Summary
That hadn’t been a lie - he wasn’t a liar, and everybody knew this - but it had been a half-truth. He didn’t care about scaring Adam off. He did find himself caring more and more if Adam was around, which was concerning.
What was more concerning, however, was the fact that he seemed physically unable to write anything that wasn’t about Adam.
Every song he’d scrawled after fever dreams woke him up at three in the morning were odes to Adam’s lightly freckles skin, to the worry lines already forming at his brow. Every bridge that got stuck in his head during long drives were sonnets to the throaty sound Adam made when he laughed, like he was surprised he was laughing. Every lyric related back to Adam in some way, and it was driving him out of his mind.
[AKA the prequal to 'Better Off As Lovers (And Not the Other Way Around', telling the tale of Ronan falling in love with Adam and being so repressed about it that the only outlet he has is writing songs about him]
