you allow me to be in your office, when we play games, when we talk about everything and nothing." The room is loud, save for the space they're seated in. Taehyung wishes he could've done this in a different setting, regret looming faster than the heartbreak in Jungkook's eyes.

"Seeing your passion for both gaming and photography, I'm mediocre in both of those but seeing you do so well with them, it makes me want to try harder with my own thing. The way you care so deeply for the people around you, your mom, and your hyungs. Even me." Taehyung stops to take a breath.

"We've only known each other for such a short amount of time but my feelings don't magically appear out of nowhere. I'm sure now, and I want you to know before all of this ends. I won't be seeing you as much anymore after this so I'm asking you now Jungkook-" Taehyung pauses to look at Jungkook in the eye. The man now had a blank look on his face, emotions indecipherable.

"-will you go out with me?" Taehyung finishes. He looks at Jungkook again but the man is looking away from him.

The confession should've lifted a heavy weight off his chest but it only made it worse. Taehyung counts each second that passes. One. Two. Every tick of the clock a reminder of the beats of his own heart.

His surroundings turned into static; loud chatter from his guests now a quiet murmur, music he danced to earlier now an annoying ring in his ears. All of these noises, yet the one Taehyung wants to hear from the most is filled with silence.

"Please say something." Taehyung pleads. Only then did Jungkook show a reaction. His fingers twitched and his shoulders visibly flinched.

He finally faces Taehyung and when he forsakenly thought he could end this in closure, if not in a better stand, Taehyung's lids brimmed with tears.

Jungkook's face is cold and blank, devoid of color or feeling. Whenever Taehyung thinks of Jungkook, he thinks of warmth; now he imagines that warmth to be a mere figment of his imagination.

When Jungkook finally speaks, it felt like walking aimlessly in the rain, the coldness in his skin slowly seeping in.

"I have to go."

Taehyung can only watch Jungkook stand up from his seat and leave. Jimin, watching the interaction from the side, quickly passes Yoongi to an intern so he can go comfort his friend. When Jimin arrives, Taehyung is staring into space with wetness in his cheeks.

"I told him." Taehyung says to Jimin and judging by his reaction, Taehyung figured he didn't need to elaborate the situation more.

Jimin hugs him tightly and he urges Taehyung to hide his face on his shoulder. "It's okay to cry, I'm here."

So Taehyung did. He cried until he's satisfied.

When Jungkook left, he brought a piece of Taehyung's heart with him.

~

Jungkook kills another character from the enemy team, but it didn't give him joy like it used to. He is supposedly scheduled to do a stream today, but he can't find the energy to do so. He made a quick statement on how he'll be taking a break for a couple of days and genuinely apologized to his viewers.

It has been a week since he last talked to Taehyung.

It's been radio silent from both sides. Jungkook is grateful to see that Taehyung hasn't blocked him in any social media yet, but looking back to their past conversations makes him upset. He'd constantly hover on their chats, typing and deleting things he wants to say.

Then again, he's quite unsure of what he even feels in the first place. The ball is in Jungkook's court, but he doesn't know what to do with it.

When he first met Taehyung, he was wary. He remembers the first time he joined Youtube, he was seeing all kinds of drama from the beauty community. It was draining to see, even if he's not part of said community. From then on, he had this preconceived notion that all beauty gurus are prone to toxicity and greediness.

His mother is the only exception to his eyes. He sees the sacrifices she made for the family, for him, so he acknowledges her craft with utmost respect. After all, if there is one thing that is different with her mom compared to the others, is the fact that until now, she does it because she loves it, the money that comes with it is just an added bonus.

So when Taehyung arrived in their office, he assumed he was like the rest of them. It wasn't the first time his mother collaborated with other creators from the beauty community. Most them of showed their true colors after a while and it proved Jungkook's theory; that they're all in it for the money.

Taehyung continues to change his perspective though. As time passes, Jungkook notices Taehyung's eagerness whenever he walks into the Jeon's offices; always excited to create something new. His mom would only say good things about the man, compliments never-ending.

Jungkook would like to see for himself. So he observes.

They've had their disagreements and Jungkook is aware of that. Looking back, he regrets being unnecessarily rude to Taehyung.

Taehyung never really cared much about their first encounters. He willingly looked past that to get to know Jungkook more. He had the option to walk away from Jungkook's life but he stayed.

When they started hanging out together, Jungkook can see bits and pieces from Taehyung's personality that can't be seen on a surface level. His presence is a breath of fresh air that Jungkook is drawn towards.

Taehyung is beyond his imagination. He thinks he knows him but the man never runs out of surprises.

So why did he run away from him when he confessed?

Jungkook admits he's a coward. He's scared with how fast they clicked, how fast his feelings progressed for the man, so before it can bloom into something irreversible, he cuts it off. Jungkook finds comfort in familiarity, and everything he's ever felt with Taehyung wasn't familiar at all, and he doesn't know what to do with the extra baggage.

The sound of a key turning a lock interrupted Jungkook from his thoughts. He looks back to see Kyungmi walking in with luggage in tow. He didn't expect her to be home this soon.

"I'm tired." Kyungmi complains while taking off her jacket and heels. Jungkook approaches her to help her with the bags. "I thought you won't be home until next week?" He asks.

"Client signed the contract sooner than expected." She complains. He goes to their fridge to get her a glass of water. While she drinks it, she observes Jungkook's physical state.

"No offense son, but you look like crap."

"Mom!"

"I'm serious! Did something happen?"

The made Jungkook quiet. He tries to avoid the topic by washing the glass she used.

"Something did happen." Her voice gets drowned out by the sound of the water running through the faucet. He repeatedly rinses the glass even though it was already clean.

"Nothing happened okay? You worry too much." When he's done with the glass, he decides to make a run to his room. He's not ready to talk about it. Not now, not ever.

"Sooyoung told me."

Jungkook stops in his tracks. He looks back at her only to see she is smiling at him knowingly.

"She was watching the both of you when it happened. Don't get mad at her, she assumed I already know."

He is standing by the staircase, unsure of what to say or what to do. Kyungmi gestures for him to come nearer.

"Why did you ask me if you already know?" Jungkook asks her.

"I know you like the back of my hand; you don't open up easily about things like this. So I tested if you'll start talking about it on your own." She tuts. "You need to be more honest with me dear."

Jungkook only frowns slightly. Even if he wants to talk about it, he doesn't know where to begin.

"Try me." Kyungmi replies. He didn't realize he said his thoughts out loud.

It was a Saturday night, he has nothing else better to do so he gives it a try.

He tells her everything; from his blatant disdain for the beauty community to his feelings for Taehyung. The way they bonded over similar interests to the way they subtly flirt for the past couple of months.

He also told her the part where Taehyung confessed, recalling in vivid detail how Taehyung's eyes flashed with hurt, how his voice lowered into a whisper when he pleaded for Jungkook to say something. During the moment he may seem calloused on how he handled the confession, but he was aware of every word they exchanged that night. He's aware of every action he did to hurt Taehyung.

"So let me get this straight." Kyungmi pinches the bridge of her nose. "You like him, he likes you. What's the issue here exactly?"

When she phrases it like that, it sounds shallow to Jungkook.

"I already said that I'm unsure about a lot of things okay?" He retorts.

"When I met your dad, we're unsure about a lot of things too. Look at us now." She says with fondness as she eyes a family portrait displayed on the wall parallel to them.

"But that's different. You knew each other for years before doing a relationship."

Something clicks inside Kyungmi's head when she hears that. "The time you spent with someone isn't equal to how strong your bond is with them. Tell me Jungkook, what exactly are you afraid of?"

Jungkook exhales deeply. He feels helpless for not being able to convey his feelings across clearly. Kyungmi tells him she has all day to listen.

As she waits patiently, Jungkook finally admits. "I'm afraid it won't go well in the long-run. We've met each other so suddenly and in the beginning, we're not even on good terms."

He continues when she urges him to go on. "I've never been in a proper relationship before, you know that. So I'm afraid I will mess this up and leave both of us hurting. Taehyung doesn't deserve that."

Kyungmi sighs. She straightens her back, a gesture Jungkook noticed when she's about to give him one of her lectures.

"Just because he wants to date you, doesn't mean you have to figure everything out in one go. That's practically impossible with all relationships dear."

"I know that." Jungkook says exasperatedly. "But that doesn't mean it'll hurt any less when things turn into shit." She slaps his arm lightly, reprimanding him to watch his words. Jungkook can only mumble a quiet apology due to emotional tiredness.

"That's part of the dating process, to see where it goes. If it goes well, brilliant! If not, then at least that's better than the what-ifs. At least you know you tried."

When Jungkook was about to answer back, Kyungmi stops him. "Would you rather lose him for good or are you willing to try? Taehyung is a good man. I can see that he's good for you."

Jungkook struggles to answer the question but deep down, he knows what he really wants.

"I'm guessing you've figured it out." Kyungmi smiles kindly.

Jungkook can only nod. His mom is right. He rarely gets out of his comfort zone but for Taehyung, he's willing to take a risk.

After the wake-up call he experienced, Jungkook forms a plan with new-found determination.

He's going to take Taehyung back.

~

Taehyung was in the Jeon's offices to do some final paperwork and so the staff can give him a proper send-off. They were discussing the success of the collaboration and Taehyung proposed he's open to future projects with the company. Kyungmi is more than happy to hear that.

He vows to himself that this won't be the last time he'll have a collaboration with JK Cosmetics. The time he spent here is something he'll forever be grateful for.

Kyungmi gives him a hug. "It's been nice working with you dear. Please give us a call anytime if you want to discuss something new." She winks at him. Taehyung laughs at the stark difference of their first meeting and now; formalities a thing of the past.

He shakes Chaerin and Sooyoung's hands too, both women have been really kind to him. They were there to help him all throughout his journey. "It was a pleasure working with you both."

"We look forward to the next time." Sooyoung replies kindly.

He eyes the team he's been working with for the past couple of months and he suddenly feels sad. Time flies by fast.

He leaves the meeting with contentment in his heart. He commits the image of the room to his memory; the whiteboard that witnessed all the ideas they brainstormed, the table that experienced accidental coffee spills, the lights that were just the right amount of brightness for Taehyung's liking. He memorizes it all, for it's his last official day here.

He says one last goodbye to the team and closes the door on his way out.

He admires the hallways as he walks to the elevators while adamantly avoiding the other side of the corridor, wanting to forget one thing this place has given him.

He's unsuccessful for he stops in his spot to look at the photograph he admires each time he passes by. Memories from that night floods his mind.

He shakes it off, wanting to leave the place on a good note. He presses the down button on the elevator, looking forward to resting in his own dorm.

"Taehyung."

He pretends he doesn't hear the voice calling out to him.

"Taehyung, please."

He quickly gets inside the elevator and presses the close button.

Jungkook had other plans, for he stops the elevator doors closing with his hand. Taehyung looks at him with disdain. "What do you want Jungkook?"

"Let me explain."

"You had that chance weeks ago." Taehyung replies. He left Jungkook unblocked in all of his social media, hoping he'd contact him and explain his side, but a message or call never came.

"I'm not getting out of the way until you give me a chance." Jungkook stands in between the elevator opening. Sensing Jungkook isn't moving anytime soon, Taehyung ruffled his hair out of frustration.

"You get a minute."

He bumps Jungkook's shoulder harshly on his way out. Jungkook doesn't look like he minds though because he has a hopeful smile on his face.

"Let's talk in my office?" Jungkook says while leading the way. Taehyung can make a run towards the staircase, but if he's being honest, he wants to hear what the younger man has to say. He deserves the closure.

When they were in the office, Taehyung sits on the couch, the same couch they played numerous games in. He looks around and nothing much changed. If anything, the only thing that changed within this room is Jungkook himself.

His previous cool demeanor disappeared, showing a version of Jungkook that is much rougher at the edges. Taehyung takes note of Jungkook's dark under-eye circles, the subtle change in his cheeks. He looks unwell, and Taehyung doesn't know if he should be concerned or relieved because he wasn't the only one losing sleep over their last conversation.

"I don't know where to start." Jungkook speaks with doubt.

"Then you should better think about it then because you're halfway done with your five minutes." Taehyung replies with annoyance. As much as he wants to give Jungkook the benefit of the doubt, bitter memories taunt him.

"Wait! Wait." Jungkook panics. He starts to look for something in his drawer, fast fingers retrieving a small box.

He sits beside Taehyung, a safe distance between them. He reaches out his hand to give Taehyung the box.

"What is this?" Taehyung asks warily.

"Consider it as a peace offering." Jungkook looks nervous.

Taehyung was given a small black box with a ribbon tied around it. He unties the ribbon carefully and lifts the cover of the box, revealing a silver comb, placed on top of a black cushion. The handle of the comb had gems fashioned into small flowers and Taehyung thinks its a design suited for his taste. He tilts the box to see the shine from the comb reflect beautifully.

"Jungkook I don't understand." Taehyung says with honesty. He was half expecting it'll reveal a jewelry set or a fancy enamel pin, but he got a comb instead.

"I notice you always have messy tufts of hair at the back of your head due to ruffling it all the time, so you know, I got you a comb."

A pause.

"Jungkook." Taehyung starts. "Are you saying I'm unkempt?"

"Yes, wait, no!" Jungkook stutters. "God this isn't going the way I imagined it to be."

Jungkook takes a deep breath. Taehyung notices his hands are slightly shaking but decides not to comment on it.

"I guess what I'm trying to say is I notice every little thing you do. I've noticed for a while now." To prove his point, Jungkook tries to maintain eye contact with Taehyung.

"It started with the little things. I noticed how you always have seven sets of pins on your bag. You change the designs constantly, but the number has to be the same." Upon hearing that his pins were mentioned, Taehyung touches them delicately.

"Then I started noticing you have a habit of ruffling your hair, you do it when you're nervous or when you struggle on what to say next. I don't know if you noticed it, but either way, I find your hair cute. Messy or not."

Jungkook is far from done because when Taehyung is going to reply, he stops him. "Most importantly I notice your love for art. During the collab, I can see the way you focus on every little detail. Your eyes shine brightly when you settle for a design you loved, or when you pick a shade that matches the theme. The littlest things give you joy and I hope that part of you will never change."

Taehyung is feeling nervous now, he still doesn't have an idea on where Jungkook is going with this, doesn't want to assume in order to protect his heart from disappointment. He listens anyway.

"But I didn't only notice things about you, I notice things about myself too." Jungkook is blushing a deep red now. "Whenever you smile, especially when I'm the reason, I feel like I've accomplished something big. Even if my jokes are stale sometimes, I try. Because seeing you happy makes me happy too."

"I-" Jungkook struggles with the next sentence. "When we weren't on good terms, I regret that a lot. I was being an ass and you didn't deserve the shit attitude I gave you. But you persisted anyway, you could've ignored me until your collab is over but you didn't, you tried your best to put up with me."

"Jungkook please-" Taehyung was pleading for reasons he's not sure why but Jungkook cuts him off.

"Taehyung, I like you."

Taehyung's breath hitched. His fidgeting halted into a stop. He dares to ask Jungkook to repeat it again.

"I like you and this time, I'm willing to prove it." Jungkook repeats with sureness in his voice.

Taehyung doesn't understand. It doesn't add up at all. If Jungkook likes him back, why did he pushed him away?

"You must be wondering why I didn't say yes that night." Jungkook speaks shyly. "I was a coward. I was scared because things between us happened so fast. I feared that taking the next step might end up hurting the both of us."

Jungkook takes Taehyung's hands in between his. "I'm sorry. Please give me another chance, I want to make things right." Jungkook's palms were warm but then again, Jungkook has always been warm. It's one of the things Taehyung noticed first about him, during the time where it rained and he accompanied him to the subway station.

"Say something, please." It was Jungkook's turn to say the exact same statement Taehyung uttered to him that night.

Taehyung has always been forgiving. In fact, he may have forgiven the younger man already the moment he said Taehyung's name in the hallway. He's too tired to harbor anger in his heart.

At the end of the day, Taehyung only wanted Jungkook to do an apology. Even if he can have closure on his own, hearing what the man has to say can help him understand things from another person's perspective. The confession he just witnessed was the last thing Taehyung expected.

Nonetheless, he isn't complaining at all, happiness starting to make its way to his heart. Jungkook looks forlorn with the lack of reaction from him, straight up winced when Taehyung removed his hands from Jungkook's hold.

"I'm sorry. You don't have to give me an answer immediately." Jungkook says with a hint of sadness. Taehyung doesn't have to wait to give him an answer. He holds Jungkook's face and inches his face towards him. He hopes with all of his might that his actions will convey all the words he's unable to speak.

Kissing Jungkook feels strange and familiar at the same time. Strange because Taehyung couldn't grasp the concept that it was actually happening. Familiar because the way their lips move together feels like it's something they have done before, even if this is the first time they kissed. Jungkook's lips were slightly chapped, but they were still mostly soft and pliable against his.

There were no fireworks, no life-altering realization, but it was them. This kiss was theirs and theirs to keep. The uniqueness of it all comes from the fact that it was Jungkook, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

Jungkook's hands tangle Taehyung's hair, in the familiar spot he always ruffles. The comb was forgotten on the coffee table, and Taehyung thinks he doesn't really need it when Jungkook is readily available to brush his hair at any given time.

"All the dramatics earlier of you leaving." Kyungmi interrupts them. "But it looks like we're going to see more of you around here."

They stepped away from each other like their touches burned. Kyungmi is by the doorway, a cheeky smile on her face.

"Mom!"

"Hey, you didn't lock your door. I was going to ask about pizza night but it looks like I interrupted something."

Jungkook groans and Taehyung hides his face in embarrassment. It's not every day your role model will catch you kissing her child like there's no tomorrow.

But Taehyung knows he'll have tomorrow to kiss Jungkook, and the next day, and the day after that.

~

"Jungkook you're poking my eye!" Taehyung complains as Jungkook once again pokes his eye with an eyeshadow brush. He's struggling to place a proper gradient onto Taehyung's lids so he decides to mix the shades altogether.

Taehyung's dorm looks like a mess. Several products were laid out on his bed along with wrappers from their favorite snacks. A tripod is placed in front of the bed, holding Jungkook's trusted camera.

A process that takes Taehyung less than ten minutes took Jungkook an hour, and he's still going at it. They've been filming the whole day but Jungkook is adamant to make his makeup look "better".

They are filming a collaboration video, "Boyfriend does my Makeup" is what it's called. Taehyung insisted they should post on his channel this time, because last time, he played Overwatch with Jungkook for the latter's channel.

It was weird at first, both of their viewers were shocked to see them dating. Several articles were written about it considering they're both fairly popular Youtubers in their respected niche. After the initial shock died down, new fans from both sides start to check out both of their channels. They grew individually and as a 'ship' as well.

Taehyung's thoughts were halted when he realizes Jungkook is wasting a high-end eyeliner over several attempts.

Aside from the botched liner work, layers of eyeshadow are starting to build on his eyelids. His cheeks were a mess because Jungkook mistakenly added contour as blush onto his cheekbones. Taehyung kind of regrets it now, because his skin is getting flaky due to the excessive amount of products applied and his eyes are getting watery due to his boyfriend's trial and error process.

Boyfriend. It's a cute word, Taehyung thinks.

Said boyfriend sighs deeply. "Maybe if you stop squirming? I kept poking your eye because you're moving a lot." Jungkook points out.

"Babe you just suck." Taehyung says with love. His boyfriend is talented with a lot of things, but doing a dramatic cut-crease isn't one of them.

"Is that right?" Jungkook says while eyeing Taehyung with mischief. He throws away the brushes, making Taehyung scream that those were expensive. He pushes Taehyung on the bed and uses his dead weight to stop Taehyung from moving.

They were both giggling now, camera forgotten. Even with the ridiculous makeup Jungkook applied on Taehyung's face, the latter still managed to look beautiful.

"See something you like?" Taehyung teases Jungkook when he sees his boyfriend staring at his features longer than necessary.

"Yes I do actually." Jungkook kisses both of Taehyung's eyes. He moves onto the nose, then both cheeks, and finally the lips. He kisses him with a loud smack, some of the gloss on Taehyung's lip transferred on Jungkook's.

Jungkook kisses him again and again, but Taehyung had to pull away, claiming that his face starts to feel icky. Jungkook unwillingly obliges.

They filmed a short outro for the video, showcasing how the final look turned out. Mishaps happened in the way and Taehyung thinks he'd have a hard time editing things out. Jungkook suggests they should let everyone see their makeout session.

When they are done with the filming, they start to clean Taehyung's room. Piles of makeup are being stored in containers and Jungkook's camera equipment goes back to his bag. Jungkook accompanies Taehyung to the bathroom, watching the latter wash the products off his skin.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Taehyung asks while wiping his face with a towel. Jungkook is leaning on the bathroom door with curious eyes.

"Nothing. Just thinking about you."

"Oh?" Taehyung faces him now. "Where is this coming from?" He says while linking his arms around Jungkook's neck. Jungkook automatically wraps his arm around Taehyung's waist in return.

"It's just crazy how a few months ago, we were arguing in the rain about umbrellas and weather reports." Taehyung laughs as he recalls the event.

"Correction, you were the one being annoying about it." Taehyung replies.

"Guess so. But in the end, I still cared for your well-being even back then." Jungkook gives him a quick peck on the lips.

"I'll give you a cookie then, for being romantic." Taehyung giggles. He's aware they're being sappier than usual, but moments like this are Taehyung's favorite; Playful banter and shameless flirting. It's been months since he started dating Jungkook and nothing changed on the way he feels for the man. If anything, it grew stronger than ever.

He raises his legs to purposely make himself heavy and Jungkook complains. He carries him to the bed anyway, for he knows Taehyung had a penchant for being carried.

They lay there comfortably while the sound of rain hits Taehyung's windows. They were talking about the most nonsensical things while Jungkook brushes Taehyung's hair with his fingers.

"Do you even use the comb I gave you?" Jungkook says accusingly.

"It's displayed on my desk. It's too precious to use. Besides, you love me even when I don't shower so all is good."

"Unfortunately." Contradicting his words, Jungkook sniffs the crown of Taehyung's head, not displeased at all. He can fall asleep by Taehyung's side like this.

Taehyung on the other hand feels uncomfortable in the position they're in. His hand got squished in between their chest. "Jungkook?"

"Hm?"

"I can't feel my hands." No response.

He tried to wriggle out of Jungkook's hold but to no avail. He settles for verbal threats.

"If you don't move, I won't wear the Dva costume for your birthday."

That wakes Jungkook up. He certainly won't miss that for the world so he complies with Taehyung's request. He turns around and lets the older man be the bigger spoon.

"Why am I always the little spoon." Jungkook huffs.

"Because I have bigger hands and because I said so." Taehyung kisses Jungkook's nape.

Jungkook can only smile. He's grateful he's facing away from Taehyung because for the nth time that day, he's blushing. When the blush died down, He cranes his neck around to retort.

"You and your demands."

When he didn't get a reply, Jungkook sees Taehyung has fallen asleep. He has always been beautiful to Jungkook's eyes, but seeing Taehyung sleep peacefully beside him made him want to protect him more.

Jungkook holds the arms wrapped around him more securely. They've had a long day, a tiring day even, but he wouldn't change it for anything because it was a day well spent with Taehyung.

He's hoping that in the future, he'll start and end the day with Taehyung. Everything feels bearable when he's by his side. Jungkook is still scared things might go wrong for them, even if so far, everything has been picture perfect. But for Taehyung he's willing to take the risk.

When he closes his eyes, instead of fearing the unknown future that awaits them, he embraces it.
