Summary
Will, an organic, works for the Artifice Behavioral Analysis Unit wherein he investigates heinous crimes involving synthetic persons; including homocides or syntheticides, should the victim be an Artifice. His high rate of success stems from being an empath, a rare and invaluable trait that developed in humans as a result of excess technology, granting him the ability to read the emotions of both humans and Artifices. That same talent, coupled with a compromised immune system born of long-term suppressant use, causes Will to contract a brain fever that leaves him with only two options: give up his work in the field or have an Artificial Neural Assistant implanted in his head.

Summary
In a future where most people are fitted with noninvasive brain implants tailored to their job, Hannibal quickly grew frustrated with the almost stagnated pace of development and decided to start his own experiments. Building on hardware already in an individual’s head was easy in theory, but in practice it was proving more complicated than he thought.
Six years ago, Will became the latest victim of the Ripper, waking up in the hospital with his head cut open again and had to relearn how to control his own brain. He was allowed to join the investigation four years later on the condition that he meet with a psychiatrist. It had helped him deal with the psychological trauma from his abduction, but it wasn’t helping the glitches and malfunctions that were starting to become worryingly frequent.

In order to solve the problem of violence once and for all, humans have employed a mandatory program of genetic engineering to increase the responsiveness of the amygdala. But something has gone wrong, and murders - which humans should not be capable of committing - begin to occur. Set in the distant future after humanity has started exploring space and made contact with intelligent alien species, this AU follows Will Graham, whose sensitivity and empathy exceeds even most altered humans’ capacities. He has been sent to the space station Delta 5 to investigate killings. Despite his wishes, he is paired with the NeuroPsych, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, to find the killer, and to investigate the results of the unexpected genetic drift.
