Chapter Text

It was a week after the grocery market incident, when Thomas almost tripped over a laundry basket standing infront of Sophie’s room. The past days were relatively quiet. No arguments, no misunderstandings, and no big mistakes, but the Virginian also was not able to repay his roommates kindness so far.
Seeing the clean laundry seemingly forgotten in the basket sparked an idea though. Without sight, putting awayclothes where they belonged to was probably difficult.
Maybe she was waiting for one of her friends to help her put it away.

Well, that was his chance to finally be helpful for once, so Thomas decided to pick up the basket and enter Sophie’s room without thinking about it twice. Maybe, if he spared the idea a second thought, he would have realized how inappropriate barging into someone’s room without permission was. Especially when it’s a girl’s room and even more so because he was about to open her wardrobe and put away her laundry.
All that without even asking for permission and if it was ok.
But even though Thomas was a smart man, he could also be very stupid at times.

Half an hour later, Hercules received a call he did not expect from a very frantic Sophie.
“Herc, I need your help! It is a fashion emergency! Can you come over?”
“Uh yeah, of course. I will be there in five.”
When Hercules arrived at his friend’s dorm and entered her room a few minutes later he was greeted with the sight of Sophie in the most mismatched outfit he has seen her since the laundry mix-up incident.

“What are you wearing, Soph?”
“Well, I don’t know! Because someone put away my freshly washed clothes while I was in the shower and nothing is in order anymore!” She pointed at her closet with a frustrated expression and it took the male student only a moment to realize that she was right. After all, he was the one who organized Sophie’s clothes and closet together with her, to make it easier for her to find the right items and create outfits that did not seem like a blind person put them together.

The only question now was who would do such a thing? Though after thinking about it for only a few seconds, the answer was already quite clear.
“Thomas...”
“I don’t even have the strength to question his actions anymore. I have no clue what’s going on in his head.”
His friend’s sigh was loud and resigned in Hercules’ ears.

“We can talk to him later. First, we gotta reorganize this mess, come on.”
Together they put everything in the closet in order again. I was not even that big of a chaos, but still enough forsomeone without seeing eyes to get confused.

When Thomas stepped into the dorm room, he already had a bad feeling which was only amplified the spotted Hercules sitting on the couch in the living room. The look in the other’s eyes was disapproving just like the one he received from Lafayette in the grocery store. It was also clear that the bulky man was waiting for him.
“Why?”
“I don’t know what you mean, but whatever it is...” Herc simply pointed with his thumb in the direction of Sophie’s room.
“I don’t even know where to start, since there is so much wrong going on here with the things you do... Do you really dislike her that much? Are you trying to mock her? You want her to move out? You are aware that she was here before you, aren’t you? So honestly, if this continues you are the one who will get kicked out.”
The fashion design student stayed calm during his monologue, but Thomas knew if he said anything wrong, Hercules was ready to throw him out of the window anytime.

“It’s not like that, I swear! This time, I was just trying to help! I truly feel sorry about how I acted, and I wanted to do something nice. I imagined it would be difficult for her to do chores on her own.” The Virginian hoped he sounded sincere because that’s really how he felt. He spoke nothing but the truth. However, Hercules still didn’t seem satisfied with his answer.

“Well, you didn’t. What you did instead was destroying a perfectly practiced routine and thus make something simple difficult.” Thomas gulped, but was interrupted before he could even thing about an answer.
“Have you ever actually tried talking to her about those things?! About what you can do to help and what is unnecessary? You know she is not that helpless blind girl you make her ought to be. She can do most things on her own even though it might have taken her longer to learn how to.
So instead of just assuming things, ask her in what kind of situations she needs help and otherwise just let her do her thing without butting in too much! Got that?!”

The right now utterly intimidating man crossed both his arms in front of his chest, levelling Thomas with a death-glare while waiting for his answer.
“Herc... that really isn’t necessary.” Thomas was surprised by Sophie’s voice suddenly joining in. The girl was leaning against the doorframe of her room, staring in the general direction of her friend.”

“No Soph, someone has to do this. Be glad it’s not Alex instead. Jefferson wouldn’t be alive anymore if Alexander knew about any of the shit he pulled.” Sophie’s sigh was too loud in the Virginian’s ear. What’s this with everyone using Hamilton as some kind of threat against him? Yeah, they had their differences and often destroyed each other verbally, but he wouldn’t actually get physical... right?
Well, if he was honest Jefferson was also glad it was only Hercules who gave him the talk. In the end, facing Hamilton in this matter probably would have send the curly-haired man to his deathbed indeed.

“No, Mulligan is right. I was an asshole and I made too many mistakes. I understand if you want me to move out, but I promise I will try to do better. You are way more capable than me regarding this living on your own matter, even though it should be way harder for you and I think I had... have problems accepting that.”
The frown on Sophie’s face did not disappear right away, but it did soften a bit after Thomas’ speech.

“Will you finally talk with me then... or well listen to me instead of just talking me over?” One deep breath by the Virginian and a smile to unseeing eyes followed.
“Yes! I really am sorry and I promise I will listen.”

Hercules honestly was glad about that outcome, though he hoped that those words weren’t just empty promises in the end.
“Well, I’ll leave you to it. Gotta meet Laf before our next lecture.” After exchanging goodbyes and before exiting the room, the last thing Herc saw was Sophie and Thomas sitting down at the dining table together.

Seems like it was time tom start over.
