Sometimes I write. Sometimes I draw. Most of the time I just dissociate. Here are a couple of my favorite deliberately-unhelpful quotes about creativity:

“There’s nothing to writing. You just sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” - Ernest Hemingway, who probably got it from Red Smith, who probably got it from someone else, who—

“Just chip away everything that doesn’t look like an elephant.” - more a saying than a quote; a similar one about the Statue of David is attributed to Michelangelo, but really this “quote” is just the latest iteration of a rather silly saying that has been present among sculptors for a long time.
