Chapter Text
Tim spends the rest of his shift trying not to go crazy and think about Lucy and what Lucy just did and what Lucy could possibly be doing right now and what he will eventually do with Lucy.
For most of the day things have been so quiet that Tim’s been bored out of his skull, but now that all he can hear are Lucy’s breathy moans in his ears he finds himself silently begging the universe to send him something to occupy his tormented mind. For once in his life, the universe seems to be listening, and he’s actually really grateful when things at the desk get inexplicably busy the last two hours of his shift. At about 4pm, a heavily pregnant woman stumbles into the lobby and promptly gives birth right there on the linoleum floor. It’s not the first baby Tim has helped deliver, but it’s definitely the most jarringly unexpected delivery he’s ever seen and it turns out to be an extremely effective way to help him focus on something other than his extremely inappropriate thoughts.
From that point on, things just keep rolling.
He helps a high school kid fill out paperwork about his stolen bike.
He arrests a serial arsonist on their Most Wanted list, who shows up like an idiot to bail his buddy out of jail.
He makes copies of a MISSING DOG poster for a sad little girl and her frazzled mother.
He has to call the bomb squad when an old man shows up with what turns out to be a box of 100-year-old dynamite he found in his basement.
All in all, he’s kept pretty busy. And from the moment when the woman gave birth to the end of his shift, he barely has time to think about Lucy at all. But soon enough he finds himself driving back to her apartment, realizing he’s going to actually see her in just a few minutes, and his thoughts spiral again.
Lucy…touching herself.
Lucy…moaning.
Lucy… naked .
Lucy.
Lucy.
LUCY.
When Tim finally gets to her apartment and goes through the door, the first thing his eyes hone in on is Lucy peeking up over the couch and watching him enter with wide eyes. She looks guilty, or like she's afraid she’s about to get in trouble. He takes a deep breath as he drinks in the sight of her beautiful face. And every single mental image he spent hours avoiding comes rushing back in. Before he can process another thought, he's slamming the door closed, striding across the kitchen, rounding the couch, and pulling her up into his arms in record time, lowering his lips to hers for a filthy kiss.
Lucy lets out a small gasp of surprise, but after a moment of frozen shock she’s responding to him, reaching her arms up to wrap around his neck and licking into his mouth.
“Fuck,” he mutters pulling back just enough to catch his breath. “ All day , Lucy. You had me going insane thinking about you all day. ”
“I really am sorry,” she whispers, pushing him down onto the couch and then climbing into his lap. She noses along his throat, her hot tongue periodically sneaking out to lick at his neck as she breathes him in. “I don’t know what came over me…I was just so desperate to hear you. To feel close to you.”
Her whispered apology and confession has him groaning, reaching down to grasp her chin and pull her lips back to his. He finds he’s feeling pretty desperate himself.
They continue to make out on the couch for a few minutes, and it’s nothing they haven’t done before until Lucy grabs his hand from where it’s settled at her waist and pulls at it. She tugs it insistently until she’s got it under the hem of her shirt, and then she’s shoving it up her shirt, toward her heaving chest. Tim pulls away, feeling dazed and so desperately turned on.
“Wait wait,” he gasps, resisting her tugging and keeping his hand firmly settled on her naked stomach. “I need to take you out on a date first, remember?”
Lucy whines and continues to pull at his wrist as she sucks his bottom lip into her mouth. “We will go on a date, Tim,” she insists. “But that doesn’t mean you can’t touch me . I want your hands on me. It’s all I can think about.”
Tim groans and feels what little self-control he still possesses fizzle away to nothing.
Because honestly? It’s all he can think about too.
Resigning himself to the fact that he’ll never truly be able to deny her anything, he goes back in to kiss Lucy’s perfect lips and lets his hand trail up her stomach until he’s gently cupping her breast over the thin sports bra she has on. The noise she makes as soon as he makes contact should be illegal . She pants against his mouth, her kiss losing all finesse as Tim begins to knead her breast before rubbing his thumb over where he can feel her nipple through the fabric, peaked with arousal.
Lucy lets out a whine and fists her hands in Tim’s hair, pulling at the short strands as he switches his hand to her other breast and begins to kiss down her neck. Frustrated when his lips encounter the cotton of her t-shirt, Tim lets go of her for a moment and moves his hands to the hem of her shirt. He looks up at her for approval and, at her nod, begins to pull the shirt up her torso…
And the apartment door bangs open.
Tim drops Lucy’s shirt back into place just as Jackson stumbles inside the apartment with a muttered curse.
“Oh my God,” he yelps when he sees them intertwined on the couch, his eyes widening. “I’m sorry!”
Tim hastily pulls his hand from under her shirt and Lucy reaches up to run her fingers through her hair, trying to smooth it back into place. Which is pretty pointless since Jackson obviously knows exactly what they were doing.
“Ummm…I’m just gonna…go to bed,” Jackson stutters awkwardly, before he starts limping toward his room.
Lucy frowns.
“Wait!” she calls, jumping up from the couch and going over to where he’s stopped in the middle of the kitchen. “What happened? Why are you limping? Did you get hurt on patrol?”
Jackson shakes his head and winces. “No...boring day,” he says. “But I think my soulmate broke his foot. I had to pull over on the way home when it happened.”
“Ugh, that sucks,” Lucy says sympathetically. “Hopefully he gets it taken care of tonight and it starts feeling better for you?”
“Yeah,” Jackson replies, taking a deep breath through his nose and grimacing. “Hopefully he goes to the hospital and they give him the good drugs. Because the good drugs sound like heaven right now.”
Lucy hums and reaches out to give Jackson a comforting hug. “You’ll be okay,” she says. “It’ll feel better in the morning.”
“I know,” Jackson agrees, still shifting uncomfortably and frowning. “I just hate that I don’t know who he is. I hate that I’m not there to help him or comfort him or…like I don’t even know how it happened. I wonder what he did, you know?”
Tim watches them stand in the kitchen of their apartment, apparently lost in thought about the possibilities of who Jackson’s soulmate could be. He gets the feeling that this is a common occurrence. He can clearly picture them getting wine drunk and analyzing his various pains to find clues to who he could be sharing the soul bond with. He wonders if they ever did the same for Lucy back when they were in the Academy. After a few quiet moments, Lucy’s face lights up with an idea.
“Maybe he’s like…a professional athlete!” she says excitedly.
“Or he’s just hella clumsy,” Jackson mutters. “I feel like he walks into tables and walls all the time. At least, that’s what it feels like. He’s probably a total spaz.”
Lucy laughs. “Maybe,” she says. “But I think that’s cute. Who doesn’t love an endearingly clumsy man? And honestly? Klutz, professional athlete, or anything in between…it won’t really matter.” She looks over to where Tim is still sitting on the couch watching them. As soon as she catches his eye, she winks at him. “I promise you’re going to love him…no matter what.”
Jackson sighs and gives Lucy another hug. “I know I will,” he says softly. “I’m just sick of waiting, you know?”
Lucy nods and hums, but doesn’t actually reply. Because she does know, but gone are the days of the Academy when they could dream together about who their soulmates were…she knows now. And as happy as she is to be with Tim she can’t help but feel sad for Jackson. She wants him to have what she has. She wants him to never have to wonder about his soulmate again. She wants him to know .
“Well, I’m going to bed,” Jackson says. “I’m gonna need some sleep if I have to patrol tomorrow with a kind of broken foot.” He waves a hand at Tim, kisses Lucy on the cheek, and walks over to his room. Just as he’s about to close the door he turns to them and says, “Also, please don’t have sex on the couch.”
“Jackson!” Lucy yelps, but he’s already slamming his door with a laugh, leaving a furiously blushing Lucy to turn to Tim with a guilty look.
“Maybe we should…move this into the bedroom?” she asks sheepishly, and though her voice is embarrassed and timid, Tim can’t help but think that she also sounds sexy as hell. But maybe that’s just because he always thinks she sounds sexy. And now that he’s put his hands on her body he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to think about Lucy without thinking about sex ever again.
Her question was apparently rhetorical, because she doesn’t wait for him to answer and instead just heads into her room, throwing a look over her shoulder at him that has his brain shutting down and all his blood rushing south.
Like he’s a moth and she’s a flame, he gets up from the couch…and follows her.
