Work Text:

The dark clouds covered the deep blue above, preventing any ray of light piercing them. Preventing any hope of their ever becoming a good ending to this day. This day, a storm of heavy rain clouds covering the sky, their gloomy mood make their raindrops feel heavier than an anvil with every drip drop of water. This day, heroes come together to save innocent civilians from the villains that terrorize them, feeding fear into their minds and chaining down their emotions of a hero ever to come save them, a hope only a true hero could provide as they evacuate the civilians running rampant across the streets; away from the loud noises of gunfire and explosions; away from the maniacal laugh a crazed villain could provide as they scream bloody murder during their killings, and away from their saviors fighting to protect the meaning of justice. This day……..heroes die, and so did their symbol of peace.

Standing along the traveling blood, he walked. His heavy steps hitting against the ground, his boots sounded louder than the raindrops that impinged the ground rapidly. He walked alone, his face shadowed by a downcasted glare, the rainwater drenched his hero suit, weighing him down like steel chains dropping anchor to his steps. Each step was louder the closer he got, until finally the sound stopped. He raised his head slightly up, his eyes gazing to the pierced body that laid before him.

Katsuki Bakugou, his eyes spoke the bloody murder only he could show, his face scrunches and his hands clenched tightly into his well known fist. A deep breath he took, then atlas he spoke. “Goddammit….DEKU!” He yelled, staring down his once rival as blood drifted into the sewers, rain washing them both of their blood. His eyes bloodshot as he locked them with Deku’s own. “HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?”

Izuku Midoriya, laid helpless against a concrete debris, trapped he was with seven metal rods stuck to his body. All pierced through him. His blood leaks from the seven holes through him. The shine always held in his eyes when he rescues people had weakened. His brilliant smile that matched the original symbol of peace, the hope he had always declared, was now a frail, feeble smile. His hero costume battered and bruised much like both their bodies, only he had the dying one. Midoriya looked at his long time friend, his long time rival in the eyes and smiled. “Sorry Kacchan.” His voice sounded hoarse, due to the amount of blood loss perhaps. “You know me...I couldn’t just stand there and watch you die…”

This line of dialogue enraged the boy, dropping to his knees, the right broken metal knee guard shattered once it landed. There, Bakugo screamed. The first horn he sang. “GODDAMN YOU DEKUUU!” Hammering his fist into the grounds where he set off his well know quirk. The water weakened his quirk, washing off his sweat. A little poof of smoke escaped from his grasp.”I would have survived!”

Midoriya looks at him, lightly shaking his head in disagreement. They both knew if he hadn’t jumped in within time, the roles would have been in reverse. “I wouldn’t have lived with myself, if I let a single person die. That included you Kacchan…”

Bakugou’s arrogance didn’t allow it. He didn’t want to allow it. Now, his childhood friend, the one he despised for being inferior to him for all their childhood years, became his hated rival through their first year in U.A, but soon after became his respectable one. Now Deku, laid before him leaned against the concrete, with rods that were meant for Bakugou if he hadn’t shown up. “You idiot…..” Tears would not stream his face, he would not cry even if his friend was dying. His friend, the thought was unfamiliar to him, but it didn’t leave. For his whole life time, they had always been friends. The second horn he sang. “YOU FUCKING IDIOT!” Unclenching his hands he set off a much stronger explosion, destroying the debris beside him, either obliterating it or flying it out of his vicinity.

Flashes of the fight kicked into their minds almost simultaneously. Bakugou was in the center, fighting back against the villains that were doing harm, unknowing there was a far deeper plan to this attack. Multiple cities were being attacked, but Musutafu, Bakugou and Midoriya’s home city was the one that was most severe. He returned to Bakugou, only to watch the proclaimed #1 being beaten by powerful villains. Among those villains was Shigaraki. With his quirk, ‘All For One’. The fight was a losing battle, even with Midoriya joined in the fray, the villains were too calculative, a three versus two matchup. The villains had the upper hand till the fight was in the heroes favor. But it was that favor that brought over-confidence, just for a split second. A split second that could have killed Bakugou had it not been for Midoriya jumping in, taking his place.

Bakugou let out an outcry, angered beyond belief, saved yet again by the one he had sworn to beat. He felt weak. “GODDAMN YOU DEKU!” He hit the ground repeatedly. “How could you…HOW FUCKING COULD YOU!?” Looking straight into his eyes, his filled with anger and sadness, while Midoriya’s own was filled with….peace. This angered Bakugou more, his blood boiling. “You could have survived...YOU COULD HAVE SURVIVED!” Looking back down, he hit his hand against the hole he made, shaking his head in arrogant denial.

Midoriya chuckled, closing his eyes as they felt heavy to hold up. “I could have….but then you wouldn’t have Kacchan….I couldn’t just watch you-”

“Shut up!” Bakugou shot his head up, looking at his face. His arms slowly raised, a crackling heard, and through Midoriya’s eyelids, he could see Bakugou’s light. And the third horn he sang. “SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU DYING NERD!” Bakugou unleashed the charged power of his quirk, blasting to the sides of Deku in an outrage of power. He screamed like he always does, blasting debris, destroying street signs and the road. All in his fit of rage. No, all in a fit of sadness.

Midoriya while his eyes closed, could feel the breeze and warmth Bakugou’s explosions caused, the light bright through his eyelids. His smile seemed to have brighten slightly. He could already see a new hope for the world when he is gone.

Felt like minutes have passed, time slowed for the two as Bakugou lets out his built up emotions. He trained the hardest, fought and learned to experience what it meant to really be a hero. His reason that drives him to be the number one, the reason he had to keep pushing harder and harder to never let surpass him, was now slowly dying in front of him.

No more loud sounds came, no more debris flying, and no more explosions. His hands dropped to hit the ground, and he closes his eyes shut, shaking his head. He knew, Bakugou knew exactly what was going to come next. “You idiot….Don’t you dare…”

He watches his figure, quiet as he could be. Midoriya could feel his vision fading, his heart rate decreasing, soon no longer will there be a pulse occurring in his body. He raises his hand up to his head, wincing from the pain of the metal rod in his shoulder. “Kacchan…”

“Don’t you fucking dare do this to me.” Emotion was heard stronger there.

He plucked a small strand of his hair, lowering his hand. How easy it felt to just drop it. He tried extending his arm as best as he could, keeping it up as long as he can. “Kacchan, I-”

“DON’T YOU FUCKING DARE DO THIS TO ME!” Looking up at him, Bakugou felt something in his chest drop. Shaking the feeling he leaned up, scooching over to him. “YOU ARE GOING TO LIVE GODDAMMIT!” He grabbed two of the metal rods, then yanked pulled on them yanking them out.

Izuku groaned in pain, coughing it blood. “Kacchan-”

“YOU WILL NOT DIE! I REFUSE!” He pulled out another, and another, tossing them away and pulling out the rest. “LIVE DAMMIT!”

Izuku forcibly leaned up and grabbed his wrist before he pulled out the last two. “KACCHAN-” Blood splattered on Bakugou’s face, his eyes wide with horror. Izuku leaned back down against the concrete, now soon to his death bed. More blood pooled out of him now. He felt so much weaker.

Bakugou looked over Midoriya, his eyes looking down at his hands. Blood, his childhood friend’s blood was on him. Desperation for him to live clouded his mind only for a second, no help would arrive to save him cause of the evacuation all over the city, heroes gone to fight off the villains. Nobody would come to them, within time anyway. Bakugou slumped over at this. No hope for his friend, a term he would never use to define his relationship with Izuku Midoriya, to live another day.

Panting lightly, retaining any breath left before he passes out. Before he dies of blood loss. Izuku raises his hand once more, his finger and thumb holding the torch to the peace all heroes dream of. Closing his eyes to take a moment, then opening them before he speaks. He looks over at Bakugou’s defeated frame, putting on a smile for him. “Katsuki Bakugou.” Kacchan’s full name. “Will you, take the sacred torch...and become the tenth holder, the tenth user for One For All?” Izuke felt heavy as he finished it, his vision starting to get blurry, his senses getting weaker. He had to hurry. “Kacchan...please, take it….”

Bakugou tensed as he spoke the line. He didn’t want to hear it, he wanted to clap his ears shut and not have to listen to this. He wanted nothing more than to blast Deku’s face with his strongest ultimate move. He did not. Bakugou listened to him, listened to his dying voice speak out the line that he knew would resonate within his mind forever if he didn’t accept. Leaning up slowly, he moved his right knee up, planting his right foot to the ground. He raises his head to look at him, then moves his right arm up against his knee. He kneeled in mark of respect for his friend. “I accept dammit!” He moves his left hand to snatch the hair strand of Deku’s, opening his mouth and putting it in. Bakugou swallows, then punches the ground with is left hand, looking down once more.

Midoriya smiles fully, letting his hand drop to his knees, he looks at him one last time with clear vision. “Thank you….Kacchan…” Izuku leans his head back, looking up at the sky. Rainwater felt much softer to him, it felt welcomed as each drop touches his face, caressing him as his body and senses slowly shut down. He was at peace finally, and so he let his eyelids drop, and his body go limp. Izuku Midoriya dies peacefully, knowing his friend would carry on the torch.

Bakugou after a few moments, raises his head up to look a his deceased friend. He pushes himself up, and looks down at him. Deku’s smile irritated him. “You damn nerd,” he muttered quietly, clicking his teeth. His tears mixed with the small streams going down his face.
