Remember when we used to play hide and seek? And I'd always spend too long trying to find you so you'd end up asleep in a cupboard or somewhere? Remember when you stayed there all day? Remember when no one managed to find you? Remember how, when you finally came out, it was always for food. You'd go straight back to sleep afterwards. You'd never tell anyone where you hid. Remember?
Remember how we laid on the hill outside our houses and star gazed? You always told me that my eyes were brighter than all of the vibrant, burning balls of light, twinkling in a sea of darkness. You always told me that I was your light and that you'd always be here to see it. You said you'd be next to me, another lost star lighting up the dark, reminding me that I'll always be loved. Reminding me that you would always be there, holding my hand. Remember? Do you remember how it felt when I laid in your arms, wishing that time would just stop so I could savour the moment just one second more.
Remember what I told you then? I said I'd always remember you. I told you that you were the most important person in my life. You laughed and called me by my nickname, your eyes crinkling at the corners as they twinkled, brighter and brighter. Your whole face seemed to light up as you hugged me tight. Sunshine, I love you too. I'll always be here for you. Remember? Do you remember?
Do you remember how I held out my smallest finger and said pinky promise? Then you'd give me that gummy smile that I love so much. That smile that I would trade everything in the world for to see again. Remember how you said of course and linked our hands together. You kissed me and fell asleep on my shoulder, still hugging me tight. Remember when you mumbled something under your breath just before you fell asleep? I didn't hear what you said. I would give anything to know now. I wondered in the morning but I never asked because you made me a surprise breakfast in bed, then you took me out on a surprise date.
Remember when we walked through the park that night? Your hand and mine, clasped together making a larger, brighter star, lighting up the dark. I remember how you smiled at me. That smile could light up more than a thousand lives. I remember when you turned to me. You were glowing, I remember smiling back, my heart aching with how much I love you. You took my hand and reached into your pocket. I saw a tiny velvet box. I remember how my breath caught as you opened it slowly. The light that reflected from over head made the ring glitter, like a million shining stars. You looked at me so lovingly. I remember how you looked so devastatingly handsome, so sure of our love. I love you. Those three words, so short but filled with so much meaning. Those three words conveyed all of our smiles, hugs, conversations, all of our interactions. Those three words asked me a question. Will you marry me? I remember how your face lit up when I said I love you too, of course. I remember how you slid the ring onto my finger, the silver band hugging me tight, as if it was meant to be. I remember grabbing you, kissing you, laughing, smiling. I remember an explosion of happiness.
I remember twinkling fairy lights. I remember watching you say your vows. I remember saying mine. I remember when I started crying, how you started to tear up. I remember when you tried to make me laugh by falling over a chair. It worked. I was so hysterical I started to cry even more. I remember when we hugged each other on the dance floor. You whispered you're my everything in my ear as we swayed to the music. I smiled and said, you're my life. I remember how everything was okay.
I remember screeching cars. I remember seeing you next to me, covered in so much blood. I remember you smiling once more. I love you so much. I remember pulling you out of the wreckage. I remember as you closed your eyes, hands caressing my face one last time.
I remember crying. I remember breaking. I remember my very being shattering into tiny fragments. I remember a part of me dying as I watched you dying in my arms. I remember screaming. I remember the empty feeling that won't go away. I remember when I didn't want to go on anymore. I remember when I looked to the stars and there you were. You, I saw you looking down from the dark sea, winking and laughing, telling me to move on. Telling me that we'll meet again. I remember when I found peace. I remember. I remember Min Yoongi. I remember my best friend. My lover. My life. I remember smiling back as I said good bye for the last time. We're not lost, I know exactly where you are, and you know where I am. We are the stars who found each other, so we'll just have to do it again. I love you, forever and always. I'll never forget you. I'll always remember.
