Summary
Stevie Rogers and Bucky Barnes went to high school together. Bucky being this huge ladies' man, Stevie hated him and they never spoke much, even if he was secretly pinning for her.
Years later, Stevie is in art school and Bucky is a big shot detective and they get set up on a blind date. Things get complicated from there.
What starts as a blind date orchastrated by smart friends turns into something that sits just under the surface of everything they say to each other. Sarcasm, deflections, and questionable decisions involving laser tag slowly evolves into something that no one wants to define (Thats not true, everyone sees what it is, Stevie needs not to define it)
What they agree on: this doesn’t count.
The problem is that neither of them is very good at pretending.

"Of course I am," Sam answers the same time Bucky responds with, "Absolutely not."
Raynor sighs, "Well it goes like this. Suppose that while your sleeping, a miracle happens, when you wake up, what's something you would like to see that would make your life better?"
"In my miracle," Bucky starts, throwing her head towards Sam, "she would talk less."
Sam wants to agree, wants to snip back with a similarly biting 'that exactly what I was going to say.' because truly, Sam's life would be a lot better if Bucky learnt to shut the fuck up. She doesn't say that, she doesn't say anything at all really. Sam doesn't know what she could have that would make her train wreck of a life feel even slightly better, she can't think of one thing. Not getting the shield back, or stopping the flag smashers, not Steve coming back from the dead, not getting enough money to keep her family's boat, not Barnes fucking off to the most remote corners of the earth, nothing. In Sam's miracle, she does not see herself waking up and that causes a fear to push itself up against all her anger.
