Chapter Text
Epilogue
One year later …
He stood to the side, watching the group sitting on a blanket in the grass. They were smiling… happy. Jimin sat cross legged at one corner, laughing down at Yoongi, who was lying down... of course .
In the middle of the blanket was a small basket of food, and everyone had either a beer or soda to drink. The sun was shining brightly through the trees, and although the air was cool, it wasn't cold. It really was pretty here on the hill… When the cherry trees blossomed on the path below he could see them clearly, though they never blossomed this time of year.
This year was infinitely better than last year. He looked over at the girl sitting on the blanket. Her smile was life to the entire group. Even Yoongi smiled at her, and Jimin… he could tell Jimin was fighting off the crush he had on her. He laughed a little, standing by the tree at the end of the path, watching the group.
He watched as the girl ran her fingers through V’s hair. His head was in her lap, and he stretched out on the blanket much like Yoongi… But the best thing of all, V’s smile was back. It was that perfect rectangular goofy grin that he remembered so well. He'd been so scared for his friend, so worried that what had happened would haunt him forever. When he'd actually seen him last year, he'd been so scared. If he had been able to cry, he would have. If he’d been able to touch him, he would have tried to comfort him. He was surprised V had known the girl though. She was sweet… She’d visited him the year before that… the first year… and she'd eased his soul. To see her with V was a balm to his spirit, and to see her with the group was pure joy.
But he was most worried about V. And looking at him now, he knew that his final prayer had actually been answered. She would take care of him. If the ring on her finger was any indication, she'd take care of him for the rest of their lives. He wished he could be there, could be a part of the here and now… but he could only watch.
They were all wearing black, but there was no sadness… only melancholy… and he wouldn't have it any other way. They sat like that for a couple hours at least, telling stories about him , and smiling. His friends were happy… finally.
HoSeok felt a slight tug at his center and knew it was time to leave. He never got to stay long, which saddened him… He missed them so much. He wished he could tell them… all of them, how much they meant to him. How much his life had been blessed just by their presence. Even hers… in his last moments, he'd been brave for her and for V. As V looked up at her, the light in his eyes was more than enough for HoSeok.
He didn't need to come back anymore. He didn't need to watch over them anymore. He smiled as he turned his face to the blue sky for the last time.
They would be just fine.
