Chapter Text
When he gets home Oda goes for the closet in his bedroom that still holds every piece of equipment from his days as an assassin. He finds himself holding the weapons delicately, almost tenderly. He understands the necessity of killing Gide, now, but that doesn’t make the burn of his broken vow fade.
He doesn’t notice how much time passes, moving old guns and ammunition and tactical gear onto the bed, until he hears the front door open, and freezes. When he glances out the window he sees the sky, still lit with tendrils of light but fading into inky darkness.
Who would be coming by this late? He knows Dazai and Chuuya both have keys, and he’s aware that as a member of the Port Mafia he doesn’t have any real privacy. Even so, there’s a short list of people who would invite themselves into his house.
The footsteps pause, presumably to take off their shoes, before trailing into the kitchen, and approaching the bedroom door.
Oda inhales, seeing if he can smell who it is, and he’s hit by a wall of saccharine Omegan scent.
Dazai, then, on the very cusp of his heat.
Oda slips off the tactical vest he’s adjusting, and tosses it onto the bed. He watches the door carefully, as it creaks open to reveal Dazai. He’s wearing his usual work attire but he looks overheated. His coat hangs from his hand, trailing on the floor.
Oda doesn’t realize he’s getting hard until he folds his hands in front of his crotch and surprises himself by brushing against his erection.
“Mori sent me home,” Dazai explains softly. “Please don’t… Don’t go.”
Oda stares silently for longer than he cares to admit, perverse curiosity keeping him frozen. Dazai wants him to stay . Is he worried that Oda is too angry to kill Gide, that he’s thinking too emotionally to win? Is it that he wants Oda to stay?
“Odasaku?”
Oda blinks.
He wants to stay. He wants to press Dazai into the mattress and lap at his dripping pussy until he’s crying. He wants to stretch him open carefully, slowly, on his fingers until Dazai is begging for Oda to fuck him. He wants to knot him and claim him and breed him and hide him away from the world, just like his Alpha side has begged him to for years now.
He can’t, because he has to kill Gide. After a deep sigh, Dazai breaks the silence.
“We’re still looking for Gide.”
Oda shakes his head. “I know where he is. I’ll be gone for a few days. The house will be yours.”
Dazai takes a step closer, releasing another wave of his scent. Oda’s hands clench into fists. Even now his scent is the most tantalizing thing Oda has ever smelled.
“I won’t need it. I’m going with you to stop Gide.” Oda almost laughs out loud- almost. He catches himself and instead sighs.
“We both know you’re strong, but an Omega in heat is a liability,” he says. “He’s an Alpha, too, you know.”
Dazai snorts. “I’m perfectly capable of being lucid enough to help, or defend myself if need be.” He looks incredibly nonplussed, eyes narrowed as he stares Oda down from across the room.
Oda nods in agreement. “I know.”
“Then what are you trying to say?” Dazai asks.
“I’m trying-,” Oda starts, but he isn’t sure what he’s trying to do. “I need to- I want to protect you.”
Dazai snorts, hands curling into fists at his sides. “I was perfectly fine without you, Odasaku. I don’t need an Alpha to take pity on me now.”
“That’s not-,” Oda tries to explain, but Dazai laughs, crossing his arms in front of his chest. Dazai stares at him placidly. He looks like this is what he expected. Oda’s heart aches.
“Go, Odasaku,” he says, face softening. “Good luck with Gide.”
Oda’s eyes flit down to the ground, and even though it’s his bedroom Oda makes himself scarce, gathering all of his prepared weapons and armor.
Each step towards the door feels like a death sentence. Oda wants to- needs to kill Gide as closure. To bring justice to his lost pups. Losing Dazai to get that justice? It feels wrong. It feels like leaving his arm behind, or maybe it’s more like leaving a piece of his soul.
He knows Dazai isn’t his Omega. That’s been made incredibly clear to him over the last three years. Dazai is not someone to be tamed, but someone who submits.
Would he even want Oda, after everything?
Oda settles in the living room, spreading out all of his things again so he can start loading weapons and then holsters. Once everything is spread out across the coffee table he sits back on the floor, leaning against the couch, and lets his eyes fall shut. Dazai’s scent is still thick here, although he’s not fully in heat yet. Oda breathes it in, lets the Omega pheromones soothe him.
Eventually he decides he’s prepared enough for tonight, so he pushes himself up onto the couch and toes off his shoes. He hadn’t realized they were still on, when he’d gotten home half-delirious.
The couch isn’t his favorite place to sleep, but he shoves the pillows into the corner and pulls the blanket from where it’s draped over the back of the couch. It’ll do for tonight. Through bleary eyes he sets an alarm on his own phone, setting it on the coffee table, along with the map that contains the address for Mimic’s hideout.
Oda is restless for most of the night, turning back and forth and laying half awake as the minutes tick by. It’s not excitement that curls in his stomach, preventing him from falling properly asleep; agitation would be more accurate. Images of the pups, Gide, and Dazai flash across his eyes when he closes them.
When his alarm finally goes off he quickly reaches to shut it off, and moves into a sitting position. He scrubs calloused hands over his face, forcing the sleep from his eyes.
Even if he could go into his bedroom, Oda isn’t sure he would bother. The clothes he’s wearing are sufficient as far as his assassiantion attempt requires, so he slides his shoes back on and picks up from where he left off readying his weapons.
By the time he’s done sunlight pours in through the windows, and Dazai’s scent is coming in waves. He’ll be fully in heat then, and Oda likely won’t be able to see him again for several days.
If there’s one thing that he regrets about meeting Dazai it’s how easy his ruts used to be. He’s sure Dazai would say the same, about his heats. Oda used to be able to ride them out over the weekend with little more than a fever. The last time he went into a rut, he spent a week in bed, alternating jerking off every few hours and sticking his cock in a toy to knot, and even that only soothed his aching body enough for him to sleep a few hours. Dazai probably goes through something similar, based on the intensity of the scent that pours from the bedroom.
Once he’s safely loaded all his gear Oda sits for a moment, considering. He wants to knock on the door and give Dazai a proper goodbye. Whether or not he comes back their lives will change forever, and that deserves some acknowledgement.
Dazai has locked himself behind a flimsy bedroom door, but somehow it doesn’t feel like that. It feels like Dazai has built a tower, and Oda is desperately trying to reach the top of the staircase. He’s out of reach, hidden away in Oda’s bedroom despite the strained peace between.
Oda rises from the couch and looks at his reflection in the window. He looks almost normal, except for the bulk around his torso. It’s nothing his coat won’t hide.
He pauses at the front door, looking back at the bedroom door. He half expects Dazai to peer out from behind the door and ask him to stay again, but Oda understands that he’s lost that chance, now. Dazai will suffer through this heat alone, and maybe the next and the next for the rest of his life. Oda will wonder every time if Dazai thinks of him at his most vulnerable.
Oda steps outside, into the sunlight, and tries to push thoughts of Dazai aside. If he can’t be with his Omega, he wants to prove that he’s capable, and Dazai is right; he needs to be objective, rational. Gide is strong, possibly stronger than Oda, in terms of brute strength, which means Oda will have to rely on strategy.
The address isn’t very far from his house. He wonders absently if Gide did that on purpose. The walking is, strangely, simultaneously soothing and nerve-wracking, and Oda tries to clear his mind.
He finds himself at the start of a long dirt road. Visible in the trees is the shape of a large mansion, and so after checking the map again he starts down the road. He moves slowly, listening to every noise that surrounds him, expecting to be ambushed, but eventually he comes into sight of the house, and he can’t sense anyone nearby.
Oda is on guard as he approaches the entrance, a set of grand double doors. He's expecting them to be locked, but when he reaches out and pulls one open it goes smoothly, letting him into the foyer. It looks different than he was expecting, although he can’t place how. He moves quickly, and quietly, but despite the lack of noise even from outside, he can't hear anything or anyone else around him.
The foyer opens into a hallway. There are several visible door frames, but none of them have doors. Oda stops at the first one, on the left, and finds what should be a dining room, but the room is entirely empty. No table, no chairs, nothing. He returns to the hall, glances into the room across the hall to find an empty living room, and looks for the next door.
He follows the empty rooms until he reaches a large staircase, and tentatively he starts to climb it.
By the time he makes it all the way to the top floor, he feels steady, grounded. It’s a familiar feeling, not unlike preparing for a hit. He supposes this is a hit, of sorts, although the risk is his own life, rather than losing some money.
He opens the final door by kicking it, on guard before he's even inside the room. Before he can process what’s in the room in front of him, he sees a tall figure with white hair, so he reaches for a holster and pulls out one of his handguns.
“I see you,” Oda says softly. He moves calmly through the room, keeping the gun trained in front of him with his finger on the trigger. It’s a grand ballroom, with a massive crystal chandelier hanging above them. Large windows overlook the city and fill the room with early morning sunlight. The carpet is plush red. It’ll hide the blood stains.
Gide stays hidden, but his voice is surprisingly close when he speaks.
“I’ll admit, I’m disappointed you came armed. I thought you’d want to fight me more traditionally.” Oda hears rustling behind him but resists the urge to look. It’s probably a ploy, to distract him and allow Gide a fatal shot.
“I gave up on tradition a long time ago,” Oda says, and it’s true. He’d given up on tradition the moment Dazai crawled into his life, half dead on the front step, before killing three men in cold blood to protect Oda. He’d given up tradition the first time someone asked him if he was a father after seeing him with the pups; nodding happily as the pups chattered away at his feet, thrilled to be recognized as a provider. He’d given up tradition when he’d walked from an Omega in heat, in his bed-who, by all measures, he had every right to claim and mate- if for the sole reason that Dazai was so much more than just an Omega in ways that Oda had never been able to put into words.
“I just want you dead,” he admits. “I want my pups back, but if I can’t have that your head will have to do.” From the corner of his eye he sees a flicker of white and turns, only to see a sheet draped over what he figures is a statue. Bastard.
Gide laughs, making Oda flinch just slightly.
“Put down your weapons, and face me like an Alpha.”
The silence that follows is tense. It’s a stupid idea; he’s playing right into Gide’s hand, and despite how insistent Gide was that Oda had to kill him and end Mimic, he doesn’t think Gide actually wants to die.
On the other hand, something primal in him wants to taste Gide’s blood as he watches the man’s eyes go glassy and his chest still. He wants to watch Gide scream as Oda digs his thumbs into the man’s eyes, leaving him dazed and defenseless. He wants to bathe himself in the victorious blood of his enemy, to show his Omega that he’s a strong, and worthy mate. He wants to give Dazai the same justice and closure that Oda himself craves.
He tosses the gun in his hand onto the floor, before shrugging off his holster. It’s almost comical how long it takes him to disarm, from unbuttoning the tactical vest over his head to sliding knives from all the clever hiding spots he’d prepared that morning. He doesn’t bother putting his jacket back on. He feels vulnerable without any weapons or his coat, but at the same time his range of motion is much better like this. That could be an advantage.
Oda stays close to the pile of weapons, smart enough to want proof that Gide is following through on his end of the bargain.
“I want to see you,” he says, and Gide steps quietly out from behind a massive curtain.
He’s free of his usual oversized cloak, leaving him in just dark pants and a white shirt. Any holsters or gear that Oda would expect to see is gone, making Gide look smaller, less intimidating.
Oda supposes he looks the same.
He doesn’t want to be the first to attack so he stands still, waiting for Gide to make a move. Gide, unexpectedly, sniffs the air before quirking his lips into a coy smile.
“You’ve found an Omega,” he says, not a question but a statement of fact. “He’s in heat. Why aren’t you with him?” Gide pauses to sniff again, dramatically leaning forward towards Oda. “Ah, so he’s not really your Omega, is he. He doesn’t want an Alpha who’s shown himself to be so incompetent as a protector.”
Despite the nearly overwhelming urge to pounce, Oda stays still. If Gide just wants to talk he’d rather shoot him. It takes a moment for Gide’s scent to make its way to Oda, but when it does Oda can smell something like frustration. Is Gide annoyed that Oda is so hard to affect? Maybe he can use that to his advantage.
Oda slowly steps away from the pile of weapons, keeping his eyes on Gide. Gide matches his movements, so they’re effectively circling under the chandelier.
“Probably the first Alpha he’s ever met, and he doesn’t want you. I wonder why that is?” Gide moves predatorily, like a stalking panther. His eyes gleam red, like Oda’s probably do, too, although Gide’s fangs have yet to come out. His scent shifts slightly, a mixture of annoyance and anticipation disguised as the metallic tang of the air just before a thunderstorm.
“I’ve seen you together. I’m keeping tabs on you two, and you should know he wants you. You should see how pathetic he looked when you left him that day, when he tried to convince you not to come after me?” Oda doesn’t bother to stop the growl that rises in his throat even though he's acutely aware of what Gide is doing. He’ll be damned if he attacks first, but god is it hard not to when Gide has insulted his Omega, his Dazai, his Osamu , and lorded the pups he murdered over Oda. His heart pounds, waiting for Gide’s next move, but the other Alpha simply continues his methodical pacing.
“You should have listened, I’m afraid. You’re young, you think that willpower is the key to defeating the enemy, don’t you, Oda-san. You have a lot to learn, pup.” Without warning Gide snarls, an ultimatum , and his fangs tear into the flesh of his bottom lip. The tang of blood starts to mix with his scent, iron and ozone making Oda’s blood sing with the urge to attack. “You should take better care of your things,” Gide murmurs, voice suddenly soft, and that’s when he strikes.
Oda is expecting it, but Gide is fast, strong, and he gets a firm grasp on Oda’s wrist as he moves around him, pulling Oda’s arm painfully behind his back.
Gide leans in, until his warm breath ghosts over the shell of Oda’s ear and whispers, “He needs to be protected,” which makes Oda laugh. It’s a short, choked noise as Oda wrenches his arm almost out of the socket and tries to land a kick to Gide’s body, but then Gide continues.
“Just like those pups did.”
Oda has never really understood black out rage. He’s generally calm, patient, hard to throw off balance. It was somewhat of a necessity if Dazai was in your life. He’s never been so angry that every thought is replaced by the single minded urge to kill, to rip his teeth into his enemy like a wild animal and keep tearing until Gide’s body is nothing more than a pile of flesh and bones.
He understands now. His vision goes red, and he lets out the most animalistic noise that he’s ever heard himself make; a desperate howl, and Gide actually looks frightened for a heartbeat. His face quickly turns gleeful, teeth glistening threateningly.
Everything around them is a blur of color. The only thing Oda can focus on is matching Gide’s attacks, seeking his weak points.
They exchange hits; Oda lands a punch across Gide’s cheek just as the other Alpha hits him solidly in the stomach. Oda doubles over, choking on the sudden lack of air, until he sees Gide’s knee moving towards his face and he uses the momentum to push himself up and slam his head into Gide’s nose.
He feels the crack and the subsequent hush of blood, the iron smell of it as it drips from Gide’s chin to the carpet. Oda steps back, leaning forward to catch his breath, but keeping his eyes trained on Gide. He’s breathing heavily now, but he finds himself breathless as Gide reaches into one of the pockets on his utility pants and pulls out a fucking knife.
Cheating piece of shit , Oda thinks. Of course Gide wants to kill him, if he’s so thoroughly convinced that Oda is the only one who can kill him in return. He wants to be surprised, but he’s not, really. He feels stupid and afraid and viciously angry. Dazai was right, and Oda, the upstanding man he is, had actually left all of his knives when he disarmed.
Gide smirks at him, accompanied by his scent turning smug. Oda almost gags on it, both from the intensity and the sickening taste of muddy earth.
“You should have killed me the first time we fought .” Oda blinks once, before Gide attacks again. He wields his knife, and although it’s small it’s sharp. He just misses Oda’s chest as he dives forward, instead swiping over the fabric of Oda's slacks and ripping through them. In the wake of the tear a line of blood spills forth, stinging more than Oda expected it would.
“Fuck you,” he hisses. He lets Gide move first again, but he’s ready this time. Gide stays low, aiming for his stomach, but Oda meets him head on, surging forward as he wraps both hands around Gide’s wrist and uses the momentum to flip himself up over Gide’s back, pulling Gide arm with him until he hears the familiar crack of bones breaking.
Gide shouts, once, a short bark that Oda revels in. He’s still holding Gide’s arm above their heads, until he foolishly reaches up to take the knife and Gide’s arms slip from his now single-handed grasp.
He hears the wet slide of flesh over the blade before he feels it sink into his side, just under his rib cage, along with Gide’s wolfish laughter. The knife sinks down to the hilt, painfully, and Gide pulls it free. Now behind Oda, he brings the blade up to his neck and presses it in just forcefully enough that Oda feels the sting of split skin.
Gide joyfully presses Oda’s knees forward, forcing the Alpha onto his knees, before either of them say a word. Gide circles him, looking over his prey, trying to decide which cut of meat to enjoy first.
“Your little Omega is tough, I’ll give him that,” Gide says conversationally. He holds his blade above Oda’s jugular now, the cold flat of the blade making him shiver while the sharp edge threatens to sink in. “But I see why he’d want someone else, someone capable of defending themselves.” Any response Oda might have is knocked out of him by the sudden kick to the chest that sends him sprawling onto his back, and Gide’s boot quickly finds its way onto his chest. He presses down with enough pressure that Oda can’t quite catch his breath, but not enough to hurt.
“It’s a shame, Oda-san. You had so much potential. I know you’re a very talented young man.” Gide places his feet on either side of Oda's head, boxing him in before he sinks down and lands on Oda's chest. There’s enough force that Oda’s pretty sure he heard a rib crack, and his breathing starts to waver as the pain radiates through him. He grits his teeth, refusing to give Gide the satisfaction of crying out, and reaches up to push at Gide’s solid form above him.
Gide tuts, practically laughing as he grabs a handful of Oda's hair. He pushes Oda down, head hitting the floor painfully, as Gide holds him against the carpet.
“You’re lucky I only have one knife,” he says, before he pushes the tip of the blade through Oda’s wrist. It sinks between the bones, all the way through to the floor, and this time Oda does let out a strained cry.
He feels blood pooling around his wrist, and lets his eyes drift shut at Gide shifts above him. He doesn’t want to admit defeat, but he’s delirious with rage and blood loss.
Dazai is going to hate him, more than he does already, Oda thinks, and his eyes open unthinkingly as he hears the cock of a gun inches from his face.
“I’m not as honest as you, Oda-san. Guess it’s something I should admire about you.” Gide grins manically.
Oda squeezes his eyes shut again. He will make this as unsatisfying for Gide as he can. He stills, holding his breath and waiting for the gunshot, until he’s hit by the familiar feeling of Flawless jolting out of time.
He sees himself reaching up with his free hand as Gide presses the gun to his temple, and Dazai reaches towards the Alphas, half a second too late. Wait, where’s Dazai? He’s not here, is he?
Oda’s stomach flips as Gide presses the gun to his temple, just like in his vision. “I wasn’t sure you would grace us with your presence,” he says sardonically. “You took your time, I was nearly finished with your poor excuse of an Alpha.” Evidently Gide saw the same thing, but instead of carrying out Oda’s death sentence he’s… prolonging it?
Another vision crashes to the forefront of his mind. This time Gide has him by the shirt, and the gun is pressed underneath his chin. Dazai is a bit closer, but he’s still too late. Oda jerks his head to the side, and the vision changes, the gun pressed under his chin as he moves away.
Each new vision shows Dazai inching closer to the Alphas tangled on the floor, and Oda can only pray that he can hold off long enough for Dazai to do something . The next time the vision shifts Gide pushes himself up instead of reacting, and that’s when Flawless shows Oda Dazai’s crumpled form crashing to the ground. Oda tries to follow but the knife keeps him on the ground, so instead he jerks his leg back and tries to kick Gide’s leg out from under him. Gide sees it, of course, still reacting to his own ability’s visions, but this time when he turns to dodge Oda’s kick his focus is pulled from Dazai.
Dazai reaches them, finally, one hand landing firmly on Gide’s exposed wrist as he growls. Oda kicks again, this time connecting solidly with Gide’s ankle. Gide is aiming his gun towards Dazai, but he’s off balance and Dazai still has a hand around his wrist; he has the element of surprise. The pair collides above Oda, stumbling over him in a chaotic struggle for power.
Someone, Oda can’t be sure who, kicks the knife pinning his wrist, and while it hurts enough to make him whimper, he manages to wrench it free from both the floor and his arm. He pushes himself up with his good arm, his dominant arm thankfully, and watches as Dazai tears into Gide.
Already the Alpha’s face is a bloody mess, with his nose visibly crooked and spilling blood onto the floor under his head. Dazai’s hands are locked around his throat, squeezing so tightly that Oda hears the crack, the soft squish of flesh. Gide’s face is turning blue, and he’s clawing desperately at the slick surface of Dazai’s forearms. The bandages that coil around them are drenched in blood, and Gide only succeeds in unraveling them partially, the loosened pieces hanging haphazardly.
Oda looks down at his bleeding arm. The pain is starting to set in, from all of his injuries. He clenches his fist, staring at the strained muscles and wincing each time, before he hears a yelp and he’s jolted back to the ballroom.
Ironically, he’s totally unsurprised by the scene before him. Gide plants his feet firmly on the ground and thrusts his hips up, unbalancing Dazai just enough that his hands fall from Gide’s throat. Gide uses the momentum to turn them over, tossing his arm over Dazai to pin the Omega to the ground. They land heavily, the breath audibly knocked from Dazai’s chest, and Gide nearly falls as he lands on the arm that Oda dislocated.
From his vantage point several feet away Gide’s scent mixes with Dazai’s; sugar and smoke and metallic muddy earth making Oda’s thoughts fuzzy.
Gide has Dazai boxed in under him, still holding his gun in one hand while the other tangles in Dazai’s hair as leverage to expose his neck. He leans predatorily into the pale skin, nosing behind Dazai's ear and leaving a trail of blood. The Omega’s eyes are screwed shut, and his hands are clenched around Gide’s upper arms in an attempt to push him off.
Oda hears the whimper, a soft pleading noise that makes his breath catch in his throat, and he moves without thinking. He pushes himself up and growls, grabbing Gide’s attention just in time for Oda to stride towards him and deliver a kick to his jaw.
Gide groans as he hits the ground, rolling onto his back. His arms splay to either side, and for a moment he keeps his eyes closed as he tries to catch his breath.
Oda realizes he’s still holding the knife that he pulled from his wrist, so he tosses it to Dazai. Dazai is sitting up now, which is really all Oda needs to be reassured that he’s alright.
It lands on the floor between Dazai’s legs with a soft thud, but Oda doesn’t stop long enough to see if he takes it; he follows Gide to where he’s laying on the ground. His white hair is spread around his head like a halo, making Oda snort as he crouches down. He takes a fistful and watches Gide curse under his breath. “Easier to expose your opponent’s neck,” he comments.
He pulls Gide’s head up, then wraps an arm around his neck and pulls him into a standing position. Gide doesn’t fight back. He’s disoriented, with blood still dripping down his chin and dark bruises around his throat. His dislocated arm hangs limply at his side.
Oda reaches down and takes his gun. He drops it onto the floor and kicks it away. In front of them he hears Dazai moving, his scent drifting towards the Alphas as he does. He looks up to meet wild eyes. Dazai holds the knife curiously, until Oda twists Gide’s head to the side to expose his jugular. Dazai seems to understand this; he crouches low to the ground, flipping the knife so the blade extends down from his hand instead of above.
It’s beautifully silent for a moment. Oda holds his breath, and then Dazai moves.
He swings at Gide’s abdomen with a loud howl, eyes going wide at the wet squish of sliced flesh that follows. Oda leans down and sinks his fangs into Gide’s neck. The taste of copper bursting onto his tongue and he bites down harder, teeth clacking together painfully. Gide lets out a gurgle as Oda rips away the flesh. Dazai straightens up to sink the blade directly into Gide’s heart. He’s staring Gide down with a fire that makes Oda's stomach warm pleasantly.
Gide starts to go limp in his arms so Oda steps back, letting go and turning to the side so he can spit out the mouthful of skin and blood, wiping his mouth as best he can with the back of his hand.
The only sounds are Oda’s racing pulse in his ears, and the slow, dull sound of Gide’s heart aimlessly trying to pump blood. He stares at the Alpha- or rather, the body, lying in a rapidly spreading puddle of blood, until his breathing is almost back to normal.
Arms wrap around him, and Oda makes a soft noise of surprise. He turns as best he can to circle an arm around Dazai before he feels the tears streaking down his cheeks. He’s not entirely surprised; he’s cried after coming down from adrenaline after jobs before, but this feels different. This feels like knowing how close he was to losing Dazai, to Dazai losing him. It feels like the kernel of truth in Gide’s words; incompetent as a protector .
He presses his face into Dazai’s hair, suddenly overwhelmed with the wave of every emotion he’s pushed down since the death of the pups. Wet, choked sobs become hiccups, and Dazai’s own cries are muffled into Oda’s shoulder.
“I’m here, sweetheart,” he murmurs into bloody, matted hair. Dazai sobs even harder, hands fisting in Oda’s shirt.
“I thought you were dead ,” Dazai chokes out, voice strained. He’s sniffling softly, pushing up on tiptoe so he can reach the warm skin of Oda’s neck to seek out the comforting scent of Alpha, alive and safe, albeit injured. “I thought I’d lost you, Odasaku.”
Oda moves his hand up to cover the back of Dazai’s neck, holding the Omega’s neck while brushing his thumb over the slightly swollen scent gland on the side.
Dazai whines softly, leaning into the touch. He sucks gently at the warm skin of Oda’s neck, making the Alpha jump, and his scent starts to overpower the tang of blood. This close Oda doesn’t have to try to breathe it in, just lets it wash over him and soothe his instincts. He’s suddenly aware that under the blood and anxiety, Dazai smells of heat.
Omega is safe , he tries to tell himself, but even feeling Dazai’s warmth against him isn’t enough. He understands, of course, that the Alpha part of his brain won’t be satisfied until Dazai is wearing a mating mark. For a moment the image of Dazai spread out under him, flushed with pleasure and freshly bitten, flashes across his eyes, and Oda chokes back a contented rumble.
“Let’s go home,” he says instead, but he’s not expecting the distressed cry that Dazai lets out against him, curling around the Alpha almost possessively, needily.
Oda smiles despite himself, pulling his hand away and running it through the tangled strands of Dazai’s hair.
“You’ll be safe there. You’re exposed here, vulnerable and unprotected. Your instincts will-,” Oda explains, rationalizing for both himself and the whimpering Omega in his arms. He’s expecting the whine that interrupts him. Dazai is less than rational at the best of times, so it’s not surprising that during his heat he’s near delirious.
“I need you,” Dazai echoes Oda’s words of what feels like so long ago, and Oda feels his heart clench painfully in his chest.
“You need your nest, Dazai. You must be exhausted.”
Dazai shakes his head, smelling of frustration, and steps back. “I need you, Odasaku.” Tears pool on his dark lashes, and Oda is transfixed by the sight. “I need you to walk me home when I’m drunk, to tuck me into the bed even though it’s really yours and I’m imposing. I need you to cook for me when I forget to eat and bring me lunches when I’m stuck in my office. I need you with me because you’re the first person to understand me, to trust me, and I don’t know how I would live without you. I need you, because I’m in love with you and I have been for a very long time,” he says.
Oda’s lips part. He wants to respond. He wants to tell Dazai that he still needs him, that maybe he needs him now more than ever. He wants to tell him that he can never impose because Oda leaves his side of the bed empty every single night.
Instead he inhales, tasting the scent of perfectly warm butterscotch, and he reaches to cup the side of Dazai’s face, cheeks soft and warm with heat under Oda’s calloused hands.
Dazai leans in first, but Oda meets him in the middle, moving his lips in perfect tandem with the Omega. Dazai moans at the taste of blood, Gide’s blood, and Oda can’t be sure if it’s the heat or the reminder of his- his Omega’s strength that makes his cock stir.
“You smell like the bar, like Lupin,” Dazai whispers against his lips when he pulls away. “And your face is scratchy.” His thumbs rub small circles over the stubble on Oda’s cheeks, and Oda feels the grin that makes its way onto his face.
“Feels nice. I like when you touch me,” Oda says, leaning back just enough so that he can look into Dazai’s eyes. Oda notes how flushed he is, forehead tacky with sweat, before he sees how wide Dazai’s pupils are.
“We should go home.”
“Not yet,” Dazai whispers. “Not like this.”
Oda almost asks what he means, why they should wait when Dazai’s scent grows stronger with each passing second now that his instincts are telling him he’s safe. God, his scent is intoxicating and Oda’s not sure there’s many Alphas who could resist it, and he’s in no condition to fight off anyone, and-
He watches Dazai step back, leaving a few inches between them, to run delicate fingers through his hair and brush it aside to reveal his unblemished neck. The movement irritates Dazai’s swollen scent gland, and the haze in Oda’s already fuzzy head grows stronger.
“You won’t be safe, walking home like that without an Alpha to defend you,” he comments dryly.
Dazai laughs, actually laughs , and the sound sends a thrill through Oda. His heart skips a beat, or maybe that’s just the pain still radiating through him. He crouches to sit down, gesturing for Oda to follow.
It’s not the smoothest process, with Oda wincing at his injuries more than a few times, but once he’s sitting on the carpet, Dazai hooks his legs over Oda’s hips, and sighs. “You’re dense, sometimes, Odasaku.”
He reaches forward, cupping Oda’s cheek with one hand and using the other to stroke over Oda’s scent gland, which is starting to react to the heat pheromones coming from the Omega sitting in his lap. Oda shivers, and he sees the way Dazai’s eyes are gentle despite his state.
“I want you to bite me. I want you to claim me.”
It hangs in the air between, something that Oda has wanted for almost as long as he’s known the Omega, and yet when he finally manages to find words to reply, he’s surprised by what comes out of his mouth.
“Are you sure?” he asks, and even though he’s known Dazai for three years and knows that when Dazai sets his mind to something there’s no stopping him, he’s hesitant. What if it’s the heat, making him so desperate for an Alpha’s knot that he’ll take the nearest living one? What if Oda is only so receptive to the idea because he’s thinking with his cock, and having Dazai this close to him is very close to sending him into rut? What if Gide had won, and Dazai had been left alone, in heat, with the man who killed their pups?
Oda’s thoughts stop abruptly, a violent collision that pushes him back into reality. The thought of anyone else touching Dazai, with his permission or not, very nearly makes him growl, and that’s the precise moment he pushes aside every reservation he has about his Omega, his Osamu asking to be bitten, claimed, and very likely bred.
Dazai watches his face shift, from hesitant to darkly possessive to the most tender look he’s ever seen on another person.
Oda’s eyes are encircled with a thin red line, a sure sign that Dazai’s scent is pushing him into rut. As it should , Dazai thinks smugly, shifting his hips around to grind on Oda’s cock.
“Osamu,” Oda says, bringing his hands up to circle Dazai’s waist. “If you are not entirely certain that this is what you want you should get up, now.” Dazai nods, then stills, sitting very solidly in Oda’s lap.
In the space of just a few seconds, everything changes. As he shrugs off his coat, Dazai’s scent floods the air around them so suddenly that Oda has to blink several times to steady himself. After shrugging it off Dazai starts to grind again, but Oda’s hands find their way to his hips and still him with a vice grip, probably hard enough to leave bruises. Dazai makes a small noise of excitement at the thought, before he surges up to kiss Oda again. He still tastes like blood, coppery and not exactly what Oda wants from their first few sober kisses, but Dazai doesn’t seem to care.
He fights against Oda’s hands, wriggling around until Oda leans forward into the kiss and bites his bottom lip.
“Stop fidgeting,” he says. It comes out low and gravelly, and Dazai stops moving, suddenly transfixed by Oda’s face.
The scent of slick, dulled by layers of clothing, becomes apparent. Oda lets a smile work its way onto his face as he advises, “I can’t exactly pick you up and toss you around, so you’re going to have to listen. Can you do that, Omega?”
Dazai keens, a soft noise that goes straight to Oda’s cock, but he nods nonetheless, waiting for the next direction from his Alpha.
“On your knees, sweetheart,” he says, and without hesitation Dazai skitters off like a timid kitten. He reaches for his coat, which has pooled on Oda’s thighs, before laying it across the floor.
“It covers the smell of the blood,” he says softly, when he sees Oda watching him. Oda chuckles.
“You’re perfect, Osamu.” Dazai’s blush is hidden as he settles on his coat, lowering himself to sit between his feet. “Lean forward, on your elbows.”
Dazai looks at him questioningly, but even turning his head saturates the air with even more of his scent, and by now Oda has pushed himself up so he can shuffle towards Dazai. He stops at Dazai’s feet, which are adorned in a pair of casual sneakers. Normally, Dazai won’t be caught dead dressed in anything less than a three piece suit, unnecessarily expensive shoes and all, but Oda guesses he was in a rush to get out of the house. Just makes it that much easier when Oda slips off the shoes before moving to kneel between the Omega’s legs.
He places gentle hands on Dazai’s hips. God, he’s so warm, legs hooking around Oda’s thighs and making him shiver.
“Can I take these off?” Oda asks softly, leaning forward to press his chest to Dazai’s back. He feels more than sees the nod, the way Dazai shakes just slightly. He’s not sure if it’s desperation from his heat or the chill in the air, but it makes Dazai that much more sensitive as Oda unzips his pants and starts to pull them over his ass.
He’s looked at Dazai’s ass before, though he’s tried not to. Something about temptation, and Oda’s general tendency to be a gentleman.
“Holy shit,” he says audibly, because even in the deepest corners of his imagination he’s never considered that under the fitted, but not overly so slacks, would Dazai’s ass be this round, this soft, this bouncy as Oda pulls the slacks down. He palms his aching cock, twitching with want, and grabs a handful.
“You’re, fuck , you’re fucking beautiful , Osamu.” Dazai squirms under the attention, moving his hips back and forth. Oda tastes the scent of slick, and he feels his mouth start to water. Dazai’s slacks are pooled around his knees, and Oda can’t be bothered to finish taking them off. Instead, he runs his fingertips over the curve of Dazai’s clothed pussy. Slick stains the grey fabric of his panties dark, wetting Oda’s fingers.
Dazai whimpers, pushing back into the touch and sighing as Oda’s fingers trail down over his clit. “ Oda~saku , please touch me.”
Oda is only a man. He thrusts forward, pressing the bulge of his cock against Dazai. “I’m gonna make you come,” he promises. Dazai whines again, grinding back and twisting his hands in his jacket.
Dazai nods frantically, mussing his hair as it rubs against the fabric. “ Please ,” he chokes out, and it sounds more like two words than two syllables.
Oda pulls back, frowning at the loss of heat when he does. Dazai squirms, releasing more of his scent, and Oda finally breaks. He growls, territorially. This Omega is his . Dazai sighs, although it sounds almost like a moan. Oda leans down and nips at the back of Dazai’s neck, before he starts to suck a mark into the pale skin. Dazai’s voice is shaky as he cries out, arching back until he meets Oda’s solid hips again.
“I didn’t ask you to tease me,” Dazai says with a hint of annoyance, and Oda muffles his laugh in Dazai’s skin. Even in heat his Omega is bossy. He expected nothing less.
Oda sits back, hooking his fingers into the band of Dazai’s underwear as he does. Dazai moves his hips, trying to be helpful, until Oda uses one hand to push the garment down and the other to steady his hips. “Stay still.”
Dazai whines, but he doesn’t move. He has one arm curved out in front of him, the other clenched in the fabric of his jacket next to his face, and he’s looking back at Oda with glassy eyes.
“Please, Alpha,” Dazai says. “I need your knot.” Oda sucks in a sharp breath, rewarded with more of Dazai’s tantalizing scent. He yanks Dazai’s panties back until they fall onto his slacks, and immediately the air becomes saturated with the smell of alluringly sweet toffee.
“Fuck, sweetheart, you smell so fucking good,” Oda says. He covers Dazai again, planting his hands on either side of his shoulders, and watches the way Dazai shudders. If he didn’t know better he’d think it was the curses rolling off his tongue getting Dazai wet.
Oda reaches back and undoes his own zipper. His cock is still trapped behind a layer of fabric, but he still feels the throb of a knot forming at the base.
Dazai squirms as he watches, sticking his tongue out to lick his lips. His eyes flick up to meet Oda’s, but Oda shakes his head.
“Not right now, sweetheart. Let me take care of you.” Dazai nods, pushing himself into a deeper arch. Oda leans back, grabbing Dazai’s hip again, and runs his thumb between Dazai’s wet lips. Slick collects on the digit, dripping off and falling onto Dazai’s coat, and Oda chuckles softly. “Gonna need a new coat after this.”
Mewling, Dazai pushes back against Oda’s hand. Oda takes the hint, replacing his thumb with his index finger and sliding lightly into Dazai’s soaked hole.
They moan together; Dazai from the promise of finally being filled, and Oda from the promise of sliding his cock into the wet, inviting heat of his Omega’s cunt. Dazai leans into the touch, sinking further onto Oda’s finger, and cries out again.
“Big- Bigger than I’m used to,” he says. His forehead is pressed against his coat, hips canting back and forth in search of stimulation. Oda pulls out until the tip of his finger rests between Dazai’s slick lips, and this time when he pushes in it’s with two thick, calloused fingers. Dazai clenches around them, tighter but not enough to hurt, with a sigh. “‘S good.”
Oda moves slower than necessary, pressing down in search of the sensitive spot that will make Dazai melt. He finds it quickly, and Dazai does in fact melt, hips twitching and voice cracking as Oda presses firmly against the bundle of nerves.
“Fuck,” Dazai cries brokenly. “‘Saku, I just want you to f-fuck me, please.” He moves back against Oda’s fingers, and Oda’s other hand, still wrapped around Dazai’s jutting hip bone, squeezes.
Oda shakes his head, inhaling the sweet scent of slick. “I promised I would make you come, sweetheart. If you want my cock, my knot, you need to come for me, baby.” As much as he wants to give in, making Dazai fall apart on his fingers makes him harder than anything he’s ever experienced.
Oda reaches down with his thumb, wet with slick, and circles around Dazai’s clit. He presses the pad of his thumb firmly against the area, and Dazai reacts immediately, jerking away from the stimulation before rocking back into it. He’s still whining, high-pitched and sweet to Oda’s ears, but if he’s trying to say something there’s no way of knowing what.
Oda leans as far forward as he can without disrupting the rhythm of his fingers, using his free arm to hold himself up over Dazai’s smaller frame. His knees are tucked just inside Dazai’s, holding the Omega’s legs open.
Dazai is close, he can tell. He’s mewling softly, mouth hanging open, and a tiny string of drool connects his teeth to his bottom lip . His walls clench around Oda’s fingers, wet with slick that squelches out around Oda’s fingers and drips onto the coat below them. Oda starts to move faster, and under him Dazai starts to tremble.
“‘’m so close,” Dazai wails. His body is coiled, tensed like a spring, about to fall over the edge, and he whimpers. “Please, Alpha.”
Oda presses a soft kiss to the skin between Dazai’s shoulder blades, running the very tip of his tongue over the area and tasting salt. His fangs scrape against it lightly, making Dazai shiver, before he stretches his jaw open and bites down.
It’s this that pushes Dazai into orgasm, his cries becoming a long string of broken, hiccuping breaths as his cunt tightens almost painfully around Oda’s fingers. Oda keeps moving steadily, quickly, until Dazai reaches out and curls a shaking hand around his arm.
“Too much,” he slurs, fingernails digging into Oda’s arm.
Oda pulls his bloodied fangs from Dazai’s back, before pulling his soaked fingers free from Dazai’s dripping cunt. “You’re a mess, sweetheart.”
It’s true; Dazai’s cheeks have gone red with exertion, chest heaving, and his eyes are wet under half-open lids. His chest is pressed against the floor, the only thing keeping his hips up in the air, his knees spread apart by Oda’s. Dazai just nods, or tries to. Mostly his eyes fall shut and he makes a content noise of agreement. He offers a thumbs up, hand still flat against his coat.
“I can bring you home now, Osamu.” Oda switches his hands, so his slick-coated fingers aren’t threaded through Dazai’s hair. “I could make something to eat.” He thinks the offer of home cooked food will tempt the Omega, instinctively if nothing else, but Dazai’s eyes crack open and he glares up at Oda.
“Not until you’ve knotted me.” Oda groans audibly, hips moving of their accord until he’s rutting against the velvet curve of Dazai’s thighs.
“You have no idea what you do to me, sweetheart.” He lets himself move, pleasure jolting through him until he feels his knot start to swell. “Are you sure, Osamu?”
Dazai is still glaring at him, but he moves forward before turning over onto his back, still lying under Oda. He reaches up, stretching like a sleepy cat might, before grabbing onto Oda’s shirt and using it as leverage to pull him down. “I’ve wanted you since I was 15, Odasaku. I’m pretty sure.” His coltish legs hook around Oda’s hips, and Oda nearly sobs with how hard it makes him.
Oda pushes himself up, hands on either side of Dazai’s shoulders, so he can undo the buttons of his shirt. It takes about a minute, but when he reaches the last one and goes to shrug it off Dazai perks up. “Keep it?” His head tilts like an inquisitive puppy, eyes tender and fond. Oda grins and leaves the shirt on.
He’s kneeling now, looking down at his Omega. It’s a bit unnerving, like being on display in a glass box, but Dazai hasn’t given him a reason to be afraid so he pushes the feeling aside. Surely he’ll get used to this.
His briefs slide down easily, letting his cock spring free. His knot is already visible at the base, and the head is leaking a ridiculous amount of precum. A few drops land on Dazai’s stomach, making him laugh.
“You’re sure I can’t try to suck it?” Dazai asks as Ods lifts his leg to slip off his briefs. “I like challenges.” Oda snorts.
He takes his hand and runs his palm over the head, collecting pre-cum. It makes the slide as he strokes his length mostly smooth, until Dazai pushes himself up into a sitting position, legs still loosely hooked around Oda.
“I wanna do it!” he says, reaching for his own hole. Oda opens his mouth to ask, before Dazai reaches for his cock, and Oda nearly collapses onto the Omega from how good it feels. His hands are so much softer than Oda’s, although still calloused, and he squeezes the knot curiously.
“‘S gonna be hard to fit,” Dazai says nonchalantly.
“Shit, don’t say things like that or I won’t get the chance to knot you,” Oda murmurs. He’s leaning forward, pressing his nose into Dazai’s shoulder and scent gland. His fangs move with the words, threatening to sink into the skin while leaving superficial scratches that make Dazai squirm.
After a few moments of stroking, Dazai’s scent shifts to something sweeter, almost impatient. He tilts his head up to look at Oda, revealing the column of his neck. “‘m ready, Alpha,” he says before leaning back onto the floor.
Oda is still for a moment, trying to catch his breath but ultimately finding himself surrounded even further by Dazai’s intoxicating scent. He can feel himself slipping into rut, and as much as he's looking forward to spending the next week like this, he’d rather get them home first.
Dazai expresses his unhappiness with the lack of movement by wriggling closer until Oda’s cockhead slips between his wet, open lips, and they both let out quiet moans.
“Patience, sweetheart.” Oda lets his hips move lazily, teasing Dazai’s hole with small thrusts only to pull away before his cock can slide any further in. It makes the Omega whine, hands curling in the fabric of his coat, and thrash around in front of Oda.
“ Alpha ,” Dazai tries again, and this time Oda’s patience wears thin. Dazai’s hands twist in his shirt to tug him down into a kiss at the same moment that Oda reaches for the Omega’s hips and he sinks into the wet heat of Dazai’s cunt.
Dazai goes limp under him, voice cracking as he relaxes into the sensation of being filled. Despite this, he’s tight around Oda’s cock, making the Alpha’s hips jerk as he tries not to bury himself inside all at once. He sighs, letting his forehead fall onto Dazai’s shoulder, and he lets the moment turn into a minute as they both pant softly.
Oda moves first, although it’s only because Dazai plays dirty. The Omega clenches around him, and Oda doesn’t realize what’s happened until he’s thrusting forward and feels the resistance of his knot against Dazai’s hole.
Dazai tilts his hips up, chasing the promise of a knot, until Oda pulls out and presses his sharp hips back down to the floor. He pushes himself up onto his knees, before using his good arm to hover over Dazai.
“D’you want me to fuck you?” Oda asks. He feels half-delirious from pain and rut and the almost tangible promise of claiming Dazai, but he waits until Dazai nods up at him before he digs his fingers into the plush of Dazai’s thighs, pushing the Omega’s long legs into his chest, and begins to thoroughly fuck him into the floor.
Oda’s hips move with purpose, pushing forward until he’s watching his knot stretch Dazai’s pink hole even further, then pulling back. He manages to maneuver Dazai until he’s bent into an angle that has Oda’s cock pressing almost unendingly against his sweet spot, and he drinks in the choked little noises that fall mindlessly from Dazai’s lips.
Dazai’s fingers curl over Oda’s where they’re digging into the meat of his thighs, and Oda feels the precipice of orgasm rapidly approaching. He reaches between them to find Dazai’s clit again, the slick leaking from the Omega’s hole more than sufficient to keep the friction from being painful, and Dazai twitches when Oda finds it. The short words he could manage a moment ago are gone, replaced with soft, breathy Ah! ’s that entice Oda into fucking him even faster.
Despite himself Oda brushes his other hand over the curve of Dazai’s cheek as he murmurs, “ Gonna bite you .” Dazai whines alluringly, turning his head and revealing the column of his neck. His hands, now untangled from Oda’s, curl into the Alpha’s hair instead and pull him towards Dazai’s neck.
Oda moves his stroking away from Dazai’s clit to his hole, stroking over the heated skin as he pushes past the resistance and his knot settles inside. Dazai’s fingers clench painfully, at the same time as his pussy, and between the moans Oda thinks he hears a pitiful, “- coming -” that quickly turns back into a noise of pleasure.
Dazai’s legs fall until they’re wrapped around Oda’s waist, squeezing possessively. Although his range of motion is limited Oda rocks back and forth, until the rhythmic pulsing around his cock drags him over the edge.
“ Fuck ,” he cries out, as his knot swells just a bit more and cum floods Dazai’s cunt.
In the daze he seeks out Dazai’s scent gland, at the juncture of his neck and shoulder, and presses his fangs in. The now-familiar taste of blood bursts onto his tongue as Dazai jerks before sighing heavily, contentedly, and going limp again.
Oda gently pulls his teeth from the gland and observes his own work with pleasure. Possessive joy curls in his stomach, and the Alpha part of his brain feels more under control than it has in a very long time. Curling his hands around Dazai’s hips, Oda laps at the small amount of blood seeping from the bite. It will heal soon enough without his help but Dazai looks exquisite under him, and Oda isn’t entirely sure how long his knot is going to last.
Not as long as normal, he’s fairly confident, since they’re in the open and away from home, but still long enough to increase the chances of conception.
Oh. Oh.
Thinking about getting Dazai pregnant had been one thing when they were friends, with enough distance between them to deny anything if need be.
It could be his more base urges solidifying as his rut approaches; it could be the mark that he’d put on Dazai’s neck, a sign that the Omega was his in every sense of the word. The thought reignites the heat in the pit of Oda’s stomach, and he nuzzles into his Omega’s neck as he feels another wave of cum spill.
“Alpha,” Dazai’s voice is soft in his ear. Oda perks up, propping his head up on his palm over his bent elbow. His other hand strokes through the sweaty hair at the nape of Dazai’s neck, just above his ears, at the peak of his forehead.
“We’ll both need a shower,” Oda comments evenly.
“Alpha, let me mark you too. Please?” Oda nods, curling his fingers under Dazai’s chin.
“I would have nothing else, Osamu. Once we’re home and settled into a nest you can have me however you want me, sweetheart.” Dazai turns as best he can, nuzzling into Oda’s exposed chest. “It shouldn’t be too much longer.”
Dazai’s smile is warm and sleepy. Oda tucks a few loose strands of hair behind his ear. “Don’t get too comfortable, sweetheart,” he says softly.
Despite this Dazai melts further into the warmth of their embrace, running his heel over the back of Oda’s exposed calves. The motion makes Oda shiver, although he tries his best not to move or pull at the knot keeping him locked inside of Dazai.
It can’t be more than a few minutes before his knot starts to go down, and the only reason that Oda knows Dazai is awake is the discontent whine that he lets out as Oda starts to pull out. He moves gently, not sure if he’ll be able to actually pull out yet, but then Dazai forces his eyes open and blinks until he looks more conscious, and he wriggles back on his coat.
Oda shivers as his cock is pulled free, the cold air making him go soft almost immediately. Dazai looks wrecked; his eyes are watery, hair tangled with sweat and blood. His cheeks are flushed, and there’s cum dripping from his pink cunt. Various bruises litter his torso, both from Gide and Oda. The reminder burns hot in Oda’s chest, so he ducks his head down to suck a mark into the pale skin just under Dazai’s collarbone.
Under him the Omega squirms and protests halfheartedly. “Didn’t realize you’d be this possessive, ‘Saku.” Dazai’s smile is nearly blinding when Oda looks up at him, but he nods stoically.
“You’re mine, Osamu.” Oda leans forward and meets Dazai for a deep kiss, moving perfectly in sync until they’re both breathless.
“Let’s go home, ‘Saku.” Oda hums as he sits back and starts to redress himself. Dazai inviting him to go home, to share his heat, might be the best thing he’s ever heard.
