Chapter Text
Jungkook purposely stepped on some dead leaves, relishing in the crunchy sound they let out. He imagined that they were all his annoying school mates and teachers and the crunch sound was actually their pained screams.
Slightly psychotic.
You couldn't blame him though.
School sucked.
And Fridays especially sucked.
It was the worst day of the week. None of his classes aligned with his friends and he had double maths. And because his math teacher seemed to especially hate him, he had spent an extra hour with her in detention.
The only good thing about Friday was that it was the start of the weekend. He could avoid the cursed building and it's inhabitants for the next few days.
Well, not really because he always met up with his friends on weekends but Jungkook liked them so it was cool.
Jungkook shivered as a gust of cold wind blew by. He pulled his jacket closer to himself as his hair flew up with the breeze. He really should have bought a scarf but his scarf was so old and dorky. It actually had micky mouse and goofy all over it. He'd much rather freeze to death then wear it in public.
Luckily he didn't live that far away from school. It was barely a ten minute walk.
Jungkook kept his head down as he speed walked towards his house. A group of older boys passed him but didn't pay him any attention. His tense shoulders sagged in relief. It was better to go unnoticed in this neighbourhood.
He sighed in relief when he reached his dingy house. It was honestly pretty crappy but it was the best Seokjin could afford. Seokjin was the only money maker of the house (he refused to let Jungkook work at all) and so Jungkook wasn't going to complain about the bad state of the house.
Besides if it wasn't for Seokjin, Jungkook would still be in the foster system. Hid older brother had pulled him out as soon as he had turned twenty and had found a stable job and Jungkook was forever thankful.
Even if the house was ugly and their neighbourhood was Crappy.
He pulled his keys out and jammed them into the lock and turned them. The door clicked open and he quickly stepped in before locking the door. Seokjin always ate his ear off if Jungkook forgot to lock the doors. Better safe then sorry.
'Jin hyung!' He called loudly as he tossed his bag pack over the couch. 'I'm home! And I'm really hungry. What're we going to eat?'
There was an incoherent yell back from the stairs and Jungkook shrugged as he made his way into the kitchen. He grabbed the banana and peeled it as he opened the fridge door and bent over to look at the contents.
Tomatoes, milk, good bread, mouldy bread, leftover plain rice, leftover raven that smelled and apples.
Yummy.
'Hyung, there's nothing to eat! Can we order piz-' Jungkook turned around and promptly froze in place as he just now noticed the well dressed stranger sitting awkwardly on their kitchen table. The two just stared at each other until Jungkook snapped back to reality and pointed the banana threateningly at him.
'Who are you again?'
The man opened his mouth to answer but before he could, Seokjin walked into the kitchen, completely dressed on black with a small silver earrings in his ears. He paused and narrowed his eyes at his little brother who was staring at him with his mouth open.
'Kook, why are you pointing a banana at my date?'
Jungkook blinked in confusion. 'Your date-?' his eyes widened as he lowered the banana slowly. 'You're going on a date!'
Seokjin's face reddened and the stranger smiled softly. Jungkook's smile was growing bigger and bigger and he began to bounce on his feet. Seokjin looked at him warily as Jungkook grew more and more excited. Seokjin moved quickly and grabbed Jungkook's arm and began to drag him out of the kitchen as Jungkook talked over his shoulder, shyness all but forgotten.
'What's your name? What do you do? How did you guys meet-?'
'Namjoon, I'll be back in a minute. I just need to settle this idiot.'
Seokjin dragged Jungkook out of the kitchen and up the stairs. He threw his bedroom door opened and pushed jungkook in. Jungkook stumbled in and fell on the floor but it didn't deter his mood. He sat up brightly and grinned at seokjin who rolled his eyes at him.
'You're going on a date!' Jungkook's grin was almost blinding. Seokjin smiled softly at his little brother's excitement. Jungkook had been encouraging him to have some fun and try to find a date. But he was always so busy working to go out and have fun. Besides, no one he had met had interested him or excited him.
Until now.
'How'd you two meet?'
'Remember when I went out with my Co workers for Hani's birthday last week?' Jungkook nodded eagerly. 'Namjoon was there at a bar and he hit on me. Several times. He bought me a couple of drinks, we talked, we made out and now we're going a date.' seokjin smiled at Jungkook's delighted look. 'Keep it in your pants man.'
'I'm not the one who needs that advice.' Jungkook stated, winking. 'Since when have you started making out with strangers? Hyung, do I have to give you a lecture on basic manners and safety precautions?'
'Ha ha.' seokjin said sarcastically. 'Look, I really like him. He's sweet and funny and he's pretty cute too.'
'He's really cute.'
'Thanks.' seokjin grinned happily. 'So do I look okay?' Jungkook raised his eyebrows at seokjin's questions and Seokjin flushed.
'Don't laugh. He dresses really well. I really want to impress Namjoon.'
'You're not referring to him as hyung. How old is he?'
'He's two years younger then me so....21.'
'Nice hyung.'
'Hmm.' seokjin hummed. 'And yes you can order pizza. There's money on the table.'
'Hell yes. I want a pepperoni pizza.'
'Good. Order it.'
'What?' Jungkook's eyes grew wide in disbelief. 'Order it myself?'
'Yes.' when jungkook just stared at him in horror seokjin rolled his eyes at him. 'Stop giving me that look. Its not that terrifying.'
'Yes it is. I don't want to talk to a a stranger on the phone.'
'Then starve.'
'Hyung, just order a pizza please....'
'For the last time no. I can't always order for you.'
'You do it.'
'I'd much rather die.'
'Stop being dramatic, it isn't that hard.'
'How could you betray me like this?' Jungkook asked. He placed a hand on his chest dramatically. 'We're supposed to be brothers.'
'Me making you order pizza yourself does not mean that our relationship has deterred.' seokjin glanced down at his watch and his eyes widened. 'Shit, I'm late. The number is on a pamphlet on the fridge, money is on the table and leave me a few slices. Bye kook.'
'Wait!' Jungkook yelled after him as his brother dashed down the stairs. 'You're really going to do this to me?!?! Hyung!' but there was no reply except for the sound of the door banging close.
Jungkook scoffed in disbelief. How traitorous. He glanced at the small bedside clock on seokjin's bedside. It was almost 5. Jungkook was starving but the prospect of calling the pizza place was making his growling stomach feel like not such a big deal.
Maybe he could survive till seokjin came home??
No, seokjin might not come home alone. And besides he couldn't wait any longer.
Accepting defeat, jungkook trudged down the stairs and back into the kitchen. He pulled the pamphlets off the fridge (which was right beneath a very appropriate pizza magnet) and dialed the number. The over friendly robot voice told him to press 1 if he wanted to place an order and he did so. The bell rang a few times before it stopped and a male spoke over the speaker.
'Hello, thank you for calling Sal's pizza. How may I help you?'
'Hey, I'd like a large pepperoni pizza? And a box of bread sticks.'
'Would you like extra cheese on your pizza, sir?'
'Uh no thank you.'
'Any drinks?'
'No, just the pizza and the bread sticks.'
'Okay. Can you please tell us your address?'
Jungkook recited their home address as he balanced the phone between his shoulder and ear and counted the money lying around. The worker asked for the name of the person ordering and jungkook gave his name distractedly as he counted the bills. There was a few seconds silence before the boy spoke again.
'Alright, sir. Your order will arrive in thirty minutes. Thank you for calling us and have a good day.'
'Thanks, love you.'
Jungkook removed the phone from his ear and pressed the end call button. The screen went blank just as jungkook realised what he had said.
Oh god.
OH GOD
He had just said love you to a total fucking stranger.
Oh my fucking god.
Jungkook could feel his face heating up. He dropped the phone and the bills of money and slowly lowered himself into the chair. He clutched his head in his hands as his cheeks slowly grew redder. Why god, why?
Maybe the guy hadn't heard him. Maybe he had shut the phone before jungkook had managed to say those stupid words. Maybe he had suddenly grown deaf just when jungkook confessed his love to a fucking waiter at Sal's pizza.
This was why he aways had seokjin order. His brother took his awkwardness to lightly.
Jungkook would never eat from there again.
Jungkook rubbed his face and he groaned as the memory of the phone call played over and over in his mind. Life really had it out for him today.
Okay, everything was going to be okay. It was just a mistake. A dumb mistake that they probably won't even remember. And besides, jungkook always saw text posts on social media talking about people's awkward experiences with sale clerks and varietal and waitresses. It wasn't uncommon.
It was just incredibly stupid.
But okay, it wasn't like they knew him. He had ordered over the phone. They didn't know what he looked like. He could just accept the pizza while wearing a ski mask or something so no one would remember him the next time he went to Sal's pizza.
No, that was ridiculous. No one had such a good memory. Sal's pizza dealt with hundreds of customers. There was no way that they would remember him.
Jungkook jumped when the doorbell suddenly rang. He glanced at the clock and his eyes widened in surprise when he realised that he had been brooding for half an hour. He scrambled up and grabbed the bills lying around before hurrying towards his door. The doorbell rang again and he looked through the peephole to see someone wearing the pizza delivery hat.
He took a deep breath. It was just going to be a few minutes interaction. Then he could curl under his blanket with his delicious pizza and just die.
Jungkook unlocked the door and opened it to reveal...quite possibly the cutest pizza boy he had ever seen.
'Hi.' the boy said brightly, smiling amiably. 'I have a pepperoni pizza for... Jeon jungkook?'
'That's me.' Jungkook mumbled. He took the hot pizza box from the other boy. His eyebrows furrowed when he saw that there were no bread rolls.
Should he say something?
YES
'Uh....'
'Something wrong?'
Jungook looked up to meet the boy's eyes and he just about melted. He was cute. He couldn't be more older then jungkook. He had an easy smile and warm chocolate eyes that danced with mirth. He had golden melanin skin and as jungkook watched, he pulled his hat off to reveal smooth lilac hair and then wore the hat back on backwards.
He also had really pretty eyebrows.
Maybe he should stop staring.
'It's just.... I ordered bread rolls too?' Jungkook was starting to feel really self conscious. This boy was so good looking and lean and it was making jungkook have second thoughts about ordering a large pizza.
'Oh! Of course, I almost forgot.' the boy sent him a mischievous grin and jungkook watched as he jogged back to his motorcycle. He pushed open his delivery container bag and pulled out what seemed to be a bouquet. Jungkook's eyebrows furrowed in confusion until he saw what was inside them.
Breads.
His fucking breads.
Arrangers in a a bouquet.
Kill him. Just kill him now.
Jungkook was so tempted to just slam the door shut and run the hell away.
Cute delivery boy jogged back towards him with a huge shit eating grin (which jungkook no longer found cute). He cleared his throat as he reached the 16 year old, obviously enjoying Jungkook's embarrassment. He held the bouquet of breads out delicately.
'For you love.'
Jungkook was melting.
His face was as red as a a firetruck as he set the pizza down on a small table on the side and grabbed the bouquet. He shoved the money into the other's hand with an embarrassed 'thanks' and promptly slammed the door.
He had barely taken a step when the doorbell rang again. He groaned. What was the delivery boy going to do now?
Jungkook decided to be threatening. He didn't think he could handle any more teasing.
He ripped the door opened and glared up at the delivery boy. Said boy was pretty tall and jungkook just about reached his cheek. He actually had the audacity to smile down cheekily at jungkook. The nerve.
'What?'
'Don't you want your change back?'
'No.' Jungkook murmured as he began to close the door. 'It's your tip.'
The delivery boy reached his hand out and placed it on the door, stopping jungkook from closing it.' Well thanks.' be gave jungkook another wide smile and jungkook's heart fluttered. 'Can I give you a tip too?'
Jungkook tilted his head in confusion. 'Uh...'
'Don't be so embarrassed about this. You're really cute so it's endearing.'
Was this guy trying to make his face melt off?
'Uh....thanks?' He said hesitantly. And then, suddenly overcome with a small wave of confidence he added. 'Isn't that two tips?'
Cute delivery boy raised his eyebrows. 'Huh, I guess so.'
He turned around and began to walk away. 'Enjoy your pizza jeon jungkook! And be sure to ask about me the next time you call Sal's pizza. My name is Taehyung.'
'Will do.' Jungkook whispered softly. Taehyung sat back on his motor cycle (it was hot even if there was a huge carrier attatched to it and had pizza stickers attatched) and actually winked at him.
Jungkook slammed the door shut before taehyung could see him turn colours.
What the actual fuck had just happened.
He dropped his head to his chin and noticed a small piece of paper stick between the buttery golden bread. His eyebrows pinched together in suppose and he pulled it out. It was slightly greasy and jungkook opened it up with with some difficult. Inside were just three words.
Love you too
There was a signature and several hearts run aprons the page too. Jungkook closed his eyes.
Why was his life like this?
~~~
'Jungkook! Hyung's home!'
Jungkook lifted his head from his pillow we're he had been watching brooklyn nine nine. He pulled his headphones off and jumped off his bed and walked downstairs. Seokjin was leaning against the counter and drinking water. There was a bouquet of flowers next to him.
Jungkook raised his eyebrows in surprise. He gestured to the beautiful roses and daisies with an impressed look. 'I take it the date went well?'
Seokjin smiled as he sat the glass back down. He nodded happily. 'Kook, it was amazing. Namjoon is amazing. Everything about this evening was amazing.'
'So you guys hit off?'
'Not at first. He's really awkward. But we both ended up getting a little drunk and then boom. We were getting along great and laughing and.... Jeez, I think I'm in love.'
'Damn. Don't scare him off.' Jungkook laughed. 'Are you going to see him again?'
'Yup! I have a two hour break on Wednesday and we're going to hang out again.' seokjin places a hand on his chest with a sloppy grin. 'Kook, he has dimples!'
'The perfect man.' Jungkook said sarcastically. 'So where did you eat?'
'We went to a rooftop barbecues place but I ended up not eating that much. At first I was too self conscious and then I got busy drinking and then we were too busy entertain each other to focus on the food. I'm starving.'
'Well, I left you like 7 slices so enjoy. I'm going to bed.'
'Mm kay. Night Jungkook.'
'Night hyung.'
Jungkook was just climbing up the stairs when seokjin called out to him, sounding confused. 'Hey Kook?'
'Yeah?'
'Why have you arranged the bread rolls in a bouquet.'
Jungkook froze. Crap, he had forgotten to undo the dumb bouquet.
He was never going to live this down.
The small folded paper in his pocket suddenly felt heavier as he slowly turned to face his very confused brother.
