Chapter Text
“And suddenly you know: It's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.” ― Meister Eckhart
Meredith picks up the note from Liam and reads it outloud to Cormac.
“Dad & Meredith,
You have both known so much loss. You deserve happiness. You are moving forward in a new relationship, and that can’t be easy, especially while raising all of us. You are both amazing parents, amazing role models, showing us how to love, how to move forward, how to open our hearts to a larger family. Enjoy your time without us kids.
With love, Liam.”
Meredith says to Cormac, as she pulls out a bottle of champagne and a box of assorted chocolate, “Wow! Look, he must have had help with this.”
Cormac sees a sticky note on the side of the bottle, and laughing he says, “Miranda and Ben helped with that.”
“He has been so wonderful with this, very mature,” Meredith says, pulling Cormac closer, wrapping him in her arms.
Cormac’s thoughts drift back not only to a few of the conversations he’s had with Liam but to one of his last nights with Abigail.
Abby: And it's okay for you to fall in love again. You have my permission.
Cormac: I don't want that.
Abby: Which is why you need to hear me say that it is okay. You don't need to beat yourself up or feel guilty. You deserve to be happy. Bright side, you won't have to work for it. Sexy widower, surgeon, single dad. You'll be batting them away.
Meredith gives Cormac time to just hold her, sensing he was struggling with his thoughts and feelings. She is willing to take this slow, follow his lead and let him tackle these firsts as fast or slow as he’s able.
“Tá mo chroí istigh ionat,” he says while holding her close. Eventually he looks up, saying “How about we have some dinner?”
“Sure, it smells wonderful,” she says as they head into the kitchen.
