Work Text:
Lan QiRen thought a lot about future sect business. The Twin Jade's of GuSu Lan will surely make a great generation but how will it be after that?
The two of them do not show slightest bit interest in having a relationship. He saw how Lan XiChen, despite engaging with many people does not show interest with any of them. From his study periods with other sects disciples, he managed to have a close relationship with both Nie and Jin clan disciples but still how can the sect got an heir from friendship?
He will try harder with the second then.
Though he know how challenging Lan WangJi is. He understands how deep the boy feelings can be. He was the one who picked the fevered boy up and nursed him back to health during those months the boy insisted to kneel outside the Jingshi waiting for his mother! Give him some credits.
So, he hopes. He hopes there is someone from this batch who can match well with his nephew, even he secretly know how impossible it is to match up Lan WangJi standard (he is one of the two people the boy tolerates, and they are both blood-related). So, whoever the boy put interest in (read: interact with) he swears he will surely give a great push for a greater GuSu Lan future.
Oh, how he wants to take back his words.
The only disciple WangJi engages with is Wei WuXian. Wei WuXian, who forgot his invitation on the very first day. Wei WuXian, who continuously drool in his classes. Wei WuXian, who broke countless rules on his first week here. Wei WuXian, who has the ugliest handwriting he has ever seen. Wei WuXian, who sends paper man at least once every 20 minutes towards his nephew direction. Wei WuXian, who constantly waves his hand and calling his nephew.
"Lan Zhan! Lan er-gege!"
Wait. What did the boy call his nephew again?
When did this happen.
No one has called his nephew by his birth name since his mother died. Not even him. Not even XiChen.
Just how shameless this Wei WuXian can actually be?
They, GuSu Lan Sect, live in peace. Peace they all actually prefer before all this commotions of other sects disciples come. So, they have sensitive hearing. And that Wei WuXian talks really, really loud that it is impossible for his nephew not to hear him.
He knows how good his nephew self-restraint is. He shows very little emotions even compared with others from his sects. Unlike XiChen warm smiles, QiRen does not even miss WangJi's, he does not even know how it looks like if a smile plastered on his youngest nephew perfect face. His younger nepher has long since mastered the act of fully concealing his emotions. The only clue is his warm golden eyes. He hopes his nephew will be brave enough to display his emotions again one day. Brave enough to be comfortable around people that are here loving him. He hopes he will be able to witness it one day.
However, calling his birth name is too far. Lan Zhan, has a really big meaning on his nephew. He refused silently with the smallest frown when XiChen or him call him by that name. Saying of how it reminds him too much of his mother. So, they never do anymore.
Even with his self-restraint, WangJi surely won't ignore this. QiRen even willing to break some rules and spare the boy from some beating if WangJi decided to sheath his sword.
However, what he sees is WangJi continuously walk forward as if the name does not reach his ears.
He seriously need to let his teenage nephew set aside a few rules and defend himself sometimes. (Something he should have considered long before he gave those 3000 rules for a child to learn reading with)
QiRen can't help but be a little stricter with Wei WuXian. The boy did cross not a little rules after all. Instead, he might have crossed every single rule they have on GuSu Lan.
However, after three weeks WangJi stopped burning those paper-men. He notices how WangJi secretly take them and slipped them under his robe. He saw WangJi silent nod when Wei WuXian is trailing after him, talking non stop.
And after, WangJi replied with "Wei Ying" when the boy shamelessly call him "Lan Zhan", he fell into desperate but controlled cries as he realize this may be the only way they can reach GuSu Lan next generation. (And maybe, see the smile in his nephew grown up face)
That brat Wei WuXian.
Now, he has to push this two together before he and his brother have to go back to YunMeng. Or maybe the boy should not go back to YunMeng at all. QiRen is sure WangJi also wants the messy haired boy to stay at Cloud Recesses. What his nephew wants, he will get.
Just what exactly can make Lan WangJi let go of his restrain and just pounce on the poor boy?
One month in the Library Pavilion sure is enough for them, right?
What a great year to have, QiRen.
