Chapter Text
Yoongi was pretty nervous when he first joined bts.
Reasonably so. Anyone would be, meeting six new guys that he’s gonna have to live with for years. And on top of that, he was told that they’re all alphas. As an omega, he has a right to be a bit scared.
As soon as you turn thirteen, you present as either an alpha, a beta, or an omega. Society treats you different after that. Alphas egos get fed, and omegas have theirs torn down. It only gets worse once heats and ruts begin. The first one comes after you turn 20, and Yoongi is not looking forward to being around alphas having their first rut. Alphas get dangerous after the first rut, in Yoongi’s experience. Even more dangerous if you’re an omega who’s had a heat before. He doesn’t understand why he is being put at risk like this.
Usually, groups are well balanced, with alphas, betas, and omegas. A few of each. It helps calm the rampant hormones, having betas to balance out the alphas and omegas. Yoongi just had to be accepted by a company that didn’t care about pack dynamics. “You don’t have to become a pack if it doesn’t work out” and “No one says a pack needs alphas, betas, and omegas. It’s just more common” were lines that the company told Yoongi after he complained.
He would just have to make the best of it. This was his dream, he wasn’t about to toss it to the side just because he was gonna have to live with a few alphas. No alpha could ruin this for him.
Yoongi pauses when he reaches the door to his new dorm. He can already smell alpha emanating from behind the door. They beat him here.
He fumbles a bit with the lock, but gets it open before the approaching steps beat him to it. When he finally wrenches the door open, the first thing he sees is a beautiful, warm boy, clad only in his boxers and a t-shirt. The other seems to already have made himself at home.
Smiling, the stranger reaches his hand out for a handshake. “Hello! I’m Jung Hoseok, alpha!” The guy, Hoseok, is beaming at him, seeming absolutely carefree. Proudly announcing that he is an alpha, while not wearing any pants. Yoongi wishes he had that kind of confidence.
Yoongi returns the handshake. “Min Yoongi, omega. The only one according to the company,” Yoongi rolls his eyes, letting go of Hoseok’s hand. Yoongi brushes past Hoseok, heading further into the dorm. “Are we the only ones here so far?”
Hoseok follows him. “No, actually, we were just waiting on you. Everyone’s in the living room, just keep heading the way you are.” Yoongi listens to him, arriving in the living room quickly. Fuck these dorms are small.
The smell of alpha in the room is borderline overwhelming. They’re all joking around and rough-housing, making Yoongi feel alienated already. How is he possibly going to fit into this group? He’s not gonna be able to make the immediate connection that they can, all being alphas. It makes him wanna turn back, but he knows he can’t. If this is part of the path to his dream, he has to make the most of it.
The alphas smell him come in, all turning their heads to look at him. The room goes quiet. They all look at him expectantly, and he realizes they’re waiting for him to speak. “H-Hi, I’m Min Yoongi, omega.” Yoongi hates that he stuttered, already looking weak in front of the alphas. At least none of the alphas mention it.
Hoseok speaks up behind him. “You guys need to introduce yourselves! Here, Yoongi, come sit by me,” Hoseok says as he leads Yoongi to the couple of bean bag chairs off the side of the sofa. After they both take a seat, the others begin their introductions.
The ultra handsome man with the plush lips is named Seokjin. The big alpha with the dimples is Namjoon. He’s the leader. The kid that’s somehow still bigger than him, curse his omega genes, is named Jungkook. The alpha that looks like he should be a model with those cheekbones is Taehyung. And the pretty one that seems to be close to his height, thank god, is Jimin.
He can remember that. Hopefully.
The others go back to talking with each other, Yoongi chiming in every once in a while. Seokjin eventually orders takeout for all of them, and they have their first dinner together.
As the night goes on, Yoongi starts to become more comfortable around the alphas—his band mates. The closer it gets to bedtime though, the more nervous he gets. They haven’t discussed any roommates or room assignments. He’s not sure who he’ll have to be staying with. Together. In the same room. At night.
Yoongi approaches Namjoon, sitting in the spot next to him on the couch. He’s talking to Jimin on the other side of him, so Yoongi tugs on the sleeve of his shirt to get his attention. Once he finishes his thought to Jimin, he turns to Yoongi. “Oh hey Yoongi. Do you need something? Everything alright?” Namjoon asks, staring into Yoongi’s eyes.
The whole ‘butterflies in your stomach’ thing is real. Yoongi felt that.
“No-yes. I mean—I’m fine! I’m just wondering, is it already decided who everyone is rooming with or-?” Yoongi trails off, waiting for Namjoon to hopefully explain the sleeping situation.
“Oh yeah! I forgot to tell you since I went over the situation with the others before you got here. We decided since we only have two rooms, one room with three bunks and one room with just one bunk, we would let you have the smaller room. Jungkook volunteered to room with you if you didn’t want to be alone, though. I think that’d be best for both of you, so that you don’t feel isolated. And Jungkook is the youngest, so he won’t be as troublesome since he won’t get his first rut for a couple years from now.” Namjoon bites his lip nervously, wanting Yoongi to say something, anything.
But fuck. He hadn’t even thought about ruts. He definitely needs that smaller room. Jungkook should be fine to room with him, but he’ll have to kick him out during his heats. Which will be fine since there are three bunks in the other room. Maybe this’ll all be okay.
“Uh, yeah. That sounds fine. I’m cool with rooming with him.” Yoongi nods, mostly to himself because Namjoon is already turning to announce it to everyone.
“Hey guys! Yoongi said he’s good with rooming with Jungkook in the smaller room, so the rest of us are together in the big room! Go claim your beds!” With that, the others start racing down the hall, shouting which bunk they want, all aiming to get a top bunk. Jungkook stays behind, looking over to Yoongi.
“Hey, Yoongi, I’m glad you wanna bunk with me. I hope I can be a good roommate for you,” Jungkook bowd slightly. Yoongi giggles at that.
“You don’t have to be so formal Jungkook, we’re roomies now.Top or bottom?” Yoongi asks, grabbing his bag, getting ready to head to their shared room.
Jungkook chokes slightly, but quickly recovers. “I kinda wanted the top bunk, but I mean, I’ll let you have it if you want.” Jungkook replies, following Yoongi to their new room.
Of course the kid wants the top bunk. Cute. “No, I don’t mind. I know I’m probably gonna be in the studio a lot, so that’ll be better for us both anyway.” Yoongi throws his bag on the bottom bunk, and watches Jungkook try not to squeal with happiness. Cute.
Everyone gets ready for bed, knowing their new life together starts tomorrow. Recordings, dance practice, meetings, everything. Yoongi isn’t sure how it’s all gonna work out, but he does have some hope. These guys seem nice enough, for alphas. He’ll find out how nice soon enough.
